Are you ready for new attenders this Christmas? We're sharing 7 tips for welcoming guests in your church this holiday season.

This Christmas, someone might set foot in your church for the first time�and you can create an environment that helps your guests relax and experience the Gospel in a new way!

Below are seven of our top tips for creating a warm and welcoming environment this season.

Decorate for the season. Christmas is a time of celebration and tradition, so give your attenders a sense of joy and merriment as they walk through the doors. Christmas trees, lights, wreaths, red ribbon, and oversized snowflakes are all easy and relatively inexpensive ways to create a festive and friendly atmosphere. For more on our heart behind Christmas decorations, watch this short video.
Show them what to expect. Use social media to your advantage and draw people in by posting pictures of your church all decked out for the holidays. Knowing what they are walking in to makes people feel more comfortable, and social media is a great way to help attenders get a glimpse of what they can expect when attending your service.
Create a photo op area. It might sound simple, but creating a festive photo backdrop in your lobby is a fun and easy way to provide something special for guests. As an opportunity to gather around and snap a few shots, photo booth stations not only allow families to create memories at church, they can also help your church get social media traction when those photos are shared online. Create a Christmas hashtag for your services and follow these easy steps for creating a holiday photo op area.
Have plenty of volunteers. Welcoming smiles and warm handshakes are the first part of a new visitor�s experience, so have plenty of volunteers available to help new guests find a place to sit, get a cup of coffee, or check kids into your children�s ministry. Offer Christmas-themed goodies. Who doesn�t love some Christmas cookies and apple cider? If it�s within budget, handing out holiday-themed treats in the lobby can accomplish more than you might think. Of course it adds to the festive feeling, but it can also put new guests at ease. Having something to do with their hands�like sipping hot cocoa or munching gingerbread�helps your guests relax just a bit. Take it one step further and encourage guests to take their refreshments in to the auditorium during the message.
Play Christmas music. As people trickle in to the auditorium, have your worship band play some fun, upbeat Christmas songs that everyone knows and loves. Familiar and delightful, these songs will help guests relax, get in the holiday spirit, and enjoy their time at your service�and might even challenge their notion of what church can be. Embrace a bit of tradition. Even those who are unchurched still appreciate and long for tradition, so including something familiar�like a Christmas carol�can evoke a sense of connection, comfort, and belonging. The Carols Christmas album is a great example of integrating modern and traditional. At some of our campuses, we end the service but turning the lights low, lighting candles (or glow sticks,) and sing an acapella version of "Silent Night" together.

Help the young adults in your church grow spiritually, personally, and professionally with Leadership XP.

Grow your young adults.

Life.Church offers an amazing paid internship program, LeadershipXP (LXP), for young adults looking to grow spiritually, personally, and professionally. And, it�s not just for Life.Church attenders�it�s also open to young adults from other churches who want to explore working in ministry.

LXP interns come from different churches and have diverse backgrounds; some are married, others are single, but they share one thing in common�a passion for seeing people know Jesus.

We�d like to invite your church to be part of LXP by encouraging your passionate, talented young adults to apply. As interns, they'll be developed for three to six months and then come home equipped to make an even bigger impact in your church.

Interns are placed at either our Central Support offices or a local campus, and can focus on anything from campus operations, youth, or worship to software development, business operations, or content development�there are even roles on our Open Network team! See a full list of intern roles here.

Each intern is paired with a coach devoted to pouring into them and building them up. Learning opportunities include book discussions, personal assessments, and Life.Church staff events. Plus, they�ll make personal connections and build peer group relations with other interns while developing a foundation to serve and contribute to your ministry team.

Here�s what Dominique shared about her LXP experience:

�I have always been hungry for development in my passion, and the leaders I have been so lucky to be under have never disappointed. They have always pushed me past what I thought were my limits and showed me I had so much more in me. They have showed me that I truly can do all things through Christ, and I wouldn�t have experienced all this without this internship. I am so excited to dive in deeper into my calling.�

If you know someone who would be a good fit for this internship, send them this email and encourage them to apply. Interns have already been placed for the spring semester; the deadline to apply for summer is February 16, 2020. Start dates follow the typical semester schedule: January for spring, May for summer, and August for fall.

This is a challenging season for leaders. In his opening talk at the Global Leadership Summit, Pastor Craig Groeschel discussed leading through the dip.

Do we open? Do we stay online only? There are strong opinions on each side, so how do you know what''s right for your church?

Is it time to reopen?

Do we stay online only?

Do we open our kids ministry?

How can we help people feel safe?

Will people come?

There are strong opinions all around, and as a pastor, you're feeling the pressure to meet the spiritual needs of your church and greater community.

Because rushing in to minister to people in their time of need is what the Church does.

As you make the decision to reopen, here are three things to think about:

1. You''re not the church you were. As much as we all look forward to "going back to normal," things will look different when you reopen your church. As leaders, let''s make sure we set the right expectations for ourselves and those we lead. Attendance may not be the same for some time. Work with your team to redefine the "win" for your worship experiences. As you plan to reopen, learn how Life.Church worked to create a safe, touchless experience.

2. Your attenders have new habits. Just because the doors to your church are open doesn''t mean people will return. Depending on the situation in your country, families have had weeks to months of a new habit: not attending church. So, remain relational as you reopen. Follow up with your attenders, check in on them personally, and invite people to your church. At Life.Church, Pastor Craig Groeschel encouraged our staff to think like church planters. We''re not just reopening our churches; we''re building them back up.

3. You have more people to reach. As you reopen, you''re likely to welcome people who already know and love Jesus. But, what about the people who aren''t ready to attend in-person? And the people who are far from Christ that you can only reach online? Church online remains one the most effective ways to reach people no matter where they are.

Reopening Kids Ministry

Many Life.Church locations have been open for a few weeks now, but LifeKids just opened this weekend at our Oklahoma and Texas locations.
