A group exhibition presented until recently in Paris celebrated collaborations between artists and machines. Human Learning: What Machines Teach Us also explored the emergence and development of different forms of Artificial Intelligence over the past decades. The exhibition features works by Matthew Biederman, Olivier Ratsi, Emilie Brout & Maxime Marion, Gr?gory Chatonsky, Emilie Gervais, Sabrina Ratt? and Justine Emard among others.

A new exhibition featuring work by Sougwen Chung and Refik Anadol is planned later this year at the S?rlandets Kunstmuseum in Norway. Re.Memory presents Anadol's project Melting Memories and Chung's work Drawing Operations, both of which have received numerous awards including at the 2019 Lumen Prize. Due to COVID-19 the exhibition start date has been postponed, with new dates to be announced soon.

A new large scale installation project by fuse* has recently been launched. The project, Mimesis, combines weather station data and AI software to consider how human interactions have shaped the evolution of life on Earth, and how future life-forms might be influenced during the anthropocene.

Exclusively released on Sedition, Pluripotent Cells is the first video of the ongoing series Biologlitchy - a project studying glitch distortion in image files after applying compression and manipulation of files data.

Made in collaboration with biotechnology researcher Anna Spina, the aim of the Biolglitchy project is to bring together imagery from a scientific research method like immunofluorescence, and a glitch art technique such as databending. Here, Barra is attempting to juxtapose the approaches by digitally manipulating images from Spina's staining research, as both entail the study of the structure and behaviour of elementary organic and digital matter, with the common goal of revealing what is unseen to the human eye.

Domenico Barra is currently participating in two online events: an art curating group show and an experimental gallery and artist's network. Barra, also known as Altered_Data, has been one of the driving forces behind both events, which are connected and decentralized.

Hyperschwarm is a series of 3 triple channel generative media installations, each consisting of three 4 minute videos in 4K UHD resolution. It is an update of the Schwarm series, which uses the same generative system with the difference that the color composition is being generated from within instead of being pre-defined. The colors are re-generated at specific intervals during the execution of the software, shifted in hue over time and faded over the last set that was drawn onto the canvas. The installation is evolving slowly over time, revealing new colors through the particles that flow across the canvas. Each set has 3 different scales at which the points flow across the drawing surface at varying opacities.

Fabrica Frame is a new collection of digital artworks created by artists taking part in the Fabrica Residency at Fabrica, the research centre set up in Treviso, Italy following the vision of Luciano Benetton and Oliviero Toscani. The launch marks the beginning of a new collaboration between Fabrica and Sedition.

The collection features eight screen-based still and video works by artists working at Fabrica, showcasing a selection of exciting works by emerging interdisciplinary artists and researchers. The featured artists are Alessandro Niro, Diego Gil De Biedma, Guilherme Vieira, Harry Grundy, Lara Lussheimer, Madalena Silva Carlos, Sarah Elawad and Zhang Zhan.

The launch of Fabrica Frame takes place during Merry Fabrica, the annual Christmas market at Fabrica where innovative makers, artists and designers present their work. This year's Merry Fabrica takes place online and will include a series of live Instagram talks and a discussion event on the theme of the future of creative industries.

We''re pleased to announce the relaunch of Ali Phi''s MUELAQ collection with the addition of two new artworks.

MUELAQ is a module of futuristic and monochromatic pieces linked to Ali Phi's ongoing installations, which take inspiration from ancient concepts while creating a futuristic and timeless digital sculpture. The audience are invited to lose themselves in these timeless spaces and in their imaginations, to activate their sense of virtual expression, and to explore themselves in virtual space.

From 26 October to 9 November Ali Phi presents ENFOLD, a series of digital paintings, as part of an online e-auction organised by Ontario Science Centre. The funds raised will support the Science Centre and its programme of inclusive science-based educational events and activities. The fundraiser is part of the RBC Innovators' Ball, which this year is held online.

Entrop draws inspiration from the pre-film animation device called the cylindrical zoetrope: a spinning cylinder containing a sequence of images or three dimensional objects resulting in the illusion of motion. Entrop is based on a virtual three dimensional version of such a zoetrope, using digital means to go beyond the traditional physical relation of energy and movement.

Entrop has been screened at Sonic Acts, Amsterdam, NL; Stuttgarter Filmwinter, Stuttgart, DE; Aguilar Film Festival, Aguilar, ES, Simultan Festival, Timisoara, RO; and VIS Vienna Shorts, AU. The work is part of the online edition of the Kurzfilmtage in Oberhausen in May 2020.

Zeno van den Broek's audiovisual work Entrop, which launches on 13 May on Sedition, is showing as part of Kurzfilmtage International Short Film festival Oberhausen from 13 to 18 May. Entrop has previously been screened at Sonic Acts, Amsterdam, NL; Stuttgarter Filmwinter, Stuttgart, DE; Aguilar Film Festival, Aguilar, ES, Simultan Festival, Timisoara, RO; and VIS Vienna Shorts, AU.

We''re delighted to share a recent interview with painter and digital artist Paul Benney. The interview gives insight into the ideas and methods behind the artist''s recently released digital artwork Host (pictured).

This month Luigi Honorat will launch Intangible IX, the ninth in his Intangibles series of ten works. This is the first work in the series to be released in 16:9 4K. The entire collection will be released later in the year in 4K. Intangibles is an ongoing study exploring the possibilities of procedural modeling and animation. The project retains some of the limitations of physical sculpture as it deploys itself within a particular space, and explores how 3D rendered work could be turned into physical sculptures.

On 3 June Francesca Fini launches a new collection of five works Vanitas Vanitatum on Sedition. Vanitas vanitatum, et omnia vanitas (from Latin: the vanity of vanities, and all is vanity), is a famous biblical passage taken from Ecclesiastes, often cited to affirm the emptiness of earthly concerns and the ephemeral character of the joys and glories achieved in this world. This concept is linked to the memento mori in art history, where an hourglass glittering in the dark, a wreath of withered flowers, a skull resting on a philosophy book, a flickering candle next to a window, remind us of the fragility of the human condition. Starting from this principle, Fini put into practice her technique of fake found-footage, through the processing of impossible moving images, created manipulating materials that belong to pre-cinematographic cultures.

On 13 June Matteo Zamagni launches a new collection of still works from his Crepuscolo project. The editions in Crepuscolo: Collection 2 are digital extracts of a series of 2.5 x 2.5 metre physical prints which were made using a large number of ultra HD satellite images of terrain around the world; this source material was originally collected as part of the creation of Horror Vacui, Zamagni's earlier acclaimed short film.

New to Sedition, Montreal based artist Fran?ois Qu?villon will release a collection of works titled M?t?ores on 24 June. The collection is the result of a residency that Qu?villon made in the Tablelands in Newfoundland (Canada), one of the few places where the Earth''s upper mantle is exposed. The artist used 3D scans of Tablelands rocks to create looped animations.

Host is a new moving image artwork by Paul Benney. The work is part of series of paintings by the artist brought to life with video/digital editing.

From 25 to 28 June Horror Vacui, the acclaimed video work by Matteo Zamagni, will be presented as part of a Lumen Prize screening at CADAF, the online third instalment of the Contemporary And Digital Art Fairs following the fairs in New York City and Miami last year.

From 11 June to 26 July Gordon Cheung and Annie Morris are among artists participating in Drawn Together, a group exhibition presented online and organised by Unit London. We''re pleased to announce a series of recent updates to our apps. Our iOS and Android apps now have improved Chromecast integration and general performance we''ve added some improvements and fixed some issues following feedback from our members. We''ve also improved our Apple TV app, with more Apple TV improvements scheduled in the coming weeks.

On 8 July a new collection of artworks selected by DesignCollector Network will launch on Sedition. Digital Decade SE 2020 features works by a hand-selected group of digital artists whose work asks "What will the near future, post 2020 look like?" The virtual group show will be accompanied by a VR/3D exhibition online. Details to be announced early next week.

This month we are planning a series of exciting new releases by existing and new Sedition artists. This week we celebrate the launch of Jono Brandel''s collection The Transcode Series, which was accompanied by a talk at Gray Area on 2 July (the talk online after the event - contact Gray Area for details). Next week, DesignCollector Network will launch a new curated selection of eight artworks by acclaimed digital artists. Mid-month, Michelle Poonawalla (whose collection Introspection is pictured) will launch a new collection of works, while the end of July will see artwork launches from Paul Benney and Louise Stern.

Avenue Montaigne is a photographic work carried out during the Paris Lockdown. It is an apology for clothing as well as a reflection on the idea of social distance.

MarieVic invited her mother Genevi?ve to participate in a ritual: every day, they spent the authorized hour to exercice to greet each other from afar. The idea was to maintain a bond despite the distance, to maintain a sense of community despite the isolation. They met half way, on the legendary Avenue Montaigne and posed in front of ghostly fashion houses dressed in fashion galore.

Avenue Montaigne is an exercise in style: the story does not change, two beings present themselves to each other. Every day an image, every day a new skin. The ever-changing but constantly changing expression of a desire to be together.

From 14 to 18 December, M5 will feature Avenue Montaigne as a 4-channel video installation displayed in their space in New York''s West Village.

Quantum Foam is a collection of eight works launched on Sedition by Frederik De Wilde as part of his project of the same name, which seeks to visualise quantum phenomena.

The works are hypnotic visualisations that act like portals to the quantum universe.To realise the videos, the artist tapped into a random number live data stream derived from a tabletop laser experiment with entangled photons, and channeled this data across the internet into a custom-made software application. Hence, the works are a product of direct quantum data measurements, their corresponding energy values, and ultimately true random generated numbers.

On 17 August Frederik De Wilde presented a talk at the Museum of Cosmonautics in Moscow. The talk, which was held on Zoom, was organised by the museum in collaboration with ARTYPICAL as part of the Space Art Summer School programme curated by Natalia Fuchs and co-hosted by Peter Kirn.

In summer 2020 Francesca Fini is performing in two art events which blend the physical and the digital. Both events have evolved digital-physical hybrid formats in response to the lockdown.

From 5 to 7 June Fini presents a video performance, Lockdown, in collaboration with Francesca Leoni and Francesca Lolli, as part of GOLEM, an artistic event organised by the Trojan Foundation. From 17 to 26 July Fini is artistic director for Endecameron20, a virtual art residency which will broadcast from a real location - Rocca Sinibalda Castle in Lazio District, Italy.

This week Sougwen Chung speaks about her collaborative human-robot drawing project DOUG as part of the BBC radio series The Digital Human. Speaking alongside MIT Media Arts and Sciences professor Pattie Maes, User Experience Design professor Alessio Malizia, and Associate Professor of Anthropology Dietrich Stout in a programme exploring how to live symbiotically with technology. On 11 March 2020, Novi_sad presented an audiovisual performance, ????????, with live sound and light in Ancient Olympia, Greece. The work was developed for the opening night ceremony for the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, which has been postponed to 23 Jul until 8 Aug, 2021. The one-hour performance with choreographed light and sound creates a powerful synaesthetic experience leading up to the lighting of the Olympic torch.

This series comes from Philip Clemo & Shout at Cancer's charity project From Silence Into Song. It marks the 75th anniversary of the catastrophic atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. It also explores the hopes and prayers of the residents from those reborn cities. The soundscapes have been formed from diverse sound fragments including B29 bombers, Morse code and Japanese songs about the bombings.

From Silence Into Song tells life-affirming stories of survival shaped by the powerful legacy of radiation. It brings together the voices of a choir of cancer survivors, treated with radiotherapy, with a choir of trees that survived the catastrophic nuclear explosions in Japan in 1945. These choirs unite their voices, breaking their silence into a song of hope.

All profits from this series will directly benefit the Shout at Cancer charity.

The Shout at Cancer choir, film-maker/composer Philip Clemo, composer/experimental vocalist Reeps One and the From Silence Into Song team will be commemorating World Cancer Day on Thursday, 4 February, 2021 with an online performance.

The choir will be performing a new piece, composed with sound recordings captured from sensors attached to survivor trees in Hiroshima & Nagasaki at the exact times of the detonation of atomic bombs over their cities 75 years earlier. There will also be a chance to meet members of the choir and see the survivor trees in all their glory.

Treize Alpes is a collection of seven video works by Jacques Perconte now released on Sedition. The video works are recordings of a new generative piece by the artist. Only seven variations have been captured; seven exceptional moments that remain the only traces of this piece, erased by the artist once the videos were recorded. This series is the artist''s thirteenth project dedicated to the Alps chain, which he passionately continues to film year after year.

From a randomly drawn colour, the images slide into each other, taking with them colours and materials in their grooves as they go. Everything that happens in the image is the result of their technical peculiarity, it is by working within the video compression encoding that the images acquire this porosity.

To accompany Jacques Perconte''s first launch on Sedition, we've put together an introduction to the artist's upcoming public events, screenings and publications. Over the next few months the artist presents a retrospective in Marseilles featuring a new work, screenings of another new piece in France and Brazil, and a performance collaboration with choreographer Fabrice Lambert in theatre venues around France.

Landscapes of the Mind is a collection of five digital animation pieces by Thomas Lisle.The collection title is inspired by Lisle''s reading and research into Jungian psychology merged with research into the symbols of the unconscious.

"All the human figures are made by painting on top of a 3D model of a human, or monster. The paint strokes become the subject rather than the original character. The result is a portrait of the paint forms animated by a digital skeleton, and motion capture file, of a real person''s motion." - Thomas Lisle.

In 2021 Thomas Lisle will be presenting his work The Shadows Strategy as part of The Psychedelic Film and Music Festival, a live event in New York City. The Festival is an exploration of altered states of consciousness achieved thru psychedelics, film, music, art, virtual reality and other mediums.

Unraveling is a series of single-channel video loops. The animations were created with SARS-CoV-2 protein structures in molecular visualization software. Using the specialized features of the software in unconventional ways, Laura Splan unravels and distorts the folded structure of the coronavirus spike protein. She playfully manipulates the folded protein forms, known as "conformations", which determine biological function including infectivity. After morphing the unraveled proteins with their original conformations, she then further processes the animations using other video editing tools.

On 15 August a solo exhibition of works by Laura Splan, Unraveling, opens at BioBAT Art Space in Brooklyn, New York and runs until 12 September. Works from the Sedition collection will feature in the exhibition. The exhibition at BioBAT marks the beginning of Splan's nine month residency at the space.

M?t?ores is a body of works inspired by the cosmos and geology that probes space-time and the complexity of matter, both physical and digital.The works result from a residency in the Tablelands in Newfoundland (Canada), one of the few places where the Earth''s upper mantle is exposed. Rich in heavy metals and poor in nutrients required to sustain life, the orange barren peridotite evoke extraterrestrial landscapes. The collection of 4 looped animations shows 3D scans of these rocks that defy gravity, solidity or opacity. They are reminiscent of robotic exploration of Mars as well as some physiological and psychological effects of augmented and virtual reality, such as dizziness, disorientation and dream-like state. Each scene is a world in itself, with its own atmosphere and where the laws of physics are reinvented.

Rooting: Infrastructure is a new artwork by Fran?ois Qu?villon on Sedition. The work is launching alongside Qu?villon''s collection of video works, M?t?ores. The work invites the viewer to delve into intertwined natural and urban elements that are turned inside out and upside down. The work follows an artist residency and an exhibition that Fran?ois Qu?villon made in Mexico City at the end of 2019 for Connecting the Dots.

During November and December 2019, as part of Connecting the Dots Festival, Qu?villon took part in a residency in Mexico City in collaboration with UNAM's Instituto de Geograf?a, SOMA, Centro Cultural de Espa?a en M?xico, Centro de Cultura Digital, Fundaci?n Telef?nica M?xico and D?l?gation g?n?rale du Qu?bec ? Mexico. The residency, supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, was part of Connecting the Dots' 2019 programme, whose focus is on using art to explore links between territory, technology and society.
