ABOUT THE CLASS

Join us from the comfort of your home for another fun meet your maker!  For this event, Master Distiller, Chris Morris, from Woodford Reserve will lead us in a tasting of Woodford Double Oaked and providing insights to Woodford Reserve and his work on developing Double Oaked.  Following the lively discourse MWL Assistant General Manager Lani Sickman will discuss builiding your own Old Fashioned using a variety of bitters provided by Woodford! 

The mastermind behind Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, Rye, and Master's Collection, Chris knows the keys to making good whiskey are time and patience, but having a sense of good craftsmanship is also a talent that goes a long way.

Chris began his career in bourbon in 1976 as a trainee in Brown-Forman's central lab. In 1997, he found himself as an understudy to Lincoln Henderson, Woodford Reserve's Inaugural Master Distiller, who in 2003 Chris succeeded. In the years that followed, Chris was responsible for creating the world's first bourbon finished in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Barrels. He's also credited with developing the world's first maple barrel; a difficult feat made easier when you command your own cooperage.

Tickets include set of barrel aged bitters, syrup and gifts provided by Woodford Reserve.

Happy holidays from Multnomah Whiskey Library! Thank you for your patience - we know that the wait can be long for an MWL membership. We are emailing you now to announce that we are planning a transition to a members club, and we''ve outlined below some ways to skip ahead and join now.

We have a bright future planned for our members, including new benefits to be unrolled in the coming months such as day time member access to The Green Room as a reading lounge and work space, a member board, and expanded benefits like free valet parking, more courtesy reservations, networking opportunities, and private event perks.

With nearly 2,000 bottles gracing our shelves, we are consistently ranked one of the best bars in the world. Our collection is diverse, with an emphasis on whisk(e)y, but also offering a comprehensive selection of just about everything else.

All in all, membership at MWL is about capitalizing on special opportunities - finding your favorite seat by the fire, discovering a rare or vintage pour, and sharing the Library with your friends, colleagues and clients. For the curious minded, we host private educations, distiller-led dinners, and exclusive tastings. Every month, members can expand their knowledge with a free house pour, access to a break-even bottle, and exercise their palettes with a blind tasting. You could try a new spirit every day for the next five years, and still not get to the end of the list!

Prices are marked just above wholesale price, with the proceeds going to our MWL employee food support program and the Oregon Food Bank. In total, Library and Member donations to the Food Bank in the past three weeks have topped $103,000! Their team is working around the clock to get food where it is needed most at this critical time. Kyle has put together another list of special wines from our cellar in addition to selections from local wineries and vermouth for your home bar. Some of these wines are available in extremely limited quantities, so it''s first come, first serve!

Chef Jason will be carving up another rack of our famous 3lb bone-in ribeyes as well as filet mignon steaks from St. Helen's ranch in Washington. He''s also sourced wagyu cuts from Snake River farms in Idaho. Zabuton means little pillow in Japanese and refers to the tender yet toothsome quality of the cooked steak. Add some tricolor potatoes and asparagus to your order to complete your meal.

If you are making a night of it, our friends at Water Avenue have you covered for the morning - they''re roasting MWL blend coffee just for us.

Due to the fantastic response to our last offer, we''ve created an event page where you can order online. Click here to see this week''s selections and place your order. All orders must be made by Monday, April 13th. Kyle will be at the Library on Thursday, April 16th, and Friday, April 17th between 10am - 4pm for curbside pickup. Just pull up to the MWL sign in front of The Green Room entrance, and Kyle will bring your order out to your car.

Dear Members and Guests

As we continue to learn more about the arrival of COVID-19 to Oregon and the Pacific Northwest, we assure you that we are closely following the evolving situation. Following the rapid changes of the past few days, we want to re-affirm our commitment to keeping our Members, guests and employees safe, as well as supporting our staff and local economy.

The Multnomah Whiskey Library will be remaining open Wednesdays - Sundays as long as it remains in the best interest of our community and our guests. Beginning next week, we will be temporarily closing on Mondays and Tuesdays. We will be spending this time completing exciting renovations in The Green Room and our kitchen spaces, as well as executing an additional weekly deep cleaning and sanitizing (read more about current cleaning protocols below.)

If you have an existing reservation that will be affected by these changes, we will be reaching out to you shortly to reschedule. We welcome all comments and suggestions as our Members and guests are at the heart of everything that we do at MWL. Please email any concerns or questions to membership@mwlpdx.com.

We understand that dining out at MWL, as at any establishment, requires a high level of trust on the part of our guests, and we pledge to preserve that trust by providing our Members and guests with a safe space to relax and dine.

As well as following the protocols recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), and Oregon Health Authority (OHA), our commitments include:

. Closely monitoring news and updates from national and international public health agencies

. Thorough messaging and follow-up with all staff on best practices of self-care and hand washing, monitoring team members for signs of illness, and staying at home when sick

. Following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control on increased sanitation/ disinfection measures for frequently touched surfaces, opening and closing deep cleans, and sanitizing seating areas between guests

MWL BUTCHER CUTS, MEAL KITS & HOUSE MADE SYRUPS

Hello members and friends! Our butcher cuts and wine pickups are back with even more options on the MWL at Home shop page. Pick up a bone-in ribeye, or make it a meal complete with side dishes ready to pop in the oven. Hanging in the back yard? Grab a six pack of burger patties with buns, bacon and all the fixings. Add a bottle of house made demerara syrup, and mix up an Old Fashioned while the steaks are cooking.

We''ve made syrups so you don''t have to! Pick up a bottle of house made rich cane or demerara syrup and mix up your favorite cocktail at home. Looking for inspiration? Here''re a few cocktail ideas to get you started:

MWL House Old Fashioned:

2oz Old Forester bourbon
1 tsp rich demerara syrup
2 dash Angostura bitters
1 dash Peychaud''s bitters
*Stir, strain over ice in rocks glass, express oils from orange peel and garnish with orange peel

Daquiri:
2oz rum
.75oz lime juice
.5oz rich cane or demerara syrup
*Add ingredients to shaker tin with ice, shake and strain into a coupe

Mint Julep:

2oz bourbon
1 tsp rich cane syrup
6-7 mint leaves
*Muddle mint leaves with syrup in bottom of julep cup, add bourbon and then top with crushed ice and garnish with a mint sprig

ABOUT THE CLASS

Join us from the comfort of your home for another fun virtual cocktail class!  For this event, Brett Adams from Mezcal Union will lead us in a tasting of Mezcal Union El Viejo and provide insights to Mezcal Union and Mezcal production.  Following the lively discourse Brett will teach us step by step how to use this delicious mezcal in two different cocktails.

Mezcal Union''s mission goes beyond providing a great product and focuses on enriching the lives and land of those who make it all possible.  In the production of mezcal they search and support producers with investments in the development of their palenques (land where mezcal is produced), with the intention to increase their production volume, and taking care of a 100% artisan process, based on good practices and good care of the ecosystem.   Together these factors guarantee farmers and producers sustainable income and on average 25 times more than other working models.

Hello Future Members! We know the wait list at the Multnomah Whiskey Library can be long (if you are curious where you are on the list, email our membership manager to find out!). In appreciation for your patience, we''d like to extend an invitation to you to make a reservation at the Library in August. 

We''ve shared some information below regarding our safe dining procedures and the extra precautions we are taking to make the Library the safest indoor dining space in Portland.

We are open Wednesday - Saturday from 4pm - 10pm. Email us to set up your reservation - please include the date, time and number of guests. We''re looking forward to seeing you soon!

SAFE DINING PROCEEDURES AT MWL

Private Access. A code box is now located to the left of the entrance. Non-members can gain entrance by pressing the buzzer. A host will greet you at the door, and direct you to your table.

Text us. In an effort to make it easier  to visit, we have added a text line! If you would like to add your name to the wait list, are looking for a same day reservation, or would like to get in touch with our front desk during service, you can now text us for a quick response.

Online Menus. All of our menus, including the spirits list, will be available online. Check them out once you are here, or peruse the list before you come. Our physical menus will not be available, but our amazing bartenders and bar backs will be on hand should you like to talk shop - at a distance of course.

Preorder Food. Make the most of your time at the Library by ordering dinner before you arrive. For example, if you''ve been dreaming of our signature 3 lb. ribeye (like we have been!), let us know, and we''ll get it in the pan as soon as you arrive as it can take up to an hour to prepare. Just include your order in the reservation notes when booking online, or let our front desk know when booking by phone or email.  

Also, parties of four or more can take it one delicious step further, and pre-order a three course family-style meal for $85/person.  Round out your experience with a custom tasting flight exploring a theme, style or spirit category.  MWL Events Manager, Lani, is happy to assist you in creating something new and special for you and your guests to try. The Green Room. We've redesigned The Green Room as a waiting lounge and will be limiting access to keep you and your guests comfortable while you enjoy a drink and the new atmosphere. Due to the current table spacing restrictions, we will only be able to seat a few parties in The Green Room. On the bright side, we are making the entire menu available in The Green Room including the Library food menu and spirits list.
 

Nightly Sanitization. In addition to pre-service cleaning and a new stringent sanitizing procedure between parties, we have contracted a company to diffuse a sanitizing mist in all of our spaces every night after service. This hydrogen peroxide-based treatment is approved by the CDC and is completely safe while effectively sanitizing all surfaces.

Bring a Mask. For your safety, and the safety of all our guests, everyone who would like to enter the building is encouraged to bring a face mask and wear it while not seated at your table, including entering and exiting the building, walking to and from your table, and walking to the restrooms. Parties will be seated a minimum of six feet apart, and by order of the Governor, are not allowed to mingle. See a friend across the room? Send them a drink instead of dropping by their table. We''re happy to tell them hello for you!

Extra Hall Passes For Members.
Share the safety and security of the Library with your family and friends. We appreciate your support and patience during our mandated closure. As a thank you, we''ve added two extra Hall Passes to every Member''s profile so you can share the Library with the people you care about. We''ve also increased the party size - each Hall Pass will now allow a party of up to six friends, family or colleagues to make a reservation in the Library.

Private Dining in the Tasting Room. Enjoy your own private dinner behind the closed glass doors of the Tasting Room in the Library. Members can request this space for reservations of up to eight guests. Opt to preorder and save your card online for contact free service for your party. 

Have the Library to Yourself. The Library is available to buy out on Mondays and Tuesdays for a private party of up to 20 guests. Choose from our fantastic dining selections or outside catering while enjoying the beautiful space and impeccable service in the Library. Email questions to events@mwlpdx.com

There''s two exciting new cuts from Snake River Farms: Black Label Boneless Wagyu Short Ribs and Black Label Wagyu Hanger Steaks. Black Label cuts have been rated a 6 or above on the Japanese Beef Marbling Standard, so expect a buttery texture, complex flavors and a lingering finish. Add Tricolor potatoes, asparagus and a chocolate cake from Bee''s Cakes, to cook up a fantastic meal at home.
