Aaron Waite, MD, explains why the Oertli CataRhex 3 was the logical choice.
Choosing a Phaco Machine With Top
Stability and Efficiency
After just a few cases, the Oertli CataRhex 3 was the logical choice.
By Aaron Waite, MD
Last year, I opened my own cataract and refractive practice with an in-office surgical suite. To offer the best visual results, I decided to invest in what I felt was the best technology. As part of my surgical technology suite, I chose the CataRhex 3 (Oertli Instrumente AG, Switzerland) surgical platform for phacoemulsification for its astounding performance in the OR. In a technology environment where bigger is better, touch screens dominate, and there is an ever-changing stream of available features, the CataRhex 3 is completely different.

Meeting Coverage From the 2020 Caribbean Eye Meeting
Speakers from the meeting highlight key points of their presentations.
Results With an Adjustable Lens Technology
With an increasing number of premium IOL options available, William F. Wiley, MD, describes how the RxLAL (RxSight) technology fits into today’s practice. About 92% of patients enrolled in the FDA trials of the RxLAL were within ±0.50 D of intended target, he says. In this new era of technology, Dr. Wiley classifies patients depending on their lifestyle goals and then selects the IOL based on those goals.
Delivering a Quality Patient Experience
Patient experience with cataract surgery is key in delivering a successful overall procedure, and certain products in the OR can make surgery go smoother, Denise M. Visco, MD, MBA, explains. In her talk, Dr. Visco shares data from her retrospective study of 2,000 patients that compared the use of topical steroidal and nonsteroidal drops to the use of intracameral phenylephrine and ketorolac intraocular solution 1%/0.3% (Omidria, Omeros).
Predicting Patient Satisfaction After LASIK
James C. Loden, MD, discusses the results of his prospective trial to predict patient satisfaction after LASIK. In the study, Dr. Loden used the ocular scatter index (OSI) on the HD Analyzer (Visiometrics) to determine patients’ OSI scores after LASIK. With careful selection and meticulous attention to detail, he says, 100% of patients can achieve 20/20 or better visual outcomes.
Innovative Drug Delivery at the Slit Lamp
P. Dee G. Stephenson, MD, FACS, describes how the intracanalicular dexamethasone ophthalmic insert 0.4 mg (Dextenza, Ocular Therapeutix) has helped to relieve the burden of patient compliance with postoperative drop regimens in her practice.
The 3D Surgical Landscape
Sharing his extensive experience with heads-up cataract surgery, Robert J. Weinstock, MD, says using 3D technologies such as the Ngenuity (Alcon), Artevo 800 (Carl Zeiss Meditec), and the Beyeonics One (Beyeonics) can help to create a more ergonomic OR setup for cataract surgery. The trend in 3D surgical systems, Dr. Weinstock says, is undeniably the future of microscopic surgery.
Combining MIGS Devices
In his talk, Inder Paul Singh, MD, describes how combining a stent with viscodilation of the Schlemm canal can help surgeons to have a better chance at achieving the target pressure. Combining MIGS procedures is a newer concept but one that continues to gain traction, Dr. Singh explains.

Retina experts present parameter sets and treatment results in webinars and cases
Retina experts present parameter sets and treatment results in webinars and cases
Dear Ophthalmology Professional,
Tissue-friendly laser treatment with a train of extremely short microsecond pulses is an increasingly popular concept in retinal care. Rather than photocoagulation, this treatment concept aims to use photothermal stimulation for diseased retinal areas, preserving cell function and avoiding retinal scarring.
More and more retinal physicians are moving to integrate this approach in their daily clinical routines, and many patients are becoming aware of this gentle treatment option. Various parameter sets have shown good results.
Navilas? 577s, the only navigated, all-digital retina laser, accelerates the learning curve with a unique level of transparency. Even if effects are invisible, laser spots can be applied precisely and evenly with digital documentation for easy traceability.
Watch our on-demand webinars and read the new eCaseBook with your peers'' experiences using navigated subthreshold laser.

"Navigation allowed us to place a dense microsecond pulsing spot pattern close to the fovea and to effectively reduce subretinal fluid."
Prof. Leonardo Mastropasqua and Lisa Toto, MD, University "G. d'Annunzio" Chieti- Pescara, Italy
"I think that one of the challenges when applying subthreshold laser is that when you don''t have visual feedback to know where you''ve administered laser. So with the Navilas?
documentation, it''s nice, because you can be sure of where you''re applying the laser."
Dr. Pradeep Prasad , Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at UCLA Stein Eye Institute , and Chief of Ophthalmology division of the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

Transform cataract and refractive surgery with high-resolution OCT images.
Enlightening swept-source OCT images with ANTERION
ANTERION? - the multimodal imaging platform optimized for the anterior segment - provides a high-resolution visualization of the entire anterior segment, from the anterior surface of the cornea to the posterior surface of the lens.
Its revealing swept-source OCT images provide the basis for very precise measurements that are required for cataract and refractive surgery.
Learn more about ANTERION
Transform your clinical workflow with an all-in-one solution
ANTERION is a modular, upgradeable platform. Three applications - the Cornea App, Cataract App, and Metrics App - provide the most important anterior segment examinations and measurements. ANTERION captures corneal topography and tomography, anterior segment metrics, axial length measurement and IOL calculation; all on one platform. Your patients do not need to move to multiple devices, saving you valuable time and space. Fast acquisition and easy operation further improve your clinical workflow.
Cornea App
With the Cornea App, you receive the most important corneal measurements, such as topography, tomography, pachymetry, wavefront analysis and total corneal power, which can be displayed in different layouts customized to your clinical needs.

SS-OCT: Clinical Applications for Diagnosing and Following Ocular Pathology
By Rubens Belfort, MD, PHD; Pearse Keane, MD; and Ki Ho Park, MD, PHD
Faster scanning speed provides clear images that aid in identifying pathology while greater penetrance allows the ability to understand changes in deeper tissues, such as the choroid and lamina cribrosa.
In this insert, Rubens Belfort, MD, PhD; Pearse Keane, MD; and Ki Ho Park, MD, PhD, discuss the broad range of potential applications for discovering pathology and following it over time with swept-source OCT. The increased sensitivity with the DRI OCT Triton (Topcon) provides new information that assists in clinical decision-making. With the potential to perform multiple imaging studies on a single platform, coupled with correlation to anatomic markers across various imaging modalities, the Topcon DRI OCT Triton is poised to be a powerful clinical tool.
