February 16 to 20, 2020

Political polarization has reached a boiling point and is putting increasing pressure on the practice of democracy. Playwright Annabel Soutar (Seeds, Fredy, The Watershed, Sexy b�ton) teams up with actors Alex Ivanovici and Brett Watson to create a thrilling theatrical response to the rise of extremism and tribalism in political discourse today. This documentary play invites the left and the right to face each other in a live setting and to attempt to transcend their ideological labels through listening. Each performance invites audience members to join the stage and participate in a long table where they can engage in difficult conversations about current events that affect their communities.

Following the success of Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin: Live from Florence, a live streaming event in May from Felder's residence in Florence, Italy, which raised significant funds for theatres and arts organizations, actor, playwright, and pianist Hershey Felder is producing a second high quality streaming arts program for international audiences, to support theatres that remain closed during the Covid-19 pandemic, and beyond. The Segal Centre for Performing Arts is honoured to be the only Canadian theatre included in this endeavor. As a thank you for standing by us and supporting us through this long "intermission", we are throwing a special outdoor Broadway concert at the Segal Centre starring Nicola Dawn Brook (Kinky Boots, Mamma Mia!, Belles Soeurs) with David Terriault (Million Dollar Quartet, Children of God, Belles Soeurs) on piano!

The video will start at 7 p.m. at the same time as the concert and will not be available for viewing afterwards.

Instructions for attending in person:

Do not arrive earlier than 6:45 p.m.

Stay home if you have been in contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19, or awaiting test results, or if you have one or several of the following symptoms: fever, coughing, trouble breathing, loss of smell and/or taste, nasal discharge

A YidLife Crisis one-time-only event:
A CALL TO MONTR?AL

Watch Montreal's own "YidLife Crisis" (Jamie Elman & Eli Batalion) lift up (and lightly roast) the hometown Jewish community in this special presentation to raise spirits (halevay/g-d-willing) and remind us of the very best our city has to offer. A Call to Montr?al is a reach out to the community separated by the COVID-19 pandemic and a reminder to all about its vitality in the face of adversity, all done in classic YidLife comedic love letter fashion.

It will comprise a mix of YidLife Crisis skits and shtiks, with various musical performances paying tribute to the city. The show will be followed by a live Q&A in which the audience will have the chance to interact with Jamie and Eli.

This ticket allows you to watch the LIVE stream performance on October 22 at 7:30 p.m. EDT and/or a RECORDING of the live stream performance which will be available on-demand for 48 hours. Instructions on how to watch will be sent to ticket buyers a day before the event.

We're coming to what would have been the end of our 2019-2020 season. So I'd like to give you a brief update on the Segal Centre in this video before we take a short break from our online programming this July.

We will be taking this break to make plans for our future re-opening, so please take a few minutes to fill out the survey below. We will also be taking this time to engage in several internal conversations and consultations on how we can make the Segal Centre even more welcoming to all. We are continually working towards our long-term commitment of opening our doors to the entire population, without any discrimination.

Finally, thank you for sticking by us. Thank you to the hundreds of tickets buyers who have turned their tickets into a donation and everyone who supported us throughout this season, and to those who are with us waiting for our doors to open again. Thank you to everyone who has shown up for our online events; we see you, we feel you.

Statement regarding COVID-19

The Segal Centre is committed to the safety, health, and well-being of our staff, artists, students, patrons, and guests. As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation evolves worldwide, the Segal Centre is closely monitoring the situation and will keep you apprised of any changes.

As per the Quebec Government's declaration that all public events of over 250 people need to be cancelled, the following decisions have been made:

The rest of the run of The Times They Are a Changin'' is cancelled.
Teesri Duniya''s production of Counter Offence in the Studio will run as scheduled until further notice.
All Academy classes as of March 13th are cancelled until further notice.
The Billy Joel Experience Musical Fundraiser is postponed. More details coming soon.
Oslo and Siberian Summer will run as scheduled, until further notice.
Our Season Launch 5 ? 7 is cancelled.
The Great Rhythmobile Adventure concert for 6 to 12 year-olds is cancelled.
Broadway Super Awesome Fun Time is cancelled until further notice.

For cancelled events and performances we are keeping with our commitment to customer service and we have extended our flexible subscriber exchange policy to all ticket holders. We are happy to work with any patrons to exchange their tickets into another production or put the ticket amount on credit for future visits to the Segal Centre. Please contact the Box Office to make your arrangements.

For those visiting the Segal Centre, please rest assured that we are following recommendations from appropriate authorities, and are taking proactive steps to minimize disease transmission:

Anyone who is experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms, or who has recently travelled, or who is feeling unwell, is encouraged to stay home. This includes all staff, artists, Academy students, guests, and patrons.
We have significantly increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting in all public, backstage and office spaces beyond the standard daily schedule.
All seats, armrests, and handrails are being disinfected before and after every performance.
Hand sanitizer dispensers and disinfecting wipes have been placed throughout our venue.
Informational signs are being displayed in restrooms to promote best health practices.

Who is Caissie Levy?
Caissie stars next in her seventh Broadway production, Caroline, or Change, as Rose Stopnick Gellman. After 2 years of a successful Broadway run, on February 16th, Caissie took her last bow as Elsa, the role she originated in Disney's production of Frozen. She recreated the iconic role of Fantine in the Broadway revival of Les Mis?rables and is known to Broadway and West End audiences for originating the roles of Sheila in the Tony Award-winning revival of Hair, and Molly in Ghost, alongside Sharon D. Clark. Other Broadway credits include Wicked (also LA); Hairspray (also 1st national tour & Toronto); Rent (national tour). Off-Broadway: First Daughter''s Suite (The Public Theater); Murder Ballad (MTC). She also does extensive recording, voiceover, solo concert, and symphony work. NEW PLAY ANNOUNCEMENT

We are still hard at work on our reopening plan, and we thank you for your patience. We are proud to announce a collaboration with Th??tre du Nouveau Monde and the French Theatre of the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.

Underneath the Lintel by Glen Berger and directed by Fran?ois Girard (Director of The Red Violin) will run in French this September (titled Zebrina. Une pi?ce ? conviction in the French translation by Serge Lamothe) and in the original English at the Segal Centre this December. Starring Emmanuel Schwartz, the play follows a librarian's quest to unravel the mystery behind a book 113 years overdue.

To ensure everyone's safety, tickets to this event will be very limited with priority access given to subscribers via pre-sale.

Stay tuned as more details and ticket information for this exclusive production at the Segal Centre are still to come.

Dear subscribers and friends,

I hope this video message finds you happy and healthy.

We're coming to what would have been the end of our 2019-2020 season. So I'd like to give you a brief update on the Segal Centre in this video before we take a short break from our online programming this July.

We will be taking this break to make plans for our future re-opening, so please take a few minutes to fill out the survey below. We will also be taking this time to engage in several internal conversations and consultations on how we can make the Segal Centre even more welcoming to all. We are continually working towards our long-term commitment of opening our doors to the entire population, without any discrimination.

Finally, thank you for sticking by us. Thank you to the hundreds of tickets buyers who have turned their tickets into a donation and everyone who supported us throughout this season, and to those who are with us waiting for our doors to open again. Thank you to everyone who has shown up for our online events; we see you, we feel you.

The events of the past week have opened up an important conversation about systemic racism and violence, not just in the United States, but here in Canada. We are at a critical moment in our history. As the Segal Centre Team stands up against racism, we are postponing the following events in solidarity and to give space to the important BIPOC voices that need to be heard right now:

Broadway Happy Hour is postponed to June 13 at 5:30 p.m.
Lisa's Nightcap Episode 8: The Kids of The Hockey Sweater: A Musical Reunion is postponed to June 15 at 9 p.m.
Broadway Caf?: 10^th Anniversary Celebration livestream is postponed to June 20 at 8 p.m.

Following the success of Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin: Live from Florence, a live streaming event in May from Felder's residence in Florence, Italy, which raised significant funds for theatres and arts organizations, actor, playwright, and pianist Hershey Felder is producing a second high quality streaming arts program for international audiences, to support theatres that remain closed during the Covid-19 pandemic, and beyond. The Segal Centre for Performing Arts is honoured to be the only Canadian theatre included in this endeavor. Segal Centre audiences adored Felder''s moving production of The Pianist of Willesden Lane in the fall of 2019. This is a fabulous opportunity to enjoy a beautiful show and support the Segal Centre.
