Turtle Beach Recon 70: Decent Audio Reproduction, Cheap And Plasticky Build

The Turtle Beach Recon 70 are acceptable gaming headphones that offer good overall performance, but their build quality is quite plasticky, which makes them feel very cheap. On the upside, their microphone's voice recording quality is good, their sound profile is decent, and they have a comfortable fit for long gaming sessions. Unfortunately, they don’t have a companion app like other gaming headphones that would allow customization options, and their fit doesn’t isolate well against ambient noise. Nevertheless, they are a good option if you want a versatile wired headset for all your gaming platforms.

Skullcandy Indy: Durable Design, Dark Sound Profile

The Skullcandy Indy are truly wireless headphones that have an overall disappointing performance. They have a very dark sound profile and will be better for bass-heavy music, but will still sound fairly boomy and muffled. Our unit also had mismatched drivers and the right earbud was noticeably louder. On the upside, they are decently comfortable and have a good IP55 rating for dust and water resistance, although we don't currently have a test to confirm this. These headphones will be a decent option with good value for people who want a stable and breathable truly wireless design for sports without caring too much about sound quality.

SteelSeries Arctis 9X: Great Audio Reproduction, Might Be Tight For Some

JBL Live 200BT: Lightweight And Small Bud Design, Sub-Par Microphone

The JBL Live 200BT are decent, mixed-usage, around-the-neck headphones that have a good neutral audio reproduction. These headphones are fairly comfortable, and the buds are small enough and lightweight that you barely feel them when wearing them. They can also be connected to 2 devices and have around 10 hours of battery life. However, they won’t be ideal for commuting since they don’t isolate much low-end noise, and their microphone is sub-par for calls. On the upside, the Live 200BT are versatile for most music genres and have excellent wireless range.

Sony WH-XB700: Good Battery Life, Dark Sound Profile

The Sony WH-XB700 Extra Bass Wireless are okay on-ear headphones. They have a very dark sound profile which will be better suited for bass-heavy music. They are decently comfortable for on-ear headphones, but their large cups almost feel like over-ears. They also feel slightly cheap due to the thin and lightweight plastic used for their build. On the upside, they have good battery life and also support NFC.

This week, we've reviewed the JBL Live 400BT Wireless, decent mixed-usage headphones with good audio reproduction.

JBL Live 400BT Wireless: Great Battery Life, Poor Isolation In Noisy Environments

The JBL 400BT are decent, mixed-usage, on-ear headphones with a well-balanced and customizable sound. They have decent audio reproduction with a slight emphasis on bass, which is great for bass lovers. They also have a good parametric EQ, so you can make them sound the way you prefer; this makes the Live 400BT a bit more versatile than the similarly-designed JBL E45BT. They have an excellent battery life, great wireless range, multi-device pairing, and they're fairly easy to use. Unfortunately, their on-ear design doesn’t isolate much ambient noise and isn’t the most comfortable.

The JBL Live 500BT are fairly versatile headphones that have a decent sound profile. These headphones are quite similar to the JBL E55BT, which seem to be the previous lineup before the Live series. This week, we've reviewed the Sony WH-XB900N, acceptable headphones for mixed usage with decent sound quality.

Sony WH-XB900N: Comfortable Design, Very Long Charge Time

The Sony WH-XB900N are fairly versatile headphones for a variety of uses and are built to be a more affordable option to the Sony WH-1000XM3. They feel more plasticky than the higher-end model and their ANC is quite disappointing, so the XM3 may be a better value for most. The XB900N have a bass-heavy sound profile that might sound a bit dark to some. On the upside, they have a remarkable battery life, but they do take quite some time to charge fully. They're comfortable to wear for long listening sessions and have a good amount of customization inside their app.

Bose Hearphones Wireless: Comfortable Design, Sub-Par Audio Quality

The Bose Hearphones are unique earbuds that have a conversation-enhancing feature. They're designed to help you hear better by amplifying ambient noise. They also have a decent ANC feature that blocks out ambient noise and are quite comfortable to wear for a while. Unfortunately, they don’t have the best audio quality, which is disappointing. We couldn’t accurately test their conversation-enhancing feature on our current test bench, so we tested these as normal Bluetooth headphones, but we do think they do a pretty good job at enhancing ambient noise. However, the earbuds emit very loud and piercing feedback sometimes, which is painful.

Beats Powerbeats Pro Truly Wireless: Good Control Scheme, Poor Isolation Performance

The Beats Powerbeats Pro are great truly wireless sports headphones that have a good audio reproduction. They are versatile for a wide variety of music genres. These headphones are very stable and breathable, thanks to their ear-hook design and relatively compact in-ear fit. Unfortunately, they don’t create an airtight seal and will let noise seep into your audio, which won't be ideal for commuting. Their case is also quite bulky, though you shouldn’t have any problem fitting it in a gym bag. On the upside, the Powerbeats Pro are premium headphones that have one of the best battery lives for a truly wireless design.

Bose 700 Headphones: Impressive Bluetooth Microphone, Less Balanced Sound

The Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 are comfortable, well-built noise cancelling over-ears. They have a more futuristic design that feels better-built than that of the QuietComfort line-up, but not as quite comfortable. Sony WI-C310: Decent Audio Reproduction, Slightly Cheap Build Quality

The Sony WI-C310 are decent mixed-usage in-ear headphones. They are very lightweight, their neckband design is flexible and portable, and they’ll be stable enough for running. They have a decent sound profile but might be better-suited for bass-heavy genres. The bud cables are very long, creating big loops when wearing the headphones, which may be a bit cumbersome. On the upside, they have a good 17-hour battery life and isolate well against work environment noises, but won’t be the ideal choice for public transit. They are decent all-around headphones and offer good value, but don’t necessarily stand out from other similar in-ears.

Sony WI-C200: Good Battery Life, Mushy Control Buttons

The Sony WI-C200 are decent-sounding in-ear neckband headphones. They are practically identical to the Sony WI-C310, but with very slight design differences. The C200 audio cables aren’t flat, feel a bit flimsier, and they aren’t available in as many different color schemes as the C310. Their performance is decent across the board and they offer good overall value. They are lightweight, easy to carry around, and have a good battery life. However, they don’t isolate well against ambient noise and some may not appreciate the always-on sidetone when using the mic since it feeds your voice and ambient noise back into your headphones. On the upside, if a black or white color scheme is fine for your headphones, you can save a few bucks and get these instead of getting the WI-C310.

Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee: Great Audio Reproduction, Tight Fit That Can Be Uncomfortable

The Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee are great sounding open-back headphones. They are a collaboration between Sennheiser and Massdrop and can only be purchased on the Drop website. They are very similar to other Sennheiser models like the Sennheiser HD 600 and the Sennheiser HD 650. They are comfortable headphones that should be used for critical listening and won’t be versatile for other uses. They don’t have an as significant bass roll-off as the other Sennheiser open-backs we've tested, and have a decent punch for open-backs. The Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee offer one of the best value when it comes to open-back critical listening headphones.

SteelSeries Arctis 1: Good Audio Quality, Cheap And Plasticky Build

The SteelSeries Arctis 1 are decent gaming headphones that have good audio quality and a great sounding microphone. However, they are the entry-level model of the Arctis lineup from SteelSeries, and it shows when it comes to their build quality. The Arctis 1 feel plasticky and fairly fragile, and don't support the SteelSeries Engine for customization options. On the upside, they are very lightweight, and thanks to their 1/8” TRRS connector they offer audio and microphone support on pretty much all gaming platforms. They can be a good option for people who are looking for a straightforward and versatile headset.

Creative Outlier Air: Well-Built Design, Very High Latency

The Creative Outlier Air are decent sounding truly wireless headphones that have a very bulky design. They are quite comfortable, but people with smaller ears might feel too much pressure being put inside the ear. The overall build quality of the headphones and case are good and feel sturdy. These headphones offer about 8 hours of continuous playback time, which is quite high for a truly wireless design. Unfortunately, they don’t block out much ambient noise in the lower end frequencies, like the sound of a bus engine, and won’t be the best option for commuting. Nevertheless, they offer great overall value if you don’t mind pushing the buds deeper into your ear when using their controls.

Logitech G Pro X: Good Audio Reproduction, Bulky Design

The Logitech G Pro X is a good sounding gaming headset that has lots of customization options. It's one of the most comfortable and better-built gaming headsets we’ve reviewed so far. They look quite similar to the HyperX Cloud II but feel slightly more high-end. They have a detachable boom microphone and Blue Voice technology inside their app, letting you access tons of customization options and settings for the mic as well. Unfortunately, like most gaming headphones, they're quite bulky and don’t fare well in noisy environments. They also perform quite inconsistently across different users, so your experience may vary. On the upside, they can be used on pretty much every gaming platform, and come with an extra pair of pads and an additional mobile-friendly audio cable to you use with your phone.

Cambridge Audio Melomania 1: Well-Built And Durable Design, Battery Life Lower Than Advertised

The Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 are decent truly wireless headphones with a unique earplug-like design. Their sound profile is decent for fans of bass-heavy music genres, but they lack detail on vocals and lead instruments. They’re not the most comfortable in-ears we’ve tested, and some people may even have trouble getting them to fit at all, but if their fit works for you they have outstanding passive isolation. Commuters will appreciate how well they reduce noise without leaking and athletes will like their stable fit and IPX5 rating for water resistance. Unfortunately, their battery life measured lower than advertised, which is a bit disappointing. That said, their physical controls are easy-to-use and they feel well-built, so those who appreciate their earplug design will likely find they provide decent value.

Sabbat E12: Breathable And Stable Design For Sports, Very High Latency

The Sabbat E12 are budget truly wireless headphones that have a slightly excited sound profile but still offer good overall value. They come with more tip options than typical in-ears in this price range, have a fairly comfortable fit, and have a decent microphone recording quality for calls. They are also fairly well-built, although the case’s lid feels a bit cheap. They also won’t be the best option for commuting as they only passively isolate a bit of ambient noise. On the upside, their case supports wireless charging and holds 4 additional charges. These will be a good option for fans of bass-heavy music that don’t have a lot of lyrics.

Nura Nuraphone: Very Well-Built Design, Limited Control Scheme

The Nura Nuraphone are unique headphones thanks to their hybrid design. The over-ear part of the headphones provides you with punchy bass, while the in-ear part is for the mid and treble ranges, which unfortunately sounds a bit sharp and piercing. They have a good app that lets you create different sound profiles based on their personalization process which scans and adjusts the sound of the headphones depending on how you hear. Unfortunately, we had issues testing these headphones and most of our sound review is based on our subjective evaluations. Our testing procedures couldn’t accurately measure the Nuraphone, and the results we got don’t seem to represent the experience of the user.

The 5 Best Wireless Earbuds For iPhone

It's hard to deny that Apple has a pretty nice ecosystem for their devices. If you have an iPhone, an iPad, or a Mac, then you've most likely been tempted by what Apple has to offer in the headphone department. Their sound profile lacks sub-bass and detail on vocals and lead instruments, which means they aren’t suited for a wide variety of music genres. On the upside, they have a nice head mapping feature that customizes your sound profile inside one of their two companion apps. However, they practically don’t isolate against ambient noise, though they're comfortable enough to wear for a while. The SXFI Air also have an easy-to-use touch-sensitive control scheme. They're kind of a mix between Bluetooth headphones and a wired gaming headset.

Mixcder E9 Wireless: Good Audio Reproduction, Bulky Design

The Mixcder E9 are good budget headphones that perform quite well. They have a good overall audio reproduction and their ANC system is quite decent as well. They have a long enough battery life for a full day and their design is quite comfortable to wear for hours. However, they do feel a bit plasticky, though they aren’t quite as cheap as some other headphones in their price range. On the upside, they have a great and easy to use control scheme and have surprisingly low latency for Bluetooth headphones.

Raycon E50 Truly Wireless: Decently Well-Built Design, Poor Noise Isolation

The Raycon E50 are unremarkable truly wireless headphones. They have a very dark and boomy sound profile and don’t have any features or performance that make them stand out from the rest of the headphones on the market. They're decently well-built and are decently comfortable, but that’s about it.

The E50 were upgraded to the Raycon E55 and aren't purchasable on Raycon's website anymore. We have ordered the E55 and will test them as soon as possible.

The Raycon E100 are decent truly wireless headphones that are fairly versatile. They have a V-shaped sound profile that has more emphasis in the bass and treble ranges. They have a classic in-ear fit that isn’t the most comfortable for some, but on the other hand, blocks a lot of ambient noise. Unfortunately, their battery life is disappointing, and their microphone is pretty bad for calls. On the upside, they're rated IPX7 and feel more premium than the Raycon E50. However, these headphones aren't widely available and are hard to find aside from on the manufacturer's website.

Bowers & Wilkins PX7 Wireless: Amazing Battery Life, Bad Microphone For Calls

The Bowers & Wilkins PX7 are headphones that have a dark sound profile but are very well-designed. They have a sleek style and are quite comfortable to wear for a while. These headphones are very well-built and feel robust. They're also noise cancelling and block out a good amount of ambient noise. However, their microphone is bad and shouldn’t be used for calls, and they lack audio customization options inside their app. On the upside, their battery life is amazing and they're compatible with aptX(HD) and aptX Adaptive, although we can’t currently test for those.

The Beats Solo Pro are very well-built on-ear headphones that have a fairly neutral sound profile that's a bit on the exciting side, with a bit of extra bass and treble. They have a premium feel and sleek design, on top of having a very good active noise cancellation feature that blocks out ambient noise well. However, they're very tight on the head for some people, which becomes quickly uncomfortable, and they can only be used via Bluetooth as the charging cable doesn't provide audio. On the upside, the 24-hour battery life should be more than enough for most people.

Skullcandy Sesh: Good Isolation Performance, Poor Microphone Quality

The Skullcandy Sesh are a decent pair of truly wireless in-ear headphones that offer a very good price-to-performance ratio. They're made out of plastic but have a good build quality that feels quite durable and well-made, especially for the price. These in-ear headphones have a stable fit, are decently comfortable, and even do an alright job at blocking out background noise, making them a good choice for the gym or your daily commute. Unfortunately, their battery life isn't great, with 3.5 hours from the headphones themselves and only an additional two charges from the case. On the upside, their sound profile is decently well-balanced, though it may be better suited for fans of more bass-heavy genres.

Raycon E55: Decently Comfortable, Bad Microphone

The Raycon E55 are the upgraded version of the Raycon E50 Truly Wireless, although their sound performance is noticeably warmer and packs a lot more bass. These headphones are portable, fairly comfortable for in-ears, and are a good option for sports, but if you're not a bass-fan, these won't be for you. On the upside, their 5-hour battery life is decent for truly wireless headphones.

Note: These headphones only seem to be available via Raycon's website.

Corsair Virtuoso RGB: Very Good Microphone Performance, Poor Isolation Performance

The Corsair Virtuoso are decent wireless gaming headphones. They have an understated and premium design that's a lot less flashy than many other gaming headsets, with subtle RGB Corsair logos on each ear cup. They feel quite well-built, but unfortunately aren't the most comfortable, and likely will cause some fatigue after long gaming marathons. On the upside, their wireless latency is great with their included USB dongle, and they can even be used wired by plugging them into the controller of either a PS4 or Xbox One. Their microphone performance is very good, though transmitted speech may lack some detail.

Note: We reviewed the SE variant, though we expect the performance to be very similar. The Corsair Virtuoso SE has more customization options for their RGB side-lighting, brushed metal aluminum on their ear cups, and a slightly larger microphone.

EarFun Free: Very Portable, Lack Of Volume Control

The EarFun Free are decent truly wireless headphones. They have a bit of a bass-heavy sound profile and their vocal reproduction is a bit recessed. They offer a decent total battery life and are decently comfortable for in-ears. However, they won't be great for watching video content as they have a noticeable delay and aren't the best option to block out ambient noise. Nevertheless, they're a good option for someone who isn't looking for premium truly wireless headphones.

Jabra Elite 75t: Comfortable And Durable Design, Unremarkable Microphone Quality

The Jabra Elite 75t are a decent pair of truly wireless in-ears, and a good upgrade to the popular Jabra Elite Active 65t. They have a similarly well-built design, though the earbuds themselves are noticeably smaller which gives them a much more comfortable fit. Their case is also smaller, easier to open, and provides three additional charges, giving the Elite 75t a total of 27-hours battery life, which is very good for truly wireless headphones. Their bass has more thump than previous models, but unfortunately, they don't isolate sound nearly as well. Overall, they're a well-rounded pair of truly wireless in-ears that should be good for most uses.

The Sennheiser PXC 550-II are decent, well-rounded headphones. These premium-looking over-ears are very similar to the previous version, and the most noticeable difference is their greatly improved ANC performance. Their sound profile is very well-balanced and they should be versatile enough for most genres of music. Like the previous version, they have a comfortable and very stable fit, meaning they're even a good choice if you prefer using over-ear headphones at the gym.

AfterShokz Aeropex: Comfortable And Stable Fit, Poor Bass Response

The AfterShokz Aeropex are Bluetooth bone conduction headphones. Due to their unique design, which uses vibrations instead of speakers to produce sound, they don't go on or inside the ear in any way, and the earbuds simply rest on your temples. Due to this, they don't block any ambient noise, making them a good choice if you like to always have background music or podcasts playing while still being able to carry on conversations, or if you run outdoors and want to stay aware of your surroundings. Overall, they're a unique pair of headphones that won't be for everyone, but for specific uses, they may be exactly what you're looking for.

Amazon Echo Buds: Excellent Battery Life, Very High Latency

The Echo Buds are decent truly wireless in-ear headphones. Their sound profile is fairly well-balanced and should be suitable for most genres of music. They're one of the cheapest pairs of truly wireless in-ears with active noise cancellation (ANC) that are available, and do a very good job at blocking out engine rumbles and background chatter, though most of this is done passively and the ANC only helps marginally. Their case is a bit on the bulkier side, but it provides a total of 32 hours of battery life, which is excellent.

Klipsch T5: Great Looking Charging Case, Sub-Par Microphone Performance

The Klipsch T5 are unique-looking truly wireless headphones that have a weirdly long stalk that enters your ear canal. They might not be the most comfortable headphones due to this design, but they're still a decent option for people looking for wireless headphones with an excited, V-shaped sound profile. The battery life on a single charge is quite impressive for truly wireless headphones, and they come with a very nice charging case.

Note that we had issues with the fit of these headphones on our measurement equipment, which results in odd-looking results. In this review, we give our subjective impression of their sound, but a colleague couldn't get them to fit in his ears and thinks the measurements below could be representative for a user who can't find a good fit.

JBL Tune 120: Decently Comfortable, Slightly Cheap Feeling

The JBL Tune 120 are pretty versatile truly wireless headphones that are decent for most uses but don't excel in anything in particular. These headphones are also decently comfortable, but using their control scheme pushes the headphones deeper into your ears, which can be painful and annoying. They offer about average battery life when it comes to truly wireless earbuds. They don't necessarily stand out from the different available options on the market, but are rather affordable and well-rounded headphones that should please most people, if you get a unit with matched drivers.

Note: Unfortunately, our unit had mismatched drivers, so the bass on the right earbud was noticeably thinner and less thumpy, which is disappointing. However, this might be specific to our unit and if you get two good performing earbuds, they should sound well-balanced and neutral.

Anker SoundCore Liberty Air 2: Well-Balanced Sound Profile, Mediocre Microphone Performance

The Anker SoundCore Liberty Air 2 are a decent pair of truly wireless headphones that are a good upgrade over the previous version, offering some high-end features like wireless charging and a dedicated companion app. They have a well-balanced sound profile that has a little extra kick of bass, but should be versatile enough for most genres. They also isolate a decent amount of background chatter and have an amazing battery life for truly wireless headphones.

Anker SoundCore Life P2: Well-Balanced Sound Profile, Disappointing Microphone Performance

The Anker SoundCore Life P2 are decent truly wireless in-ear headphones that offer great a price-to-performance ratio. They have an almost identical design, fit, and sound reproduction as the Anker SoundCore Liberty Air 2, but are a more budget version that lose some of the more premium features, like a dedicated app and wireless charging. Their sound profile is versatile enough for most genres of music, but have a nice small amount of extra thump and punch in the bass range. Their in-ear design may not be comfortable for everyone, but they feel quite stable and are even rated IPX7 (though we don't currently test this), making them a good choice for wearing to the gym.

JBL Reflect Flow: Good Build Quality, Bulky Design

The JBL Reflect Flow True Wireless are a decent pair of earbuds that are well-built and have a well-balanced sound profile that should suit most genres. They're a bit bulky, but with proper fit, they're stable and shouldn't cause any issues when using them for sports. They also have very good passive noise isolation and don't leak very much, so you should be able to pump up the volume safely without bothering those around you. Unfortunately, they're not compatible with JBL's mobile app, so you can't customize the sound. Overall, they're still a great pair of headphones to take to the gym.

Raycon E25: Good For Sports, Overpowering Bass

The Raycon E25 True Wireless are decent mixed usage in-ear headphones. They have a comfortable fit that's well-suited for sports and have an acceptable build quality. They're among the lightest and smallest in-ears that we've tested so far, but contrary to their size, they have a rather bass-heavy sound that may not please all ears. Moreover, they lack high-end features such as active noise cancelling and app support for customization. At this time, their availability is somewhat limited, though they can be purchased easily through Raycon's website. All in all, if you're looking for a basic pair of true wireless headphones to take to the gym, they'll perform just fine.

AKG K371: Very Well-Balanced Sound Profile, Poor Noise Isolation

The AKG K371 are very well-balanced over-ear wired headphones. They have an incredibly accurate sound reproduction that's well-suited for a wide range of music genres and content. Unfortunately, they have a very unstable fit, and will likely fall of your ears with even a fairly small amount of head movement. They're decently comfortable, though, and feel fairly well-made with a premium look thanks to their faux-leather finish on the headband. Overall, if you want a pair of headphones for listening to music at home, these are a good choice.

Audeze LCD-1: Premium And Well-Built Design, Heavy Audio Leakage (By Design)

The Audeze LCD-1 are open-back planar magnetic over-ear headphones with a sleek design that's more reminiscent of casual headphones than most other typical audiophile-centric over-ears. Their sound profile is well-balanced and they look and feel quite premium thanks to their mix of good quality plastic, metal, and faux-leather. They're one of Audeze's least expensive pairs of headphones, making them a great option for someone who wants to try a pair of open-back reference-grade headphones while maintaining a casual look, and without breaking the bank.

Razer Hammerhead: Earbuds Feel Stable In Ear, Very Limited Customization

The Razer Hammerhead True Wireless are passable truly wireless earbud headphones. While their earbud design doesn't go deep into the ear canal, unfortunately they're quite large and don't come with different silicone tip sizes, so they aren't the most comfortable. Their sound reproduction is very poorly-balanced, and they produce a very dark and muddy sound profile. While their 'Gaming Mode' does seem to lower their latency quite a bit, it's still likely too high for most competitive gamers, and you'll likely notice sync issues between what you see and what you hear.
