COVID-19 is impacting everyone in unprecedented ways. The health and safety of our staff and their families is our top priority, and we are committed to taking care of them and our community.

As a small, family-run business, we’re committed to providing for our staff during these uncertain times. We have extended additional paid illness days for our staff to ensure no one comes to work if they are feeling ill and will be providing pay continuation for a period if any staff member needs to be away from work because of the impacts of COVID-19.

For our staff that need to be on-site to produce orders, we have taken significant measures to ensure their safety as we continue to produce and fulfill your orders. For those that can work from home, the majority started last week, and the rest will start working from home in the next couple of days.

As the COVID-19 situation continues to change rapidly, our plans may as well.

Currently, K-12 schools in both Minnesota and Wisconsin are closed or are closing this week. These closures will have an impact on our staff, and we are continuously modifying work schedules to spread shifts out and minimize the number of staff on-site at any given time. At this point, we are still able to produce 100% of our product line, but we do expect turnaround times to increase by a day or two as these shift schedule changes roll out.

We’re all in this together, so please follow the federal, state and local guidelines for keeping our communities safe. We hope you and your families stay healthy, and we thank you for your patience and understanding during this extraordinary time.

Today is the last day to order Wall Art with Standard Shipping and receive the order before the holiday.

We also offer an Overnight Shipping option, which will ensure delivery if the order is placed by the end of the day on Tuesday, Dec. 15th.

COVID-19 continues to impact us all in unprecedented ways. The Governor of Minnesota has issued a Stay at Home order that starts at 11:59 pm Friday, March 27th, and runs through 5 pm on Friday, April 10th.

For the health of our staff, their families and our community, we will close down our production facilities starting this Friday night until the Stay at Home order has been lifted. We want our staff to focus on staying home and healthy during these two weeks. All of our impacted staff will continue to receive full pay and benefits as if they were working during this time.

Since we learned of the order yesterday afternoon, we have added shifts and intend to ship as many orders as possible out by tomorrow night. If you are in immediate need of an order, please place it as soon as possible and reach out to customer service. We will be able to get you what you need if you get it ordered soon.

During the 14 day period, you can continue to place orders as you normally would. Customer service will be available by phone, chat or email to answer any questions you may have. Once the state order is lifted, we will be working seven days a week to print and ship orders in the order they were received. We will be ready to go when the order is lifted.

In the coming days, please visit our COVID-19 response page for the most current information. We will keep that page up to date with any additional info as it is made available.

Our staff in non-production roles have been working from home for two weeks now and will continue to work on the many exciting product and technology projects we have underway. We are continuing to do everything we can to serve our clients and keep looking forward.

We sat down with Utah-based Photographer Justin Hackworth to chat about his craft and his process.

ProDPI: Let's start with a quick introduction
Justin: Sure. I've had this business for 21 years. I started mainly as a wedding photographer but over the years that's evolved and so I’ve focused on family portraits and commercial work. My strength is that I am able to interact with clients in a way that makes them feel comfortable being photographed.

They often say “Oh wow, that’s it? We’re done? That was so easy, that was fun!” It’s a great compliment because I think most people are apprehensive about being photographed. The end result feels natural and very authentic. The essence of someone’s personality is what’s shown in the image.

What draws you to working with portraits and working with people?
I just really love photographing people. Some people assume that because I’m a photographer I shoot all kinds of things. I don’t shoot architecture, I don’t shoot food, or landscapes because it’s the interaction with people. That’s the thing that I like about photography. I feel like I can get something interesting or unique or that hasn’t been done before.












Portraiture has certainly changed since the dawn of the camera phone. Beyond the hundreds of photos we already have of ourselves, what’s important about taking the time to have a professional portrait taken?
One of the reasons I like doing family portraits is that I think the family unit is important. It’s something I value, the family, and family interactions. The photographs are the things that unlock a memory of our lives. A well-crafted photograph just tells that story more clearly.

Do you have a particular style or a creative vision that drives your process?
I like to think of it as a documentary style. It’s a little rough around the edges. Early on in my career, I didn't know what I was doing so I tried lots of stuff. There were some surprises and some unexpected things. 20 years later, I know exactly what works, so I have to consciously break out of that. I was recently shooting a wedding thinking “I’m going to be willing to have these images not be so idealized and perfect.” In reality, there’s plenty of things or little artifacts that may seem like a mistake. But it’s those artifacts that really flavor it from the beginning. What I’m trying to do is add elements to the image that may seemingly look like a mistake, but instead they just really give it this flavor.

Holiday Orders

To help answer common questions, we've written up a more detailed outlook for holiday orders. Here's the gist:

• We're expanding our Customer Service hours to help answer any questions you have about products, ordering, or shipping options.
• To help ensure your orders are delivered by the 24th, we've outlined shipping deadlines for each of our product categories.

Guaranteed Holiday Delivery

For Standard Shipping, orders must be placed by this Sunday, Dec. 13th to ensure that they will be produced and delivered before the Holiday. We're doing everything we can to fulfill your orders as efficiently as possible.

We sat down with Brooklyn-based Photographer David Kasyanyuk to chat about his style and portraiture work.

ProDPI: Let's start with a quick introduction
David: So this is year 10 for me doing photography. I actually started out doing video. I always wanted to make films. I’ve always been inspired by the romanticism of film and being able to tell a story through imagery. I used to think that film is the best way to do that but as I started to learn the process and everything, I really just fell in love with still imagery. Also partly because you don’t need a full team, you can just go out there and do it yourself. It was a bit more instant.

Like all photographers starting out I did a little bit of everything, weddings, senior portraits, some landscapes and all that good stuff. But I’ve realized over the years that I really, really love photographing people, photographing faces.

What draws you to portraits?
I’m most inspired by images that have a face or person in them because it automatically tells a story that way. It’s like,“Why is that person there?” or “What is that expression telling us?” 

It’s also something that’s most relatable to us. When you see a person’s face and you’re able to connect with their expression or how they’re feeling or where they’re located. I think the way people usually describe my work as being ethereal or dreamy, it feels fantastical in that way a bit. I think that’s something that people really like to connect to.












How are you able to connect with the person you’re working with?
Yeah that’s huge. I’ve always tried to make people feel comfortable. Talk to them, introduce yourself and have a little bit of conversation so they feel comfortable. I’ll let them open up a little it, and then ease into it to let them find their groove. I like to let people find their own creative expression. That’s what works best, developing that comfort and then allowing them to find their own creativity.

A good portion of your work is on location or out in nature. How do you approach those settings differently than in a studio?
Working with the elements is a part of the creative process. A perfect example is a shoot I recently did on a trip to Portugal. I was shooting at a beautiful, multicolored palace. But when we got there it was super windy and not quite raining but misting heavily. So there was all of this water and elements to deal with. We were like, you know what, let’s just work with it, let’s just see what happens. Her hair got really wet and had this kind of slick look. It actually made the images really, really incredible. I love how the images turned out. 

So I do that regularly. I go just go outside and see a really cool sliver of light and utilize that. You get inspired by the light that you see and the elements that are around you. I think that’s what makes the images more interesting.

What sets portraiture apart from other parts of photography?
The interesting thing about portraiture is that it’s how we document ourselves or other people in a moment. For a lot of people they view it as documenting this moment of time. Of how I looked or how I felt, or how I’m representing myself at this stage in my life. From a photographer standpoint, you might have your own ideas about what you want to achieve with this portrait. So you have these two perspectives coming together in one image. Sometimes that can be a disconnect, sometimes that can enhance the end result.

Cut Off for New Orders

There's still time to place new orders for our most popular products. We're able to produce and ship all Loose Prints, Books + Albums, and Cards if the orders are placed by the end of the day on Sunday, Dec 20th. Keep in mind that any orders placed this weekend will need upgraded shipping in order to arrive before the 25th. Read our full Holiday Guidelines for more information.

Looking Back

After such a difficult year, we are tremendously thankful for you and all of our customers. We're lucky to have such an amazing group of customers and ambassadors. Amidst the unpredictability, we made some important updates to our brand and business.

We redesigned our website, aiming to showcase the high-quality materials and craftsmanship that goes into each and every one of our products. We made it shoppable too – almost every product we make can be designed and ordered right through our website. We even launched a few new products: Acrylic Prints, Natural Ash and Walnut Wood Frames.
 

2021 Outlook

Looking ahead to 2021, we’re excited about what’s to come. We want to be a resource for photographers and other creatives – a place to learn about printing and create beautiful pieces of art with your work.

We’re working on providing better education about printing, whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out. We’re developing new and exciting products that we’ll release throughout the year. We’re continuing to enhance our online design and ordering tools. And as always, we’re dedicated to providing personable customer service when you need it.
