We're committed to figuring out diversity within Hero Conf. Our Diversity & Inclusion consultants recommended paying our speakers a stipend, so that's what we're going to do! 

The stipend amount is still being determined, but the goal of the stipend is to make the impact of travel costs negligible for our speakers.

You might be surprised to learn that it's uncommon for events to pay speakers. When event spaces charge $100 per gallon of coffee, and 600 people drink A LOT of coffee, and add in AV, food, and swag, overhead costs quickly become cumbersome and most industry events, like ours, are simply breaking even.

But we've learned that many folks view these speaking positions with no stipend as undervaluing their work, so they're not interested in pitching for Hero Conf. Ultimately, that's limiting the diversity of thought at our conference and our attendees deserve to hear from all perspectives.

Give us your best take on what can inform, inspire, and help the paid media industry - and we''ll pay up for those selected! Insider tip: be explicitly clear on what attendees will takeaway from your session and make it action oriented.

We want a more diverse speaker lineup at future events, and that means casting a wider net, repeatedly, to allow for even MORE paid media pros to toss their hats into the speaker ring.

We''re aiming for a record-breaking number of submissions, and we won''t settle for less, so we''re extending our Call to Speak submission deadline to January 21.

Our goal is to cultivate inclusion for underrepresented groups, and we are striving for our speakers to represent the broader US population. Our greatest progress is seen within the strides we've made to close the gender gap within our Speaker lineup. 

But we still have work to do on our end. We haven't yet collected data beyond gender, but we are holding ourselves accountable for the years to come.
