Creating connections among science educatorsFeeling excited and want to share your ideas? Or perhaps feeling isolated and looking for advice and inspiration? Help might be one click away!

New Zealand science education associationsThe New Zealand Association of Science Educators (NZASE) co-ordinates and supports teachers across all subject and year levels. It provides support on many levels – including regional branches with local experts and advice.

Visit the NZASE website or one of the subject associations to discover what they have to offer:

  • Primary science (NZAPSE)
  • Biology (BEANZ)
  • Chemistry (NZIC)
  • Earth and space science (EESE)
  • Environmental education (NZAEE)
  • Horticulture and agriculture (HATA)
  • Physics (NZIP)
  • Science technicians (STANZ)
Social media optionsSocial media is a great way to celebrate science learning and to seek advice from colleagues. Facebook offers closed groups including these:
  • P?taiao
  • NZ Primary Science Teachers
  • New Zealand Biology Teachers
  • Earth & Space Science Educators NZ
  • New Zealand Chemistry Teachers
  • New Zealand Physics Teachers
  • New Zealand AG/HORT Teachers
If you use Twitter, follow and use the hashtags #scichatnz, #STEMeducation and #edchatnz. This will link you to an active and helpful online community. Follow the Royal Society Te Ap?rangi education feed on @scienceannounce and Curious Minds – He Hihiri i te Mahara on @curiousmindsnz. Both post useful links to resources, projects and local events.

Alternatively, have you thought about setting up a regional education Twitter account like @Welly_ED or @PalmyED? This enables educators in your area to easily identify each other, and it enables us and other organisations to easily target educators in your area by tagging you into events and activities of interest.

And don’t forget to follow us @NZScienceLearn – we love to help!
