The Self Edge Sonny Barger Lookbook, shot at Sonny's home in the Arizona desert in 2009. Sonny Barger was a co-founder of the Hells Angels, the world's most notorious motorcycle club. Eleven years later and it's crazy to think we were able to set this up and make it happen as the negotiations between us and the Hells Angels' attorney leading up to this shoot were so sticky. Even as we arrived in Arizona we weren't completely sure if it was going to happen. In the end it all worked out as we spent an entire day at Sonny's house, which is the wildest Hells Angels museum you'll ever see. We were not allowed to shoot the inside of his house, though we were able to shoot in his home gym which he set up after becoming obsessed with weightlifting during his last stint in prison. We brought him a black Iron Heart denim vest as a gift and found out a couple years later that he had added it into his daily riding uniform. Regardless of what you think of Sonny Barger, and regardless of what truths and lies have been written about him, he created a culture so wide and deep that it continues to influence biker culture, fashion, music, and everything in between to this very day.

These photos were part of our lookbook for the summer of 2009 and were also used as a series of ads on the back cover of Vice Magazine the same year.

SONNY BARGER LOOKBOOK

Big delivery this week from the oldest of the Osaka Five brands, Studio D''Artisan.

First off we have their new Kimono-Kasuri shirt. Studio D'Artisan continue to push forward in terms of bringing the most interesting fabrics to shirts and jackets. This week have a limited edition shirt made out of recreated vintage kimono designs printed with pure indigo on an original cotton fabric. Due to the number of fabric designs they''ve produced there are seven different fabric designs.

Studio D'Artisan makes some very impressive basics and every winter they do a run of heavy thermal shirts in various colors. For the winter season this year they've done a great khaki color. These are made of a super nice SDA developed 100% cotton thermal fabric and are great for wearing alone or for layering.

Along with the new thermal and short sleeve shirt we have fresh production runs of their loopwheeled t-shirts in every imaginable style. We have indigo-dyed and black flat lock seamed pocket tees, we have long staple cotton loopwheeled pocket tees, and of course we have their insanely nice Suvin Gold t-shirts available in three colors.

Poten's Winter Collection of Caps are here!

This season we see Poten doing their caps in three all new fabrics. We have a navy colored nylon, a very nice lightweight brushed poly in black, and a wild ass olive watercolor camo nylon. These hats are crazy nice, nicer than any other straight ahead baseball cap we''ve ever seen.

Every cap style has a super soft and supple inner leather headband which has been lightly treated so it's not destroyed by sweat.

The caps have zero exterior branding except for the stitches which you can see from the top of the crown from the interior branding tags being sewn into the center of the crown. The cap has a medium height crown and the brim has a medium length to it with 19 concentric stitches which feel and look pretty cool in person. If you''re into baseball caps, you''ll love what Poten is doing.

All three of these caps along with a restock of four previous models are available now at all stores and online.

One of the most anticipated releases of the year has landed. The new Roberts model from Fine Creek is produced of a tea-core dyed 1.3mm custom Himeji horsehide and comes with a cotton/wool blend liner, great for all-climate wear.  Due to the slightly thinner leather compared to some of their other horsehide jackets this model has a shorter break-in period and is more comfortable even when new.  Check the product page for a full rundown of the specs on this jacket.

These are available now at all stores and online.  As with all Fine Creek releases there will not be a restock of this jacket.

FINE CREEK HORSEHIDE JACKET - ROBERTS

We''re proud to introduce Kei Shigenaga''s line of jewelry at our stores.  This is a line of fine jewelry designed, produced, and finished by Kei Shigenaga himself.  He''s a one man show in Tokyo doing strong jewelry styles with unbelievable finishing.  Kei uses kintsugi, the Japanese art of repair, as one of his inspirations behind his designs as he uses 18k yellow gold to "repair" areas of the jewelry which look to have eroded while applying a super high polish finish to the rest of the piece.  Everything is made from beginning to end in his own Tokyo foundry and for the first time has been created in US ring sizes for Self Edge.  As with a lot of what we stock you really need to see this line in person to truly appreciate the design and finishes.

We''ve been waiting for this release all year... Sugar Cane has put together a limited edition capsule collection for their 55th anniversary using their years of knowledge of indigo dying to create some very unique garments.

As part of this collection we have a pair of jeans and a Type I denim jacket, both made of a new 14oz Japanese selvedge denim made of 30% sugar cane fiber and 70% cotton.  The warp yarns are dyed using a natural plant based green cast indigo mixed with a traditional indigo giving the denim a unique deep shade of indigo.  The hand feel of this fabric is quite special as the combination of the sugar cane fiber and the warp''s natural dye gives the denim a feel and look we''ve not seen before.  Other details include hand dyed natural indigo pocket bags, hand "painted" natural indigo dyed deerskin patches, and copper branded rivets (which will rust as they age over time).  

Along with these two items we also have a Sugar Cane developed seersucker fabric that''s yarn-dyed with pure indigo mixed with an indigo-black pigment dye to create a subdued seersucker pattern which is made into a short sleeve summer shirt.

We have a new run of Roy's jeans being released today via our online store.  These are bit more special than his previous releases and are available in two different deadstock 12oz Cone denim styles. Both models come in a classic straight leg fit with a little taper and classic medium rise.

These are unsanforized and have not been rinsed, so the measurements you see online shrink down considerably after a hot soak.   Please check the two product pages for a full run-down on the denim and details.

These jeans will go on sale online at 9am (PDT) on Monday, July 27th.

We''ve just received a large restock of 3sixteen''s recently introduced Pima cotton blank t-shirts.  After years of making some of the best tees money can buy 3sixteen has released a new version of their blank t-shirt 2-packs. These are made of an American grown Pima long staple cotton and come in a fuller fit compared to their heavyweight t-shirts. These t-shirts have a softer hand compared to the heavyweight version, are cut a little longer and fuller in the body, and have been lightly rinsed.  These tees are available in black or white and either plain or with a pocket.

We''ve also received a new run of their heavy leather belts.  These belts are made in Japan of a very nice Japanese cowhide and come with a solid brass buckle.   These are available in a wide range of sizes and in tan, brown, or black.

The Kei Shigenaga Koryu ring is here. This is Kei''s take on a "broken" (Japanese kintsugi inspired) narrow signet ring using 18k yellow gold to fill in the cracks. The Koryu may be the most complex ring Kei makes. These are not gold plated, this is a solid sterling silver ring finished by pouring liquid 18k gold into the cracks for the kintsugi effect. These are just beautiful, are finished with such high detail, and are super comfortable.

These rings go through countless hours of hand finishing and polishing to achieve the look and feel you''ll see when you put this ring on. Pretty unreal attention to detail in both the shape and oxidation points of these rings. Available now at all 5 of our stores and online.

KEI SHIGENAGA STERLING SILVER & 18K GOLD RING - KORYU

We''ve just received a very large restock of Neff Goldsmith''s entire line of sterling silver and gold jewelry.  We absolutely love jewelry and have slowly expanded our jewelry selection at our stores over the past couple of years. Neff Goldsmith is a jewelry line made by an extremely talented jeweler and master setter by the name of Chris Neff.  

Chris'' inspirations come from his deep understanding of the heritage of jewelry and vintage silversmithing.  All pieces are made in-house at his own foundry out of sterling silver with many pieces having 18k yellow gold accents.  His detail and milgrain work is unlike anything we''ve ever seen and he''s got some interesting twists on classic signet rings, band rings, pendants, and necklaces.

We've got a hot one this week from Fine Creek. The Ryan model is here and is made of what we believe to be the best horsehide in the world from Japan's famed Shinki Hikaku tannery. This 1.3mm tea-core dyed horsehide feels and looks great when new and looks unbelievable when broken in.  Fine Creek have created a completely new Shinki "recipe" for the Ryan model, we''ve never seen a Shinki horsehide which looks and feels like this.  The Ryan jacket has three zippered outer pockets and is cotton flannel lined.  These jackets were produced in black and a small run of rare brown ones made of the same Shinki horsehide.

Merz B''s winter collection just landed at all stores.  We have new loopwheeled pull-over hoodies in two colors, crewneck sweaters in three colors, and merino wool beanies in two colors.  These things are made of organic Greek cotton then loopwheeled on vintage knitting machines in Germany and finished with vintage-correct construction and trim.   The attention to detail Merz puts into their basics is impressive and we''re excited to be able to expand what we stock from them.

Introducing the Rick Owens Made in Japan denim collection from the PERFORMA FW20 season.  This Rick Owens collection is exclusive to Self Edge and is a continuation of the first capsule which was released in the fall of 2019 as part of the LARRY collection. 

As part of this capsule we have the Duke which is a new slim tapered fit which is available in a new overdyed denim and also in a black wax denim.  The straight leg Detroit model was remade in the black wax denim, which was quite popular last season, and we also have the Detroit in a traditional indigo/natural denim.  The magic is in the fits of these jeans, the Duke is a perfect slim tapered jean and the Detroit is easily one of the best fitting jeans we''ve ever carried at our stores.  

Next up we have the Worker Jacket which is Rick''s take on a modified Type III denim jacket, this is done in a 13.75oz overdyed denim with hand pockets.  The overdyed process really make this jacket shine with the squared off pockets and stitch angles looking quite strong due to the DARK DUST constructional thread peaking through the black overdye.

Lastly we have the Outershirt, this is a black wax denim oversized shirt which can be worn as an overshirt or a denim jacket and comes with zippered inner pockets and traditional buttoned flap chest workshirt pockets.

Garment dyed everything from 3sixteen!  We have new shop jackets and pocket tees, both garment dyed in two different colors.  

The shop jackets are so good, they really nailed the fabric treatment on these things.  These started out as a deadstock 100% cotton military back satin fabric which was then garment dyed in two colors followed by a heavy rinse to give the jackets a soft hand.  These are available in French Blue or Smoke.

We also have their blank pocket tees which have been garment dyed in two colors for a unique looking blank tee.  These are available in Dark Smoke or Ash.

After an 18 month company restructuring Flat Head is back in business and will continue producing product starting this fall/winter season. We have new production runs of the best wallet on the planet, aka the Wild Child cowhide and shell cordovan wallets, leather belts with forged steel buckles, shell cordovan folding wallets, leather bracelets, and sterling silver feather rings.

We''re happy we finally have these Wild Child wallets back in stock. Over the years this has turned into the most sought after wallet we carry. They're super functional, age like nothing else you've seen, and last a lifetime. These are made of Shinki shell cordovan, cowhide, have an inner pigskin lining, and come with a sterling silver ring.

Flat Head''s heavy leather belts come with a custom forged nickel-plated steel buckle and are available in tan or black.

The feather rings are made of .925 sterling silver and are hand finished. These come in one size and can be (carefully) bent into your ring size for a perfect fit.

We''ve also received some very nice Shinki shell cordovan folding wallets and their leather and sterling silver bracelets in all styles and colors.

They''re available in either a 13oz black warp and black weft denim or a 14oz Okinawa sugar cane fiber blend indigo denim, both unsanforized (but lightly rinsed) for maximum texture and character. Both jeans come with black anodized wreath buttons, hidden rivets, super fancy variable weave density pocket bags, and a very pleasing straight tapered fit with a medium rise.
