Enjoy your summer staycation - Viking style! Here''s how...
Family value
If you fancy time-travelling with your family this summer, don't forget that your JORVIK admission ticket includes FREE entry for 12 months, so you can visit as many times as you like! For a full day's adventure, our Triple Ticket offers discounted entry to three fantastic attractions - JORVIK, Barley Hall and DIG: An Archaeological Adventure.
Even more time for Vikings every day
Did you know, JORVIK is open for an extra four hours every day, opening at the earlier time of 9am and remaining open until 8pm in the evening throughout August? The streets of Viking-Age York are much quieter in the evenings, so if you want to get away from it all, book a night out with the Vikings.
We''re good to go
We want all of our visitors to fully enjoy their visit without any concerns about safety or social distancing. We go above and beyond the ''Good to Go'' requirements from Visit England, giving you added peace of mind for a worry-free visit.
Support us
The coronavirus crisis is causing unpredictable and significant concerns for JORVIK Viking Centre, our sister attractions and York Archaeological Trust as a whole. We have reacted to this challenge by developing a brand-new virtual engagement programme that will deliver similar on-line experiences to school classes, which we want to launch during the autumn term.
To help us create this valuable new offer for school children across the UK who cannot now visit our attractions, we need to purchase the technical equipment and learning resources to deliver it. We would be hugely grateful for your support helping us raise ?120,000 to cover the costs of developing and running this exciting and beneficial new project.
JORVIK Viking Centre is owned by York Archaeological Trust, a registered Charity in England and Wales (No. 509060) and Scotland (SCO42846).

Can you support us through this difficult time? | March 2020
Can you help us as we re-open our attractions?
Support us to strengthen our long term future and build better lives through heritage
As for many organisations, the coronavirus crisis is causing unpredictable and significant concerns for JORVIK Viking Centre and our sister attractions in York.
Our staff and visitors' safety is our top priority, and we''re grateful to those of you who answered our survey about what you need when we re-open. However, making our attractions safe has incurred unexpected costs, and combined with the severe ticket income loss, our future plans are under threat.
Owned and managed by York Archaeological Trust, we are part of a self-sustaining educational charity which generates income through the support of visitors, donors, volunteers and Friends. We would be hugely grateful for your support helping us raise ?30,000 to cover our unexpected costs, so we can more confidently continue to offer world-class visitor experiences and a range of charitable activities that benefit our community.

Social distancing and safety | 06.07.20
Your safety and comfort is our top priority
When we re-open on 11th July, you can still experience everything JORVIK Viking Centre has to offer whilst enjoying a safe visit with hygiene and safety policies that have been approved ''Good to Go'' by Visit England.
Before you visit
We are restricting the number of people in JORVIK to make sure that each group can remain socially distanced from the next group.
To help us manage this, we will be extending our opening hours and visitors must pre-book tickets.
When you arrive
This summer is the best time to visit JORVIK - while there is no queue! Visitors should arrive on time for their timeslot, to reduce the amount of time they are waiting outside.
Inside JORVIK
Our resident Vikings will be leading the way on our safety and social distancing!
As well as a one-way flow around the centre, visitors can find regular hand-gel points and be reassured that the centre is thoroughly cleaned - from its reconstructed Viking houses to display cases of rare and beautiful Viking artefacts.
Throughout JORVIK, our friendly staff will be ready to help. You might even spot a Viking in PPE!

The Original Viking Encounter re-opens today!
The world-famous JORVIK Viking Centre re-opens its doors today! Enjoy a trip out with the family experiencing the sights, sounds and smells of 10th-century York.
Watch our new video about visiting JORVIK
We''ve worked hard on new safety procedures for the JORVIK experience. Our new video shows you how you can visit JORVIK Viking Centre safely - and, as usual, our friendly Vikings will be on hand to ask any questions you might have.
Our Vikings will be leading the way with safety and social distancing!
Vikings had a rather different idea of PPE... shields, spears and swords rather than face masks and gloves! You might see some of our Vikings in modern PPE when you visit, as part of our comprehensive safety policies.
Viking hygiene
Did you know that Vikings were actually very hygienic, taking great care over cleaning and personal grooming? Look out for items found in the Coppergate dig such as combs, tweezers and bone pins when you visit!
Other JORVIK Group attractions
York''s hidden gem, Barley Hall, and DIG: An Archaeological Adventure have been awarded the ''Good to Go'' mark and will also be re-opening today! Pack more history into your trip to York with our new Triple Ticket.

News from our archaeology teams
The York Archaeological Trust (YAT) Fieldwork team are hard at work recording archaeological deposits at the Guildhall complex in York.
To date they have unearthed a Roman cobbled surface buried over 1.5m below modern street level, along with an abundance of pottery, tiles and a hairpin from the same period, and a medieval silver coin.
Meanwhile, the Conservation team have recently completed the delicate conservation process of a rare Iron-Age chariot burial, found on a Persimmon Homes development on the edge of Pocklington, East Yorkshire.
You can keep up to date with the important work YAT's Fieldwork and Conservation teams do by following them on social media.
