Hi Mia;
I'm reaching out regarding Jon's API strategy. We are helping companies like Apple, VMware and Expedia accelerate their transition to microservices and manage the resulting complexities. You can think of Kong as a super-fast API gateway and management platform designed specifically for microservices and containers.
If you haven't heard of us that's alright, but you have heard of our investors: Jeff Bezos, Andreessen Horowitz, and Eric Schmidt to name a few.
Would love to share more about what type of value I believe we can bring to the future of your API strategy next week. Is this something you'd be interested in chatting about?
Thanks, Kyle Downie

We're slicing and dicing systems into ever-shrinking pieces like microservices or serverless functions that should work reactively and are event-driven. End-to-end processes now often require multiple components to be properly integrated -- but of course, without coupling them too tightly. In an e-commerce company, for example, a "customer order" might involve different services for payments, inventory, shipping and more. We see many companies slicing up their core business processes in the pursuit of modern architectures and running into unanticipated challenges along the way. Spoiler alert: there's no magic fix.
This Destination: Automation talk will foster your understanding of how workflows can be implemented and monitored in modern architectures. You will learn about choreography and orchestration. You will see concrete examples and live coding using Java, Spring Boot and Camunda Cloud (based on the open source project Zeebe.io and Kubernetes).

Supporting Legacy Web Services With Kong
Let's admit it - web services (SOAP) are here to stay for a few more years, and maybe for a long time in some places where there is no business incentive to rebuild them. Towards Continuous Auditing: How DevOps Is Reshaping Traditional Audit Practices
Dan Petit | Principal DevOps Architect | Hilton
As DevOps takes root at organizations, the day-to-day practices in IT change in ways that are foreign to many auditors. This talk discusses how and why these new practices can potentially improve compliance and accelerate audit practices.
Data Integrity at Scale: Make Your Audit Your Database
Dayel Ostraco | Solutions Architect | Equifax
While microservices can solve the issues around scalability and maintainability, they often do so by making the software responsible for data auditing. What happens when multiple services leverage the same data, make changes to data and (dare we say) DELETE data? Deploying proof-based journal databases like AWS Quantum Ledger in conjunction with modern scalable databases ensures that every change to your data meets financial industry auditing standards from day one. Leveraging distributed ledger consensus and proof-based journaling is now as easy as writing SQL code.
Making Microservices a Behavior, Not a Buzzword
Melissa van der Hecht | Field Product Manager | Kong Inc.
Defining "microservices" is one thing...successfully adopting them is another. It's easy to fall into the trap of focusing only on delivering microservices rather than setting up the right principles to ensure ongoing success. In this session, we''ll look at how and why a microservice strategy needs to encompass not just the technology but the stakeholders and overall outcomes too, and how this becomes even more critical in an increasingly decentralized world.

Building a tech stack in today's world means constantly making decisions about whether to automate or abstract challenges, but the goals are always the same - simplicity, security and speed. As organizations embrace myriad technologies, such as Kubernetes, to abstract away DevOps challenges, they also increase the need for automation to help them manage increasingly complex processes across platforms. In this session, Kong's VP of Product Reza Shafii will explore how organizations can use automation to reduce friction in adopting new platforms, eliminate repetitive, error-prone tasks and increase the overall effectiveness of their development teams.
Everything I Need To Know About AIOps I Learned From My Rice Cooker Austin Parker | Principal Developer Advocate, Lightstep.
It seems you can't throw a rock these days without it glancing off a shiny, new application of 'artificial intelligence' or 'machine learning.' Indeed, the promise of 'AIOps' proposes a transformational effect on our lives as operators and developers of complex systems. What, though, is AIOps? This is a question that many people are happy to answer, but I decided to take a deeper look. What I found may shock you, and it's that I learned more about AIOps by cooking rice than I did from hours of research.
Continuous Deployment for Staging and Production Environments Kendra Curtis | Director of Engineering, CockroachCloud.
Ceclia La | Member of Technical Staff, Cockroach Labs.
In this talk, Kendra and Celia will talk about the challenges and benefits of continuously deploying their staging environments and how they applied that to their production environment during the development of CockroachCloud. They will discuss their use of:
- Iterative development including PR structure and feature decomposition
- Pushing all PR to staging environment
- Feature Flags to make the customer magic happen

Don't miss what over 4,000 attendees saw live...
Oct 13, 2020
Last week at our third Kong Summit, we announced the future of service connectivity - Kong Konnect!
Kong Konnect is the only full stack connectivity platform that is designed from the ground up for the cloud native era, delivered as a service. It accelerates the journey to microservices, secures and governs APIs and services, and it allows developers to rapidly design, publish and consume APIs and services.
Learn More About Kong Konnect
We also announced an exciting new research project we've been kicking around at Kong: Kong Embedded!
If you've used the Kong Gateway before or heard us talk about it, one of the things we're very proud of is that Kong Gateway uses a very small resource footprint. It's a small download in size, is blazingly fast on even constrained hardware, and uses very little memory.
Having this low resource usage requirement has another advantage that we're now exploring: the ability to run directly on low-power consumer and edge-deployed devices like those in industrial IoT and enterprise edge device settings...continue reading

Containers and orchestrators - like Kubernetes - promise greater resource efficiency and simplified deployments. Developers provide code in the form of a container, define their required resources for operation, and the orchestrator does the rest. Sounds easy, but if your workloads are dynamic in nature, how can you ensure sufficient resources to meet the performance and availability requirements of your customers?
In this Destination: Automation talk, Ara Pulido, technical evangelist at Datadog, will demonstrate how to autoscale your application workloads on Kubernetes. You will learn frameworks for how to identify your key work and resource metrics, as well as how to use them to drive horizontal and vertical pod autoscaling so that you can maximize efficiency, while ensuring service reliability.

Supporting Legacy Web Services With Kong
Let's admit it - web services (SOAP) are here to stay for a few more years, and maybe for a long time in some places where there is no business incentive to rebuild them. However, with a decline in new SOAP web services and most applications moving to cloud native architectures, a common query is "how can we support legacy services while moving to microservices?"
The good news is Kong's versatility of handling multi-protocol traffic and extensibility can help address this question...continue reading.

Over the past few years, Kubernetes has become the de-facto standard for container orchestration. However, despite its broad-scale adoption, Kubernetes ingress solutions have to date failed to provide a comprehensive solution for end-to-end API management and traffic control for all applications deployed on a cluster. Similarly, dedicated Kubernetes ingress solutions lack the comprehensive security capabilities and support needed within enterprise organizations.

WFHaaS: Working From Home as a Service
Melissa van der Hecht | Field Product Manager | Kong Inc.
We can't apply old processes to new environments. Much like having to work from home has forced a change in how we work together as teams, successfully managing services in increasingly decentralized architectures demands a different way of thinking. In this session, we'll look at the surprising similarities between ourselves and our services as we adapt to new routines in distributed locations.

How to Achieve Zero-Trust Security With Service Mesh Marco Palladino | CTO & Co-Founder, Kong Inc.
This talk will discuss new microservice security requirements, architectural choices for how to satisfy them, and modern technologies for rolling them out. We describe taking a policy-as-code approach where authorization policies are decoupled from the underlying microservices yet employ a shared-fate evaluation model so that policies are created and enforced consistently, meet high-availability and performance demands, and enable relatively rapid security reviews and hot-patching. Specifically, we will describe how to achieve zero trust security by design by demoing how to enforce policies through the Kuma service mesh by employing Open Policy Agent.
