What are your plans for the year, large or small? You may remember me, British Jennie, from a couple of newsletters in December. I write all of the Make Art That Sells newsletters and social media posts and various other bits and bobs behind the scenes, but aside from that I also have three smallish children, two cats and a dog. In 2020, my goals, as for the previous decade, will mainly revolve around getting enough sleep.
It absolutely blows my mind that ten years ago I would go to bed with the full expectation of being able to sleep uninterrupted for eight whole hours, night after night, without someone needing a drink of water or a trip to the bathroom or to have monsters flushed out from under the bed or sudden reassurance about something that happened a year and a half ago or attention for a sock that feels funny.
And then, just when there was a reasonable chance that all three children would sleep through the night or even – whisper it – beyond 7 am, we acquired two cats, who will never let us sleep beyond 7 am because instead they need to mew and bat our faces until we wake up and feed them. And when we developed the ability to sleep through that, we added a puppy into the mix, who will bounce onto the bed at 6 am and physically fight with the cats while treading our soft pink vulnerable bodies underfoot, and, trust me, there’s no sleeping through that.
So, my goals for 2020 are:
- Learn to go to bed at a reasonable time instead of bingewatching boxsets in a desperate attempt to have an evening
- Stop thinking “Hmm, we’re actually getting okay at this, time to level up” and adding another child or pet to the mix
- Work out where all the sticks in my house are coming from
- Visit Lilla in Boston again so we can come up with some more amazing content for the year ahead
And I’m also really looking forward to Lilla’s Mystery Box: Exploring Creative Living with Lilla Rogers, which I think is going to be completely rejuvenating and inspiring.
How about you, Make Art That Sells fans, followers and students? Perhaps this year you’re planning on taking part in a drawing challenge, or setting up an Instagram account to show off your beautiful art, or exploring a new market for your art; perhaps this is the year you’ll snag that incredible children’s book illustration gig (or another children’s book illustration gig – or a whole series!) or launch your own home décor collection or land representation with an agent.
To help you plan your amazing year, we’re re-sharing two of our fabulous FREE downloadable worksheets: the Dream Armadillo and the Dream Snail. Complete them both or simply choose whichever one appeals to you the most. Simply download and fill out the worksheet, then stick it somewhere where you can see it throughout the year – and don’t forget to share on social media and tag us in so Lilla can see what you do!
