Just 4 weeks remain in our 2020 fundraising campaign to fund 700 Johnny Mac Scholars.

Many of you met our distinguished guest speaker Wesley Bauguess at our 2019 Johnny Mac events.

Wesley''s husband, U.S. Army Major Baugess was deployed to Afghanistan in 2007 with the "All American" 82nd Airborne Division. Larry and his commander attended a peace meeting in a tribal region of Pakistan on May 14, 2007. Once the meeting successfully concluded, the participants-leaders from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the U.S.-shook hands, exchanged gifts, and posed for pictures. Larry''s soldiers loaded in vehicles to depart, with Larry waiting until his troops were all settled. Then Larry began to climb over the tailgate to join his soldiers in their vehicle.

Wesley recounts, "A member of the Pakistani Frontier Guard was standing behind Larry's pickup truck. His job was to pull security for the U.S and Afghan leadership while they were participating in the peace talks. But instead of protecting our men, he raised his rifle and opened fire at close range. Larry stood between the shooter and his men. On his feet, he shielded his men and took the brunt of the assault. Larry gave his life that day. Several of his men were wounded, but they lived to tell the story."

Bauguess children Ryann and Ellie were just 6 and 4 years old when their Daddy-and the love of Wesley's life-was taken from them.

Today, Ryann is a college junior and Ellie has begun her freshman year of college. Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund helps make their college dreams a reality. As Wesley herself says, "These kids are worth the investment. They represent the future of our country. They stand for the values that make our nation great. They are going to be something special."

There are thousands of children like Ryann and Ellie whose parent made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Our mission at Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund is to honor that sacrifice by providing scholarships to military children like Ryann and Ellie.
