We've seen projects that were parked in the garage for years and are now finally finished, also movies of cars going up and down the driveway came to our attention. One of the favorite 'challenges' was the lock down party in the garage, made by one of our editors, which you can see below.

Information on the vehicle in the photo is somewhat limited but the sender knows it was a Delahaye, probably a type 135 of around 1938 but that''s it. We can ad that it's a short chassis car - perhaps a competition model? Can you tell us?

A meeting of giants?

The photograph was taken in March 1907 at the Angel Hotel in Guildford High Street, Surrey. The Angel is an old coaching Inn that quickly adapted to the requirements of the motor car. Interestingly a lady in full motoring costume is at the wheel, whilst two or three men in the foreground smoking cigars look as if they have come by car.

The Gypsy Coeds made friends everywhere with their Model T Ford

What a sight it must have been in 1934, 6 women driving around in a silver Model T Ford and making long summer trips. The Gypsy Coeds is what they called themselves. 20 women who were touring for 8 summers long in the same car, a 1926 Model T Ford known as the Silver Streak.

The question of what makes the Amilcar attractive isn't one that really needs to be asked. The appeal of the skimpy, uncluttered body sitting on its chassis with a pert, playful stance is instant and obvious. An impressive Itala, a private Mercedes collection and hot-rodding near the White House

A lot has happened recently, a new president in the States, lock downs in several countries but also progress on a vaccine for the virus that is affecting our daily lives. One thing is for sure; our classic car passion is still alive and kicking. We have heard good stories about people who finished their project, purchased new cars, drove their motorcycle for the first in a long time and enjoyed themselves doing that.

This impressive Itala needs your help with her early history!

The well-known Itala 35/45hp has been driven a lot by the former owner and the car is impressive any way you look at it. Not only is it reliable and strong (with its 7,5l engine) but most parts on the car seems to be original. However, not all of its history is known yet and we are hoping to find out more.

Behind the red triangle

This slightly built, quietly spoken man's lifelong love affair with Alvis cars started at age 19 when walking up a steep hill on an inner North Sydney street. A man in a car stopped to offer him a lift, he was grateful, and as the car climbed the hill with ease, Rob asked what brand of car is this? Is it a Morris? The driver replied, no it's an Alvis.

My UK-made Overland Model 90

This popular US car is one of over 180.000 built between 1917 and 1919. But this specimen is a particularly rare UK-made Overland Model 90 from 1918, in oily-rag state, still with its original paint and in Poland since new.

Hot-rodding near The White House

The Cootie seen here, parked casually in front of the US presidential residence in 1922, is based on an old Ford T-model and can be regarded as a very early hot-rod. The driver with that fierce look in his eyes, seen here behind the wheel, is also the builder. The man was known as Captain Frederick Kopper Junior.

Lake Perkolilli had never seen anything like this in modern times. Yes, it was hot and dusty but who cared? The motorsport was stunning. Cars and motorcycles kicking up clouds of dust, cars emerging from a bright red haze, motorcycles on song at speed. It was just like the 1920s when motorcycle speeds in excess of 160 kph were commonplace.
Recently a photographic celebration of the event came out. A beautiful book of high quality. The spirit of the Red Dust Revival 2019 has been captured in 350 full-colour photographs by photojournalist Sharon Smith.

How drawing historic Skoda models changed a life

It was a wonderful day in November 2005. I did not know that in a single moment my life was about to change.I had a terrible motorbike accident with several injuries, for 14 days I was in a coma, then I woke up. The most difficult months in my life were yet to come. I recovered and overcame the negative consequences. During this process, I found comfort and joy in drawing. A Bugatti Showroom in 1935, events during Covid-19 and an Alfa Romeo 8C vs a Mercedes 500K

The last few weeks we were lucky enough to drive our old cars and we were not alone. We''ve spotted quite a few others who did the same. Social distancing needs to be controlled and this can easily be done with our hobby. However, classic car events are still not held on a large scale, however, we interviewed one organizer who is inventive which you can read further on.
The classic car business on the other hand is booming. Lots of cars, bikes and parts have been advertised and sold through our pages over the last couple of weeks as well as at the auctions where they achieved good results. Let''s hope we can meet the new owners face-to-face in the near future.

Bugatti showroom in 1935 - Champs Elys?es?

Now that every Bugatti chassis has to be described in detail, it's good to still be surprised by a Bugatti fact or photo every now and then. We were surprised upon seeing this lovely picture of a Type 41 'Royale' parked (kind of) casually on the street in front of a Bugatti dealership. There appears to be a Type 57 Ventoux inside plus another Bugatti model on the right. Not quite as impressive as the Royale - still quite nice though.

When and where is it? It has to be in France. Paris? Champs Elys?es?

An Alfa Romeo and Zagato Mystery

A photo that we discovered in 2012, which was an Alfa Romeo 8C was the starting point when we received an email from a consultant for Zagato, Italy with new information on the car and a request for us to assist in their further search.

The image is of an Alfa 8C Monza with s/n 2111038. It was built in '37 and received a Zagato body. She raced at Mille Miglia with race number 145. Then she received a fascinating new aerodynamic body and was exhibited in the Zagato or Alfa Romeo stand at Milan Autoshow (April '37).

The wild Renaults of a winemaker

When Andr? Lurton passed away last year, a chapter in the Bordeaux winemaking dynasty of Chateau Bonnet ended. But apart from wine, Lurton had a great passion for historic vehicles, too. And the stables adjacent to the chateau housed some 80 classic cars, military and agricultural vehicles. And it's no exaggeration to say that Lurton's collection was a rather chauvinistic one.

The 1904 Blackpool Speed Trials is the event whereby we see racing driver Miss Daisy Hampson of Southport driving what looks like a Mercedes 60, with her chauffeur alongside.
It is interesting to note Hiram Maxim's Captive Flying Machine can also be seen in the background.

Summertime Special

The last few months have been pretty hectic and things have not been what we hoped for. BUT, over the last two weeks we have seen a positive spirit in the classic car business and with the summer approaching, we can start making plans once again. Go out, enjoy and stay safe!

This picture was taken in northern Tasmania, Australia. One of our readers asked us to help him identify the car in the picture. "My initial thoughts were that it is an Alvis 10/30 or 11/40, given the radiator profile and wheel dust caps.

We recognize an interesting story when we see one. And it was the case when we read about a Bugatti Type 40 in a little old 1970s booklet named 'Les v?hicules hors s?rie'. This little-known publication tells the story of a woman mysteriously named 'Madame P', who supposedly was a garagiste from the outskirts of Paris herself.

A car for true romance, some mysteries and the original Silver Ghost

Autumn has announced itself in our part of Europe, with heavy rain and wind. Besides that, unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic is still controlling our daily lives. Social classic car activity is therefore not allowable as it used to be. Fortunately we still see the classic car business booming and we are trying to stay positive.
Luckily, there is a lot to do at home. Not only by working on cars in the garage but also by reading about cars online and in books/ magazines.

The Esders Rolls Royce Phantom II - a car with elegance and a story to tell

Armand Esders - the name might ring a bell if you are a Bugattist. He is well-known for being the first owner of a Bugatti Royale. A singular feature of this car is that the headlights are missing. Dr. Armans Esders had great taste in cars. Next to the Bugatti Royale he also had a Hispano Suiza and a Rolls Royce Phantom II in his distinctive style, so with removable headlights.

This Rolls Royce recently came on the market and we looked into the amazing story.

Few cars are able to claim an almost unbroken history of competition use, but this 1933 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza, chassis 2211130, is one that can, and it's all the more impressive for its string of important owners.
Now resplendent in the British Racing Green it wore for the 1933 Nice Grand Prix, 2211130 still gets driven far and wide.

A Cadillac for Christmas?

This 1:3 scale Cadillac is believed to have been built in a series of four, with the first two thought to have gone to little Prince Olaf of Norway and another one to Cadillac-heir Wilfred Leland, who received his as a fifth birthday present.
The 'Baby Cadillac' weighed just over 180 kilos and could reach a 15mph top speed on battery power.

Early E-types, a barnfind Lancia and Auburn auctions

There are E-Types and then there are early E-Types!

Most of us are pretty familiar with the evolution of the Jaguar E-Type over its 14-year production, as Series 1 morphed to open-headlight Series 2 and V12-powered Series 3. But there's also a fascinating world hidden within the development of the very first E-Types of 1961.
The E-Type caused a sensation when released at the Geneva Salon in March 1961 and in New York shortly after. What followed was a kind of pre-production run of 500 cars.

Mysterious barn-find - a Lancia Aprilia Van Rijswijk Cabriolet

One of our clients, recently purchased this Lancia Aprilia Cabriolet. It is not a model from the sales brochure but a custom-built car. At home, he discovered a sticker in the window from Van Rijswijk, a Dutch coachbuilder located in Voorburg next to The Hague.

The heart of NZ's automotive industry

What we see here is Titahi Bay in Porirua, New Zealand, somewhere on a particularly lovely summer's day in the 1930s. While beaches have always been popular for amusement, it seems that most visitors to this particular place were mostly attracted to the dunes instead. With the beach used primarily for parking. And there was some great machinery to be found in the bay back on that day.

110 Years of Alfa-Romeo - or is it?

2020 is a bit of a special year for Alfa-Romeo as it is 110 years since the company was founded in Portello, just outside Milan on June 24th, 1910. And to celebrate the anniversary the company organized a grand get-together in and around the works museum.
But nitpickers as we are, we can ask ourselves whether the anniversary is correct, though.

PreWar PostWar Sunday times: a Paris-Berlin racer discovered, a road trip with the Beast and more.

The last couple of days, the Mille Miglia should have taken place. As we are already happy when we can start our classic cars, this is not as planned. However, the positive news is that in many countries life is slowly getting a back to 'normal' and the specialists are able to find a way of making this possible. Of course no classic car event can take place yet but don't forget, big journeys start with small steps.

A road trip with two Land Speed Record cars - captured on camera

Mystery solved:
one of three original Gladiator Paris-Berlin racers discovered

This car had been rescued from a cellar around 1960 and during the recent research of the unidentified vehicle, a remarkable similarity was found with one of the three Gladiator racers as used during this Paris-Berlin race.

Rebodied 8C 2300 Panoramica was alive in 1975

When these photographs arrived, we immediately recognized this car as the Zagato-bodied Alfa 2500 SS 'Panoramica'. Actually, it turned out that the car wasn't a 6C 2500 but an 8C 2300 of 1933 vintage that had been rebodied by the Milanese carrozzeria in 1943. Rumour has it that the actual 2300 engine was formerly used by Scuderia Ferrari... Read more.

A beaten Bugatti Queen

Imagine for a moment it is 1932. You are Hell? Nice, popularly known as The Bugatti Queen. You have recently won the title ''fastest lady'' at the Mount Ventoux Hillclimb and today you have just roared up the Klausen Pass Hill Climb in your Type 35 Bugatti in record time. But what''s this? As she is waving to the crowd, she hears the other lady competitor comes skidding around the final corner and across the line in her Bugatti. The timing clock tells her the awful truth - she has been beaten. Read more.

Sitting contentedly in the garden at last year's Concours Elegance at Hampton Court, one particular Bugatti Type 37A was turning heads even more than one might expect it to. Racing Bugatti's, after all, are blue nine times out of ten, yet here was a white one, and unrestored, too. One could not possibly help but be curious.

Yes, that's an Avions Voisin creation with perhaps a 'Torpedo Cabriolet' body or a 'Cabriolet Limousine'? But by whom? The flamboyant shape itself should certainly give a clue or two. Long cycle wings, polished aluminium bonnet, small doors, miniature rear window.
