Here at Rozalia Project we have been having a good autumn! The results of our ICC 2020 Together Apart cleanup are in and collectively we had impact. Read on to learn more about what we accomplished and connect with our awesome brand partners who donated the weekly giveaways and helped us expand our online audience!

We had a successful microplastics educator workshop in the beginning of the month and I am excited to share our latest curriculum with you! Data driven cleanups and citizen science are an important step on the path to raise awareness and work towards solutions!

With funding from NOAA''s Marine Debris Program and National Marine Sanctuary Foundation and in partnership with Blue Ocean Society and Booth Bay Sea and Science Center, we held our first virtual educator workshop! Over 20 teachers and educators from all over New England joined the conversation about microplastics pollution and got the inside scoop to teach hands-on activities and experiments to their young learners.

There are so many different ways to bring awareness to ocean health and this poem and drawings from Friends and Anemones: Ocean Poems for Children warms our heart and is sure to inspire young ocean protectors.

Our electric dryers are putting microfibers directly into our environment. This new study by Rozalia Project Founder, Rachael Z. Miller and multi-year Guest Scientist, Kirsten Kapp, is a first-of-its-kind study that investigates another, potentially significant, source of microfiber pollution - beyond washing machines. Notably, this study looks at both distribution of fibers that fly out of the exhaust vent and into the air above our gardens, yards and city streets as well as investigates the total amount of lint emitted by the vent and caught by the lint trap in two different dryer installations. The results will help shape the conversation around microfiber pollution and inspire additional research, innovation and solutions.

This article is published in the online peer-reviewed journal PLOS ONE and open access (free for everyone to read). Rachael and Kirsten are especially keen for their work to inspire additional research. Hello Ocean Lovers!

During my daily walks to the shores of Lake Champlain in Burlington, I am reminded that our work on marine debris and pursuit to find solutions is needed now more than ever.

But, it will have to wait while we continue to work together to keep people healthy. Therefore, the Board of Directors and I made the decision to postpone the launch of our sailing vessel, American Promise. This will result in no on-water or in-person programming through June of 2020. We will keep you updated as we navigate forward.

Rozalia Project wishes you the best during these trying times. Thank you for sharing the vision for a clean ocean.

Hello Ocean Lovers!

The summer months for the crew of the Rozalia Project is the time of year that we fill our nets and buckets up with marine debris, continue to collect data to support our ongoing research, inspire folks of all ages to be a part of the solution and re-energize to keep fighting for the health of our oceans.

This year is looking much different for all of us and because of the ongoing safety and health challenges we are facing, the Board of Directors and I made the decision to not launch American Promise this season. Instead, we are embracing this moment to reimagine our impact, our programs and take a deep look at this changing climate.

We are supporting virtual and in person education of young learners though our curriculum and sharing our work through presentations within our network of marine debris organizations. Our team is working to improve our education and cleanup efforts through new grant opportunities and developing new guidelines to cleanup safely during the pandemic. We continue to make new partnerships with like minded non-profits and corporations with mutually beneficial goals and we are looking to the horizon for 2021. We are confident that we will navigate this way forward together.

While this does not beat the thrill of sailing aboard American Promise with a group of passionate ocean lovers and change makers, I am grateful for waves of balance and breeze. Hello Rozalia Project Peeps!

Monday, June 8th, 2020 is the 35th anniversary of the launch of American Promise. And as luck would have it, it is also World Oceans Day! Rozalia Project has been protecting the ocean for 10 years with American Promise as our oceanographic research vessel and we are excited to celebrate.

Prior to COVID-19, we had big plans with an homecoming expedition to Marblehead, MA where the boat was splashed 35 years ago. The schedule included a week full of beach clean ups, education programs, outreach and sharing American Promise''s legacy with the community. However, to keep the community safe we are not doing that.

Sooooo.. we decided to take this celebration virtual and we need your help!

1.Photos: Share your photos. They can be pictures of the boat, you and the crew on the boat, on the helm or any American Promise photo that makes you happy.

2. Videos: A story of Dodge, a favorite quote of his or a video of you reading your favorite passage from his book, "The Voyage of American Promise" or the documentary, Around Alone. Make sure you introduce yourself at the start of your video and please record vertically as that format is best on Instagram.

Once you find a picture or make a video, click the link below and upload on our Google Drive. We will take it from there and make an album on Facebook, post the videos to Instagram and spend the week beginning June 8th celebrating our beloved marine debris mothership, American Promise.

We are honored to celebrate Dodge Morgan, his vision to take on the impossible and keep this world record-breaking boat's legacy alive as we continue our work to clean and protect the ocean.

We can''t wait to see what comes in!
