KOREAN PORK BELLY SANDWHICH

Chef Ashley is putting Korean BBQ sauce on thinly-sliced pork belly and putting it into a sandwich with caramelized kimchee, pickled jalape�os and melted provolone. Per usual, our sandwich bread is Flour Bakery�s country loaf and we�re putting a turmeric pickle spear on the plate! It�s the perfect, Korean-influenced lunch!

We've got some new sparkling wine on our Fall wine list and you'll never guess where these bubbles are from... NEW MEXICO! That's right. "Sauvage" is a 100% sparkling Chardonnay from the Gruet winery near Albuquerque and is named for it's wild, untamed qualities. It's a soft, bone-dry bubbler with minerally aromas and flavors of bright citrus.

Starting on Saturday, November 30th, we'll be launching a book drive for our neighbors at More Than Words! More Than Words is a nonprofit social enterprise that empowers youth that are in the foster care system, court-involved, homeless or out of school to take charge of their lives by teaching them business skills in the More Than Words book store. So your donation matters! Drop off books to the restaurant and we'll give you a treat.

Speaking of More Than Words, Joanne will be appearing at their book store on November 20th for a special event where she'll be talking about Pastry Love and sampling treats from the new recipe book. The shop is located at 242 East Berkley Street in the South End - SUPER CLOSE to Myers + Chang.

PORK TONKATSU with FENNEL + APPLE

Tonkatsu is one of our very favorite ways to eat pork (and we know A LOT of ways to eat pork!). Pounded, dredged with panko breadcrumbs and fried to golden-brown crispiness, Chef Ashley's version strays from tradition with a bright tart fennel and apple slaw. She adds a subtle richness with "kewpie" or Japanese mayo drizzled on top along with a housemade tonkatsu sauce made with banana ketchup. It's a light yet filling lunch that we encourage you to eat while drinking a beer.

IT'S BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU TIME! We've got a new Wine of the Week. Beaujolais Nouveau is typically aged for a very short time. Every third Thursday of November, Beaujolais Nouveau Day is celebrated across France. It's the day the newest batches of the wine are released from their barrels and everyone gathers to drink it! We've joined in on the fun this year and started pouring this juicy, party wine over the weekend. It's perfect for large gatherings and pre-Thanksgiving get togethers. It's 100% Gamay and comes to us from the winemakers at Dufaitre in Burgundy, France. It's available by the glass, carafe or bottle! Come party with us!

We've got a few new dishes coming to our menu and we can't wait to share this one with you: BURMESE CURRY SKATE WING! We're serving crispy skate wing with sauteed green apple, daikon radish, brown butter + caper sauce and Burmese curry (a variation on curry that's made from lots of tomato and coriander). Come have it for dinner tonight!

Looking for the perfect holiday cocktail? Warm up with Sam's Sangria! It's a concoction of red wine and vodka that's infused with anise, peppercorns, cinnamon and Thai bird chilis for a little kick! There's also a bit of apple, orange and dragonfruit. This is a favorite recipe of ours, created by our good friend Esti (she's also the namesake of Esti's Hot + Sour Soup). She had a restaurant called Sam's on the waterfront which is where she refined this bold, wintery sangria. Cheers!

YUNNAN-STYLE BREAKFAST CONGEE

Chef Ashley took all the trimmings of a classic Yunnan-style noodle dish and swapped out noodles for congee (a hearty rice porridge). This warming dish is topped with fun stuff like pickled mustard greens, garlic chives, mint, chili vinegar and spicy ground pork to pack a classic congee full of flavor!

All proceeds from the event will go to Catie's Closet, a local non-profit organization that provides necessities, clothing and toiletries to students in grades K through 12 who are living in poverty or experiencing homelessness. We're serving one of our brunch specialties ALL WEEK LONG for lunch! Soy-glazed, small batch, local bacon is served with two fried eggs on slices of country loaf from Flour Bakery. All of our classic banh mi trimmings are there too: sriracha aioli, carrot + daikon slaw, cilantro and pickled jalape�os.

We've got a new wine on the menu and it's a mouthful. This 2016 Blaufr�nkisch from Weingut Heinrich in Burgenland, Austria is the perfect red to pair with holiday dinners. Refreshing, red-berried fruit meets piquant herbal spice and invigorating pepperiness. It's delicately-balanced with an animated acidity. Drink up!

We'll be keeping our kitchen open a little later than usual on New Year's Eve, so come party with us! From 10pm - midnight, we'll be serving a special snack menu as we countdown to 2020. Tuesday 12/24, Christmas Eve, we�ll be seating until 9pm and we won�t be doing Cheap Date Night.

Wednesday 12/25, Christmas Day, we will be CLOSED!

We�ll be open regular hours starting at 11:30am on Thursday 12/26.

Tuesday 12/31, New Year�s Eve, we�ll be serving dinner until 10pm and then serving a special snack menu from 10pm - midnight. We will not be doing Cheap Date Night this evening.

Wednesday 1/1, New Year�s Day, we will be doing New Year�s Day Dim Sum Brunch starting at 11:30am.

*If you�re going out on Christmas Day, you can visit the folks at Alcove, Momi Nonmi, Eastern Standard and Mamaleh�s. Our good friends at Parlor Sports will also have their bar open for drinks!

Speaking of New Year�s, we�ll be celebrating a few ways this year. First, on New Year�s Eve, we�ll be partying til midnight with special dishes to ring in 2020! We�ll also be celebrating the new year as it hits every time zone, meaning we�ll be making noise every hour. We�ll also be encourage guests to write a letter to their future selves (we�ll supply the pen a paper) that we�ll mail to you next New Year�s. It�s a fun tradition that Joanne has always loved.

LUNCH AT M+C:
BUTTERNUT SQUASH + KALE FRIED RICE

If you were really busy with the holidays last week, you probably didn't get a chance to try our lunch special. Good news! We're keeping it around for another week so everyone gets a chance to eat it (or eat it again)! This fried rice has steamed butternut squash, some roasted cremini mushrooms, dinosaur kale, plump golden raisins and plenty of cashews. It all comes together with pickled ginger and a fried egg on top for a hearty, rich dish.

It's here every day this week, 11:30am - 5pm!

New Year's Eve is tomorrow! If you still don't have plans, come party with us. We'll be serving snacks until midnight and celebrating with several traditions. We'll be announcing the new year in other time zones, encouraging everyone to write letters to their future selves (which we'll mail to you next year), and, most importantly, serving one-night-only NYE dishes, like this LOBSTER BIRD'S NEST!

This is a riff on a Cantonese dish saved for wedding banquets, birthdays or other special occasions. This version is made with lobster, water chestnuts and lily bulb. It's all cooked in the wok with a thick lobster sauce and finished with tons of garlic chives. The stir fry is then poured into a taro "bird's nest". Taro has a wonderful, earthy flavor and aroma once fried and actually becomes sturdy enough to build an edible basket that can hold all that delicate, juicy, saucy lobster. It's super rich, super decadent and definitely special. Happy New Year from us. Come eat!

MOCHIKO FRIED CHICKENMARI

This week, Chef Ashley is taking inspiration from a fun Hawaiian specialty. Crispy chicken is dressed with mochiko (a sweet rice flour) and a miso glaze for an umami pop. There's also some macaroni salad and crunchy soy crackers � classic Hawaiian side dishes. We're serving it all in a big bowl with white rice and lots of rich/funky/sweet gochujang aioli!

We�re filling fluffy bao with delicious, buttermilk-brined, ginger and garlic-dredged fried chicken and dressing them with plenty of gochujang - a tangy and spicy Korean BBQ sauce. Served up with a perfect autumn slaw of red cabbage and persimmon!

We�re celebrating Valentine�s Day BIG TIME this year with TONS of romantic, special dishes (and plenty of bubbly wine). We�re really excited about these Oysters with Calamansi Snow, pickled shallots, fresh cucumber and basil oil. Bright and refreshing, these will be the perfect aphrodisiac.

It wouldn�t be Valentine�s Day without something sweet (especially chocolate!). We�ll have this very cute, very mini Cherry Chocolate Cake! Each one is just big enough for two people, for $25. Flour Bakery is only making so many for us, though. So call us before WEDNESDAY, 2/12 to pre-order yours!

For those who prefer savory to sweet (but still like chocolate!) Chef Ashley whipped up this Jasmine Duck with Five-Spice Chocolate Sauce. Duck is slowly cold-smoked in Jasmine tea, then seared and laid on top of confit purple sweet potatoes. A warm, savory five-spice chocolate sauce is then generously drizzled on top with fresh pea tendrils and candied kumquats! We�re only serving these dishes (among others) on February 14th.

ISLAND GIRL FRIED RICE

This is a dish inspired by Chef Ashley's Filipino childhood. Pork belly is marinated in pineapple and a little bit of sugar, reminiscent of the flavors of Filipino BBQ. There's also bell peppers, mangoes and super savory Chinese sausage. Ginger adds a bit of bite while cashews bring the crunch. This is a warm, sweet + colorful fried rice that'll make you feel like you're strolling through Ashley's grandmother's garden in the Philippines.

We're adding a fourth menu to Cheap Date Night: LET'S GET PHYSICAL. Every Monday + Tuesday we offer a selection of prefix menus with the perfect amount of food for parties of two for just $45 per couple! Our newest menu features Tofu Fresh Rolls, Thai Ginger Chicken Salad, Soy-Glazed Salmon, Ginger-Scallion Bok Choy and a pot of Turmeric Tonic tea from MEM! ALL of these dishes can also be made GLUTEN FREE. We'll be keeping this around all January... or however long you end up keeping that resolution to stay fit!

LUNAR NEW YEAR is JANUARY 25th and we'll be celebrating this weekend! Our Lunar New Year menu will feature all the traditional, tasty dishes required to bring good luck in the new year: Crab + Calamari Longevity Noodles (because eating long noodles promotes a long life), plenty of dumplings (they signify wealth to come), Whole Fish with Beet XO Sauce (because the Chinese word for fish, "Yu", sounds like the word for "surplus" or "prosperity"), Red Curry Duck Leg with Coconut Sticky Rice Cake (because Duck represents loyalty) and Pineapple Upside Down Cake for dessert ("pineapple" sounds like "fortune" in Chinese). Sous Chef Chris has taken over lunch this week with one of his favorite Sichuan dishes! Flaky slices of cod and just-crunchy slices of Napa cabbage are poached with garlic, ginger, and chive in an aromatic broth full of star anise, sichuan peppercorns, cumin and cloves. CALAMARI + BACON PAD THAI

Pad Thai is characterized by its layers of flavors + textures and this one is no exception! Glazing bacon gives it a roasty sweetness, while the calamari is marinated in coconut milk before getting its crispy coating. Freshness comes from thin slices of red cabbage + earthy Thai basil, with a zingy squeeze of lime. And, of course, a tamarind-soy sauce coating every noodle that is sweet, sour, savory + just a little bit spicy!

CURRY DUCK TOSTADAS

Myers+Chang is often called an "Asian-fusion" joint, and sometimes we are! Chef Ashley is slowly braising duck in super aromatic red curry for these tasty tostadas. Crunchy Mi Ni�a Tortillas also hold bright papaya-persimmon slaw, sriracha aioli and a zesty avocado mash with a kick of nuoc cham. We can't promise it won't be messy, but it will be worth it!

It makes us very sad to hear that local Chinatown restaurants have been hit hard by unfounded fears of coronavirus. There have been zero cases related to Boston's Chinatown, and yet fewer people than usual are eating there. We love being a part of a vibrant, diverse community and we encourage everyone to support these great businesses.

We've had many a good time at places like Peach Farm, Hei La Moon and Gourmet Dumpling House. Taiwan Cafe and Tora are go-to spots for Joanne and Christopher. Our server and friend Tony Hui's family owns Wai Wai. We love all these places and more! Post pics of your meals with the hashtags #idinewithchinatown and #masupportschineserestaurants to spread the word!

We're jazzing up our cocktail selection with Chrissy's new dessert drink. Presenting AUNT BECKY'S COFFEE, our sort-of riff on an espresso martini. It's got vodka, coffee liquor, a splash of cold brew coffee and BECHEROVKA! Becherovka is a slightly bitter, herbal liquer from the Czech Republic (it's affectionately referred to as "Becky" by restaurant industry folk, hence our cocktail name).

Our Lunar New Year cocktail, the Rat's Meow, has now been permanently added to our cocktail list. This fun Tiki drink has Campari, pineapple and Tom Cat Gin from Barr Hill in Vermont. The folks at Barr Hill take their special honey-infused gin (bees are so important!) and age it in American oak barrels for a warmer, less botanical-focused spirit that drinks a bit more like whisky.

We really hope you'll join us and so many other great restaurants for Taste of the South End on Tuesday, March 24th! We'll be there alongside 39 other restaurants in support of AIDS Action Committee's essential programs and services. Buying a ticket gets you into the best party in town where you can eat a TON of great food, drink specialty cocktails, participate in the silent auction and chat up all the best chefs in town!

No Kid Hungry brings meals to children around the country. Through programs, education and even advocating for policy changes, No Kid Hungry works to create a nation where no child ever knows hunger.

Project Place (M+C''s upstairs neighbor!) has provided housing, job training and counseling since 1967. Those recovering from addiction, incarceration and homelessness can find hope and opportunity in their broad range of programs and support.

Before Lovin'' Spoonfuls officially existed, founder Ashley Stanley sketched out her plans for a food rescue in Boston while sitting at Myers+Chang. Ten years later, and Lovin'' Spoonfuls brings fresh, healthy food (that would otherwise go to waste!) to 30,000 people a week, through more than 160 non-profits.

More Than Words supports the most vulnerable young adults in the Boston area with job training + leadership opportunities. They opened up a second storefront down the street from M+C last year, and have expanded with an online store. Buy books + gifts while supporting their mission!

The fervor from this summer has quieted, but that doesn''t mean Black Lives Matter is working any less hard to create the kind of society we all want to live in. Together, we can create a world that is more just, less violent and full of leadership opportunities for citizens who have historically been denied them.

Their conversation highlighted the difficulty in getting concrete information about safest practices during this pandemic.

While we greatly miss seeing a dining room of smiling faces, Myers+Chang will offer takeout and delivery until we can safely and comfortably re-open our seating areas. Our staff continues to observe rigid safety protocol like well-spaced work stations, frequent sanitizing, wearing masks + gloves and daily temperature checks.

Many years ago, when Tea-Smoked Pork Spare Ribs were first on the menu, we heard guests call them "meat candy" and we loved it! Smoking the ribs over black tea + white rice makes them ultra-savory while a long braise makes the meat incredibly tender. SHAKING BEEF
(BO LOC LOC)

"Shaking" Beef (known as "Bo Loc Loc" in Vietnamese) is a sweet + savory stir fry. The "shaking" in its name comes from the back and forth motion of tossing the beef in the wok after it's quickly seared. We're serving it with tomatoes, watercress, sun-dried tomato relish and lots white rice.

Carrot Cake + Cream Cheese Frosting

Flour Bakery makes some dang good cakes! This weekend they''ve shared their Classic Carrot Cake with M+C: spices, walnuts + raisins bound up in the most delectable cake and slathered in cream cheese frosting. We''ll be offering slices for takeout or on the patio all this weekend-- or until we run out!

Order takeout, and you might find some edible chopsticks in your bag! Myers+Chang got a limited number of Goodsticks to pass along. They''re made from gluten-free flour with a corn coating, and wrapped in compostable packaging. If you use them, offer your feedback so the company can continue to improve. We hope this earth-conscious product takes off!

We keep coming back to Gaspard Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley. Fermenting with indigenous yeasts creates unexpected complexity in a well-loved varietal. It''s excellent on its own, but the hint of lemon verbena + briny minerality are great with a wide variety of dishes.

Cold nights call for hot noodles - and lots of them! Wild Boar Dan Dan Noodles are back on the M+C menu. Know a Great Woman-Owned Restaurant that Needs a Boost?

The Massachusetts Conference for Women and the Massachusetts Restaurants Association are working with Joanne Chang to offer $5,000 grants to women-owned restaurants. Applications are open at the link here, and there are 50 grants available.

The COVID pandemic has greatly affected restaurants, and women are taking on more caregiving and financial responsibilities than ever before. Joanne is encouraging women to apply for the initiative, which "will allow a number of women in this hard-hit industry to thrive and provide nourishment to their communities."

Applications are open until Oct. 22nd. You can also learn more about the virtual Massachusetts Conference for Women happening in December.

Most people think of fruit salad as a sweet + juicy side dish. But we love the traditional combination of savory, funky + spicy in our Green Papaya Slaw-- and Eater does too! Fish sauce, lime juice, chili + fried shallots may not be found in every fruit salad, but we wouldn''t skip them in ours.

Dear Friends and Family of Flour/Myers+Chang:

We wanted to reach out to you about the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. All of us here at Flour and Myers+Chang care deeply about the health and safety of our community. Like everyone else we share a lot of worry and concern about the ongoing crisis. We are monitoring the outbreak extremely closely, consulting with local health officials, and taking guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

We have always followed rigorous cleaning and sanitation procedures and now we are doubling down and taking significant increased precautions to keep everyone who walks through our doors safe. We wanted to share the actions we have been taking:

1. Team members who exhibit any signs of illness or flu are told to not come to work; we are providing financial assistance as needed to team members who miss work due to illness.
2. We are continuing to enforce strict hand washing procedures as well as proper glove use in all food preparation.
3. We are supplying hand sanitizer in multiple locations throughout our dining rooms and kitchens.
4. We have posted reminders in the dining rooms and kitchens for our guests and team on proper sanitation steps to take to stay safe and healthy.
5. Our dedicated dining room stewards are significantly increasing their frequency of sanitizing all surfaces, especially those in high-traffic areas such as our condiment stations at Flour, our bar at M+C, door handles, restroom doors.
6. We are using the same sanitation procedures above in our offices, staff rooms, and in the kitchens.
7. At Flour we are suspending the personal cup program we have in place when you bring in your own travel mug. We will continue to honor the green coffee price but we will now provide it in a paper to-go cup so that personal items are not entering our sanitized beverage production space.
8. At M+C we are removing seats in the dining room and the food bar to ensure enough space in between you and other patrons. We have also rearranged our line to insure that garnishes and sauces are not accessible to guests.

We love to cook and bake for you! We remain open for all of you. Our community, the neighborhoods we are part of, and our amazing team are at the heart of what we do and who we are. If you would like to enjoy our food at home we also offer delivery for both Flour and M+C as well as online and app ordering with Flour.

At all times, our top priority is to stay on course and provide you with the most hospitable service and wonderful food you are accustomed to getting from us. This is a challenging time for everyone and we are so grateful to be a part of this wonderful community as we work through this together. We thank you for your support and trust in us for the last 20 years and we will keep you updated with any changes as they happen.

M+C just added COCONUT CREAM PIE to our pickup menu! Each crispy tart shell is filled with rich coconut custard then topped with lime whipped cream + toasted coconut. It''s the perfect size for two to share (but if you want to keep it for yourself...we won''t judge!)

Another classic will be returning on Thursday: COAL BLACK CHICKEN WINGS! Dark soy sauce + honey in the marinade turn inky-black when these wings are fried up. And the flavor is as intense as the color!

CANH CHUA

Canh Chua is a traditional southern Vietnamese sweet + sour soup. This week, our sous chef David is layering curry paste and tamarind, lemongrass butter and nuoc cham into a broth that is sweet, sour, savory and spicy! Rice noodles help to soak up the broth and we're putting leafy pea tendrils, shredded papaya, bean sprouts, and fresh, housemade shrimp balls on top - all just waiting to get mixed in!.

We''re pouring a new, dry-style Riesling from Bernhard Ott in Wagram, Austria (a winemaking region off the banks of the Danube River). This 2015 "Feuersbrunn" Riesling has a distinct acidity. It''s balanced with floral notes of orange blossom and lemon pith that make it the perfect sipper along side some of our richer, meatier dishes like Pork Belly Buns and dumplings. Drink up!

KHAO SOI CURRY
with LEMONGRASS SHRIMP CAKES

Khao Soi is a Northern Thai dish with egg noodles and a golden coconut milk curry that''s rich, aromatic and spicy--but not too spicy! Our sous chef, Chris Thompson, is making his version with mustard greens, red onions, Thai basil, bean sprouts and crispy wontons on top.

But the star of this dish is definitely a trio of pan-seared, lemongrass-and garlic-spiked shrimp cakes!

Our Wine of the Week* is "Pleiades" Roditis from Papras Bio in Tyrnavos, Greece! This is a beautiful, intensely aromatic orange wine with big whiffs of citrus and honey. A savory-briny undertone gets mellowed out by soft tropical fruit and tart blood orange.
"Pleiades" is a name for mythical nymphs that are associated with the stars. Tyrnavos sits on the south slopes of Mount Olympus, as close to the stars as grapes can be grown!

Greek wines and orange wines can be an easy match to Asian dishes - and this one is BOTH! It''ll make your dumplings taste even better than they normally do. We start pouring it on Wednesday.
