With the launch of the new iOS app we've had a huge number of messages and questions. So far the response has been incredible, everyone's loving it!

Most questions have been about the same things so to help you out here are the most common questions and answers about the new app.



When will the new Android app be out to match this iOS app?

We don't have a specific date as these are always very hard to predict, but the new Android app is well under construction and we aim to have it live as soon as possible.



Can I customise the new app as my own?

Pro members and above can get it custom branded as your own. To do this login to the PT Distinction web portal and select “Customise my app”. The branding process is very quick and we should then be able to get your custom app live in 1-2 weeks..

In the iOS store the app will be named Online Personal Training but takes on your logo, icon, colours, images etc.. on your clients device as soon as they download it.

If you already have a custom app the app has been updated but we need to resubmit all of your logos and icons to Apple to get them approved and live. We will get this done now and hope to have them live ASAP inside the new custom app.



Where have my old messenger messages gone?

With the new app release we switched to an improved messenger system, this means your old messenger messages will temporarily disappear. These older messages will be automatically copied in to the new system and added back in within 1-2 weeks of launch. If you need them sooner just contact us via the helpdesk and we can get them up straight away for you. This won't effect any pre scheduled messages you have set up to go in the future.



Does the new app have every piece of functionality clients can find in the web portal?

Yes, everything is now in the app and it's even easier to use than before. The only thing clients need to use the web portal for is integrating their devices/ apps such as Fitbit, MyZone and My Fitness Pal.

Of course the clients web portal is still there and can still be integrated directly to your website. You and your clients get the choice of which option is best for them.



How do I get my clients on to the new app?

If it hasn't already updated for them send your clients this link and ask them to download the new app from the Apple store here - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pt-distinction/id973466681.



I submitted a custom app a few weeks ago but it's not ready yet, how long will it take?

Generally custom apps take 1-2 weeks but Apple have taken a few weeks to put this new app live which caused a delay for recently submitted custom apps. Your new app should now be ready in the next week or two. We're sorry for any delay in receiving your custom app.



I'm no longer a member of PT Distinction but this new app looks awesome, can I try it out?

Yes, if you login to the software with your previous login details you should be able to reactivate your account for another free trial. If you then set up a test client you can use the app and have a good play around - Click here to login, set up a client and test the new app.

Each trainer in your team will have their own account and their own login details. You can distribute clients amongst your team and share all of your valuable coaching content in Templates and Groups. You will also be able to see everything your trainers share with clients.

Last week we set up integration to use YouTube or Vimeo for your exercise videos, now we've taken it a step further.

Now you can use YouTube and Vimeo videos in your clients nutrition, habit, and lifestyle coaching.

Simply add the URL of a video and it'll show directly inside your apps and web portal as a part of your clients coaching.

You can schedule these coaching videos in exactly the same way you would with anything else.

You can use this as a shortcut to add your own videos, or to share great content you feel will help your clients. For example you could add a healthy cooking demo in a few seconds.

Before online coaching, almost every client acquisition looked something like this:

Client wants fitness. You're a trainer. Client walks into gym. You're there. Client says, "I want training." You say okay.

Before online coaching, if a client in Beaverton, Oregon, wanted a trainer, she had the trainers in Beaverton to choose from - and likely just the trainers on her end of town.

Now a client in Beaverton can work with an online trainer in Topeka, Kansas or Bangkok, Thailand.

Location is no longer a factor. And a person five miles away doesn't have to seek you out just because you're local.

The internet has given us a world of infinite shelf space, a phrase that grew out of, as you might guess, Amazon's dominance.

Back in the day, the 'Zon started as an online bookstore. Compare its selection and prices to those at even the biggest Barnes & Noble and there was no contest.

Why? B&N had limited brick-and-mortar shelf space. Amazon had infinite digital shelf space and could offer any book title on the planet (now that goes for toilet paper, portable air compressors, and fish oil too).

Online training made the same transformation. Now that anyone can hire any online trainer on the planet, we've eliminated "availability bias," which kept people working with coaches close by even if someone farther away was the better choice.

It used to be the same in a lot of other industries. You bought whatever brand of product your local supermarket stocked. You had just a few options of coffee to choose from, for example.

Not anymore. Now you can order any coffee you like. Even niche companies can reach customers on the other side of the globe. The result is a decentralized, democratized, and open marketplace.

Online training is open and unregulated. This is good for you because it's easier than ever to enter the market. Unfortunately, if it's easy for you, it's easy for everybody else as well. Anybody can post shirtless pics on Instagram and call himself an online trainer.

Guess what? You don't need to worry about those people.

The people who last in this business are the GOOD ones (like you) who find ways to set themselves apart.

That's why this online environment is so exciting. A wide-open market lets you set yourself apart.

The single greatest marketing advantage you have, and will always have, is that there is only one of you.

This isn't about accumulating thousands of followers. It's about appealing to a faithful audience that trusts you and sees you as an expert, their expert.

In any open marketplace, the best will always thrive because, in a market devoid of availability bias, the customer becomes the boss, choosing based on relationships, reputation, trust, and who she believes can best serve her.

With gyms shutting down and people staying at home many face to face trainers fear losing their clients, their income and struggling to cover the essentials like rent and food.

A few simple actions can help Coronaproof your face to face coaching business.

The key right now is to replace what you offered before and keep it simple.

As I see it you need 3 or 4 things to replace your face to face service/ income and bring it online:

1 - A live streaming platform to replace face to face sessions.
2 - Workouts, nutrition guidance and tracking that clients can do at home for the times they''re not doing live sessions.
3 - A message to send your clients informing them of how you plan to continue delivering their sessions
4 - If you don''t have one already set up you''ll need a way to take money online.


Here''s a bit more detail on how I would do each one...


1 - A live streaming platform - Zoom is a great platform and allows quality two way conversation and video. Here''s a link (not an affiliate one!) - https://zoom.us/

Replace what you offer and keep it simple so...

- Group clients go in a group meeting.
- 1-1 clients go in a private meeting.

Stick as closely as possible to the same class and 1-1 training schedule you have in the gym. At times like this a lot of people find comfort in routine.


2 - Workouts, nutrition guidance and tracking that clients can do at home for the times they''re not doing live sessions.

- Most clients will need a few extra workouts to do on their own time.
- Add in continued education and tracking for nutrition and lifestyle. Keep in mind the current restrictions when setting out ideas for your clients.
- Offering workouts and food ideas that kids can join in with will make it much easier for clients and much more fun when/ if the schools all close.

To make things extra easy I''ll set up some home training templates for you and share them in PT Distinction.


3 - Something to send to your clients informing them of how you plan to continue delivering their sessions.

- Let clients know what you''ll be doing and how you''ll be delivering it.
- Remind clients of the importance of exercise on the immune system and mental health at this tough time and reassure them you will be continuing service.
- Don''t even mention cancellations, service continues as normal, just using a different medium.


4 - Taking payment online - PayPal works well or just ask clients to pay directly in to your bank account..... keep it simple!


Right now this is all you need to help your clients, and keep your income steady. Don''t overthink it, it''s a time for simple actions.
