Today, the President of the United States incited a violent insurrection. Thousands of white supremacists and fascists violently stormed the U.S. Capitol and attacked our government in order to stop the peaceful transfer of power and certification of the 2020 General Election results. There is no room for hedging. We must be absolutely clear: this was an attempted coup, instigated by the President and certain Members of Congress, and is an act of sedition and possibly treason. Americans will indeed remember this day-with great shame-forever.
Because of this gross abuse of power and attack carried out against our nation, March for Science calls for Donald J. Trump, the President of the United States of America, to be removed from office as soon as possible.
For four years, President Trump has stoked anger, division, and hatred. Not only has he failed to condemn white nationalism and fascism, he has praised and promoted it. Today, the President remains a present danger to our global and national security.
Our movement advocates for the use of science to advance social justice and the common good. But without democracy, science is unable to serve the people. The peaceful transfer of power matters and must be protected.
The President can be removed from office either by impeachment or through the activation of the 25th Amendment. We urge Congress, Vice President Pence, and the Cabinet to remove the President as soon as possible-- before he causes further harm to our nation, our democracy and the people of the United States of America.
