IOS SDK UPDATES & FIXES

Updates

Added side-loaded caption support for offline playback.
Exposed nextupOffsetPercentage property which allows the next up overlay to be displayed at a specified percent of the way through the video, rather than at a fixed number of seconds from the beginning or end of the video. When the nextupOffsetPercentage is set, it overrides nextupOffset.
[Breaking change] Annotated Objective-C headers to be Swift friendly. This may require code changes for previous Swift implementations. Xcode will highlight and enable the developer to removed unneeded optionals.
[Breaking change] Reintroduced the required fetchContentIdentifierForRequest:forEncryption:withCompletion: method in the JWDrmDataSource protocol. This method is required to play DRM encrypted streams.

Fixes

Fixed an issue where the onControlBarVisible callback was not firing when setting player.controls:true
Fixed warning flag by the main thread checker

With an eye toward improving the developer experience, we are updating our Documentation. On September 3, we launched beta-developer.jwplayer.com. Our new documentation focuses on three key areas: usability, discoverability, and feedback.

Single user experience for our primary APIs that includes cURL, Node, Ruby, JavaScript, and Python samples

Modern search powered by Algolia
Improved page descriptions

Feedback

Feedback form located on every article, enabling you to provide us with suggestions to continue to improve our documentation

We will be transitioning fully to this new style of documentation by the end of the month. Try it out today and give us your feedback through the feedback form at the bottom of our articles. Tell us what has improved and what still needs work.

As mentioned last month, we are updating our developer documentation. This month, we are transitioning to this new documentation style. Check it out.

iOS SDK

[3.6.3] Fixed an issue where 608 captions can not be disabled in a playlist item containing side-loaded captions.

[3.6.3] Fixed an issue where duplicate captions appear for playlist items that contain both side-loaded and in-stream 608 captions.

[3.6.2] Removed debug assertions from production build in ReachabilityCallback function to avoid uncaught exception.

[8.11.0] Added internationalization support for all fields in the keyboard shortcuts menu released in JW8.8.0, as well as automated translations for all 24 supported languages.

[8.11.0] Added support for five of the VAST 4.1 specification's tracking macros: [DEVICEUA], [PAGEURL], [REGULATIONS], [GDPRCONSENT], [ADSERVINGID]. By using these VAST tracking macros, a publisher can choose to gather more information about the ad play to the ad server, ranging from GDPR consent to the page URL.

Client Library Updates

Because client libraries reduce the amount of code you need to write and simplify authorization and authentication, we have updated our PHP and Python libraries and added a new Node.js library. We plan to periodically add new libraries. Java is next on the list! Check out our current client libraries and plugins.

[8.12.1] Added a new ad rule in the VAST plugin, deferAds, which does not play ads whenever a player is playing in an inactive tab, and resumes on the last unplayed ad when the tab becomes active again.
