INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Dear Race Fan,
We greatly regret to inform you that the 104th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge will take place on Aug. 23 without fans at the venue. This also includes all practice, qualifying and Miller Lite Carb Day activities. As a passionate IMS fan myself, I want you to know that this very difficult decision was made following careful consideration and extensive consultation with state and city leadership.
I know how much many of you have been looking forward to attending this year's race in person, and please know that all of us at the Speedway appreciate your patience and support throughout the last few months. The experiences at IMS and on Indy 500 Race Day are like none other, from the opening cannon to the checkered flag. But more than anything, it is the passion of our fans that has elevated the Indy 500 to its one-of-a-kind status at the pinnacle of sport.
If you are a current Indy 500 customer, please know that you will receive an IMS account credit for your tickets to all August events and all related items (badges/credentials, parking, camping, etc.), and you will retain your seniority and your original May seating location for 2021. You will receive a follow-up email with details later this week on next steps regarding your 2021 Indy 500 renewal.
As dedicated as we were to running the Indy 500 with 25% attendance at our large outdoor facility, even with meaningful and careful precautions implemented by the city and state, the COVID-19 trends in Marion County and Indiana have worsened. Since our June 26 announcement, the number of cases in Marion County has tripled while the positivity rate has doubled. We said from the beginning of the pandemic we would put the health and safety of our community first, and while hosting spectators at a limited capacity with our robust plan in place was appropriate in late June, it is no longer the right path forward based on the current environment.
The Penske Corporation has made a long-term investment to be the steward of our legendary facility, and we were very excited to showcase the many investments and enhancements we have made over the last eight months. As much as Roger and all of us associated with the "500" wanted to race with fans this year, we ultimately reached this conclusion in partnership with the state of Indiana and city of Indianapolis.
Our commitment to the Speedway is unwavering, and we will continue to invest in the Racing Capital of the World. While it won't be the same as walking through the gates at IMS and watching from your seats, we encourage you to watch this year's race on NBC and we look forward to welcoming all of you back to "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" on Sunday, May 30, 2021.
Thank you again for your patience and support, and we hope you and your loved ones continue to stay safe and healthy this summer.
Sincerely,
J. Douglas Boles, IMS President

It is disappointing to run the event without all of you here, but I know our drivers are determined and ready to put on a world-class show for everyone watching at home.
Especially now, during these difficult times, gathering with friends and loved ones for cherished traditions means so much. Hundreds of thousands of fans return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway every year, savoring the final note of "Back Home Again in Indiana" and cheering for some of the world's greatest drivers. The roar of the crowd goes with the roar of the engines. I wanted you here.
For Indianapolis and Indiana, in general, the Indy 500 means so much. This is especially true for our Race Day staff and local businesses in Indianapolis, who count on the Month of May to boost their income and take care of their families.
But given the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Marion County, running the race without fans was the right decision.
My family and I purchased the Speedway and INDYCAR for the long-term. As much as I wanted to open our gates, even at 25 percent capacity, protecting our fans and "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" for the long term is more important.
When fans return in 2021, you will see many of the improvements we've made, including more than 30 new LED video boards, 5G connectivity and refreshed concession stands and restrooms. The winning driver and car are now lifted atop Victory Podium, allowing more fans to see the iconic post-race celebration. More improvements, all focused on our fans, are on the way.
When I was 14 years old, my father took me to the Speedway to watch the race. It was 1951, and Lee Wallard won it. I was able to put on a helmet and sit in a race car. I'll never forget that experience. That special day shaped the rest of my life and made me who I am. It's why I care so much about the Speedway and INDYCAR racing. It's why the fan experience will always be my top priority.
Thank you for understanding, and I look forward to seeing you next May.
And drivers - start your engines.

INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Dear Race Fan,
I am reaching out to share an update on NASCAR's Pennzoil 150 and Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400 Powered by Big Machine Records, as well as INDYCAR''s GMR Grand Prix, scheduled for July 4th weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
After extensive consultation with local and state health officials, we have made the difficult decision to run these events without fans in the stands due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of this decision, we have also canceled the Driven2SaveLives BC39 USAC Midget race and the FGL Fest concert.
While the State of Indiana plans to enter Stage 5 of its "Back on Track Indiana" plan on July 4, opening sporting events to fans with social distancing, Marion County - home to IMS - moved to Stage 3 ten days after the rest of the state, and we cannot be confident that it will be ready to move to Stage 5 by the holiday weekend. This approach follows national trends for larger communities, and we must follow those guidelines and the leadership and judgement of our city and state officials during this challenging time.
Customers with tickets to the impacted events will receive an email from the IMS ticket office with instructions for claiming tickets to our 2021 events, an account credit good for all future events at IMS, or a refund.
You - our fans - are what make this place so special, and we will greatly miss welcoming you next month for this historic NASCAR-INDYCAR double-header weekend. We are, however, excited that all three races will be broadcast on NBC and hope you will tune in throughout the holiday weekend.
You'll also notice that this year's edition of our marquee NASCAR race has a new name -the Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400 Powered by Big Machine Records. This new name is a reflection of our title sponsor's commitment to support front-line workers and make hand sanitizer available to the public in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
We look forward to welcoming fans to the track in August for the 104th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge and the other events related to the race beginning with practice on Wednesday, August 12, and qualifying the weekend of August 15 & 16. And on Oct. 3, the NTT INDYCAR Series will return again to IMS for the INDYCAR Harvest GP. Thanks to the many investments and improvements underway at IMS, the facility has never looked better, and we can't wait to share it with you later this year.
Thank you again for your patience and support, and we hope you and your loved ones continue to stay safe and healthy this summer.
Sincerely,
J. Douglas Boles, IMS President
