Jacob,
This time of year is filled with reminders of my wife, Mary.
In the final days of summer before a new school year, she was always so eager to see her students at Sandy Hook Elementary, where she was the school psychologist. She loved her job so much – she felt as though those kids were a part of her family.
Before school started in 2012, she had talked about possibly retiring at the end of the year – but she never got the chance. Just a few months later, on Dec. 14, she ran toward the sound of gunfire and gave her life to protect her students.
While nothing I do can ever bring Mary back, I can honor her. I’m spending the rest of my life doing everything possible to protect children from gun violence. As children and educators return to schools this fall, we need to sustain and expand our lifesaving programs to prevent more tragedies. But we can’t do that unless we reach our $350,000 goal, and we’re falling short. So I’m personally asking for your help: Will you donate right now to help us protect more children from gun violence?
Please give $10, or as much as you can, to Sandy Hook Promise right now. Your donation is critical to helping us prevent school shootings and save more children’s lives this school year.

I still miss Mary each and every day – especially when I think about the memories we would have made over the last nearly eight years. We would have spent our summers relaxing by the lake together, and Mary would have been here not only to see her daughters grow up, but also to welcome her two granddaughters, who will never get to know their grandmother. They are incredibly beautiful and loving little girls. Mary was always looking forward to doting on her future grandchildren.
Even though that future was taken from us, I like to think Mary is proud of the work we’re doing to protect children like the ones she gave her life to save.
Thank you for making this work possible with your support. It means so much.
