When I worked & lived in Oaxaca, Valentines Day was a fun holiday I looked forward to. In Mexico, the cultural origin is a Catholic saint's day to celebrate love, much like it is in the U.S.  But it is also known as "Dia de Amistad" or friendship day. So, everyone of every age and relationship receives flowers, candies and red & pink trinkets.

Little kids come to school dressed in valentine costumes and are paraded around the parks, while teenagers promenade with their friends in the zocalo & tree lined parks where boys buy dozens of carnations to hand to the girls as they walk past them... I've received my share of flowers from nameless sweethearts on the street!

Oilcloth has the unique quality of being dense, durable and bacteria resistent because it''s made from layer upon layer of PVC.  It stands up to rough ware, hot plates and being constantly sprayed with disinfectant. Who knew that oilcloth would keep us afloat during the crisis - but all kinds of new customers are needing it to cover tables for "TO GO & curbside pickup orders".  So many places have new rules where surfaces need to be wiped down between customers - Farmer''s Market tables to churches, salons, restaurants & pre-schools.

Start designing your ofrenda for Day of the Dead now!

Every year I look forward to Cinco de Mayo!  Any excuse to gather at Rosa''s Cantina''s patio with friends to drink strong Cadillac margaritas, enjoy the music and smell those sizzling plates of short rib fajitas & ahi tacos. They have the thinnest chips & spicy, roasted salsa. Yum!  But due to "La Corona" this year, Rosa''s is closed. 

Advice:  Pin up some papel picado banners on your patio - then relax & fantasize that you are on vacation on a beautiful beach in Mexico.  Grill some asada, make margaritas & rock in your hammock!  There''s no excuse not to have a joyous time with your cell mates -

We''re trying to do all we can to help our Mexican artists during the Lockdown in Mexico. Our banners are hand cut by the best papel artist in Mexico - just as they were made in 1750. This year, Se?or Reynoso is 87 years old!  He loves to do custom work for weddings, events & logos.

Organize your life in these crazy times 
I must confess - I have expropriated way too many oilcloth totes for personal use!  

I still have one filled with boxes of Christmas cards, glitter pens and snowmen stamps that never got finished in December.  One chili pepper bag is filled with odd, exotic canned goods that are headed to the Food Bank once I decide if anyone will be as thrilled with Tunisian capers, smoked octapus & kimchi as I was when I bought them? My magenta tote is my "half-ass earthquake bag" in the van but it looks more like a snack bag with Tacuba''s toys & treats.  I have a blue floral bag collecting 8 pounds of AAA paper maps & guide books that I might need in case the Russians disable our GPS satellites. I''m ready!  

The last tote is my, "if I ever have time to relax bag" ready with my last 3 months of Bon App?tit, Smithsonian & Sonoma magazines; a book on the Asanti tribes of West Africa and a coupon for Bed, Bath and Beyond in case they ever reopen.  

Point is, these totes are bright, happy and remind me that eventually I''ll be on the GO again... Invaluable - they organize, sanitize and revitalize!

Didn''t expect this but I received many calls this week from people asking about oilcloth and it''s ability to be sanitized.  Here''s the facts:

Oilcloth is very dense and bacteria resistant (fire resistant too) because it''s made from layers of PVC - not fabric that needs to be laundered.  Restaurants like it because it can be easily cleaned with soapy water or a 409-type spray between guests. It is a good choice to cover porous wood tables for example.  Schools, pre-K and after school programs like it because it''s quick & easy to sanitize for the kids or between classes.  We also sell quite a bit to churches, temples, recreational facilities and convalescent homes.

While it''s colorful, economical and durable, no claims are made by us or the manufacturer. We are trying to expedite the shipping of all orders and getting another shipment in this week to fill the demand. We did receive more oilcloth totes Friday and will get those posted ASAP.  We hope to receive more of the sewn tablecloths in 2 weeks.  We do offer free cutting on purchase of full rolls. Please contact me if you have any questions. Angela
