"I LOVE YOU" In 120 Languages Pendant - SOLOMON�S POOLS

Israel is a tiny strip of fertile land along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea surrounded on three sides by huge, harsh deserts. Because of the area�s intrinsic lack of water, from time immemorial man has been forced to come up with inventive ways of capturing and storing every drop of rain that falls in the Levant�s brief winter.

Called the Pools of Solomon even though most modern scholars believe that they were more likely built during the reign of that grand architect, Herod the Great, these three ancient reservoirs are both beautiful, and vital.

Capturing the precious rainfall across a large catchment area of the hills of Judea, the flat-bottomed pools held the water until times of the all too frequent drought. It was then released to flow along stone pipes and extensive aqueducts that carried it all the way to Jerusalem, twelve and a half miles away.

Once in the capital, the water was stored in underground cisterns like the Struthion Pools that can still be seen beneath the Convent of the Sisters of Zion, by the Ecce Homo arch. This was insurance against drought or siege � both of which constantly threatened the city.

The Struthion Pools pre-date Herod, probably having been originally built by Hyrcanus, the Hasmonean king who ruled in the 2nd century BC. The Emperor Hadrian added the pools� vaulted ceiling in 135 AD.

Rachel was the second and favorite wife of Jacob. He married her older sister Leah, first, because of a trick played on him by her father, as told in Genesis 29.

Rachel is the only one of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs not to be buried in Hebron, and we are told that she died giving birth to her second son, Benjamin, while on the road to Bethlehem � and that Jacob placed a marker on the spot. Revered by followers of the region's three monotheistic religions, Rachel�s Tomb has become a popular place of pilgrimage. Through the centuries it has come to hold a special place in the hearts of women, and Jewish women especially come here to pray for fertility and for the healthy birth of their children.

The Gospel of Matthew 2:16-18 states that Herod�s slaughter of the innocent children in Bethlehem was the fulfillment of an earlier prophecy, �A voice was heard in Ramah. lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rachel weeping for her children refused to be comforted�, Jeremiah 31:15.

THE JORDAN RIVER -The Baptismal sites: Yardenit & Qasr el Yehud?

Fed in the north by melting snows from Mount Hermon and finishing its journey in the Dead Sea, the River Jordan takes over 200 miles to flow a distance that is only 65 miles as the crow flies.

Despite its modest length, The Jordan is one of the best-known rivers in the world. All four Gospels mark Jesus' baptism by his cousin, John the Baptist, who had been preaching repentance and preparing the way, saying,

?

"I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire", Luke 3:16.

Venerated by Jews, Christians and Moslems alike, the Tomb of the Patriarchs has its roots in antiquity. According to the Book of Genesis, it was in Hebron that the Patriarch Abraham - till then a wandering nomad - purchased his first plot of land in Canaan. It was a field containing the cave of the Machpelah, that he bought as a tomb in which to bury his deceased wife, Sarah, Genesis 23:4-20.

?The event took place in the Jordan River, and for generations, baptism in its waters has been a central part of the pilgrim's journey to the Holy Land. But different Christian traditions developed through the ages pointing to two spots on the western bank of the river as being where Jesus' baptism occurred.

?

The older tradition is maintained by the Orthodox Church at Qasr el Yehud, the Castle of the Jews, named in memory of the day Joshua led the Children of Israel across the Jordan River into the Promised Land.
