Michele Varian Sign Up Information

Home goods designer Michele Varian opened her eponymous store quietly in Brooklyn last month, after shuttering her popular Soho shop. The Atlantic Avenue store sells Varian’s own line of lighting, furniture, wallpaper and pillows, as well as artisanal products from about 100 other home designers and 70 jewelers.

“A lot of people come here very specifically for Michele Varian products,” Varian said. “But, also, we’re known as a place that has a lot of one-of-a-kind pieces a lot of emerging designers, and I really, really aspire to find pieces that you’re not going to find anywhere else.” Read the full article here.

Evolved Resolve is a virtual exhibition curated by Female Design Council founder Lora Appleton for the September 2020 LA Design Festival. We are thrilled to partner with Incollect, who is providing the platform to share this extraordinary group of works. Together, we make it clear that the womxn design community pauses for no one.

This stellar collection of works consists of furniture, art, sculpture, lighting, jewelry, and ceramics, with a focus on strong and unique forms. Womxn-made and designed, masterful in construction, at times delicate and subversive, these pieces reflect the spirit, and dedication of our makers.  

In response to the critical lockdown due to Covid-19, many of our FDC members closed down their New York City and Los Angeles studios, design and art practices, showrooms, and shops. They found ways to create in makeshift corners, yards, and garages, finding unconventional means of continuing to foster their passion and craft during this most stressful time. Appleton brings these incredible designers and artists together for a collective celebration of work, power and perseverance.

This exceptional show is evidence that our community remains as creative as ever. Through bold expressions of craft, skillful construction, and bursts of color and texture, Evolved Resolve is humanity and resilience made tangible.

What is Michele Varian best known for? People come to the shop for lighting, wallpaper and pillows, which are my own designs - and I've expanded into furniture in the last couple of years, as well.  In addition to that, people are also drawn to the shop's one-of-a kind ceramics and jewelry selections.  

What are the "must-have" products in Michele Varian?  Pillows! These were one of the first designs I began producing. They have a characteristic exterior tie. Then there's the lighting. It's made on-site at the shop, and ranges from smaller table lamps to really expansive mobile chandeliers, and everything in between. And of course there are our cast iron pigeons, which have become a sort of iconic item that people recognize as being from the store.
