Here''s wishing our winemaking partners and friends south of the border a healthy, safe, and comforting American Thanksgiving.

To say we are navigating uncertain waters is an understatement. As we have had a chance to reflect?during our own Canadian Thanksgiving weekend in October, our thoughts are now extended to the challenges faced in the USA, the least of which is the seemingly endless wildfire season in California wine country.

Our west coast colleagues are staring down the barrel of a problem we have all had a hand in creating, so let''s show our support this American long weekend and drink the fruits of their labour.

It''s Summertime | It''s Picnic Time

You know we have the wine and yes we have the view, but now we have delicious Italian-esque picnic boxes prepared by Ascari to make for a responsible, self-serve Al Fresco experience on the Stratus Vineyard Terrace.

A Baker's Dozen to Your Front Porch

A time like no other, a world we couldn't have imagined even a month ago, a world brought to it's knees in a heartbeat.

It will stand up again, humbled, perhaps a little sore, perhaps with a different pecking order in place, and without question, heart-wrenching pain for the loss of loved ones. Humanity will adapt, new normals will fall into place, old indulgent ones hopefully fall out of place. This is our time, to literally clear the air, let the goats roam down the high streets, and the coyotes to run free in urban parks. This is the time we don''t let the trivial get under our skin and make what really matters a priority.

So, wherever you are while our world stands still and our frontline community fights the fire, know that there has never been a better reason for a glass of Riesling.I hope.

My fascination with this crisis is that we are seeing writ large the old saying - necessity is the mother of invention-bursting to life in every corner of the world.

Here in Canada re-tooling is happening everywhere as protective equipment and vital machines have to be made. The gig economy is giving drivers more business than they could ever imagine dropping deliveries at almost every single address. Musicians are playing together live on-line to fans everywhere. Grocery stores can't hire fast enough and politicians here at home are stepping up and giving us the straight goods as dire as they may be and confidence that if we all truly work together, we can somehow scrape through.

This is not to say that vast swaths of workers, in my world, hospitality in particular, comes to mind first, are out of work, helpless to do anything but wait, living off vastly reduced incomes. Not all is rosy even if I am trying to paint that picture.

But I digress.

Did you know that we winemakers, import agents, restaurants and bars providing take-out service, can all deliver wine to your door?

Well, we can and since it has been years since I have sent you a long rambling report from my crush-pad of life, I thought now is the time! This is the moment CB, seize it. Tell them who you are again and remind them to go to their local hardware store for essentials, to support family owned grocery stores, to tip a little more if we can, maybe even bring something that doesn't really need to be cleaned to your local dry cleaners because their business has all but dried up. After all, sweatpants and t-shirts are the new attire at work.in your basement.

	2016 Charles Baker Riesling VQA Vinemount Ridge | $37 In 2005 I forged a relationship with the owner of an amazing vineyard at the summit of the Niagara Escarpment in Vineland. Mark Picone's tidy modest planting of Riesling is a jewel in Canada and I have been so honoured to work with it ever since. The wine we bottle swings a big bat I tell you. Every vintage in bottle is still showing up for the dance, perhaps one or two with a walker but all have stories as they pass through your lips. The 2016 which you can ORDER HERE FOR GOODNESS SAKE hails from a warm, long, bountiful growing season. The wine has class, it has depth and it has also won CANADIAN WINE OF THE YEAR at the Canadian Culinary Championships also known as the Great Canadian Kitchen Party. 	2017 Charles Baker Riesling VQA Twenty Mile Bench | $27 Drop down the hill from the Picone vineyard and you fall smack into the middle of Bob Nedelko's IVAN vineyard, a gorgeous hillside hugging mixed planting where since 2010 I have been able to bring his Riesling to bottle. Not the depth of Picone but certainly the class. It has more traditional fruitiness of the benchlands and crazy eye-pearcing acid. The 2017 is a lovely wine you will see. Buy Now
	2018 Charles Baker Riesling B-Side VQA Niagara Escarpment | $22 Take the young vines (almost all 20 years old) from these vineyards, keep the fruit separate at the winery, ferment, bottle and cast it out into the wilds with no bottle age and no hesitation and you have the B-Side, the other one, the easy fun guest at a party, the surprise hit you had no idea was on the flip-side. This one doesn't go back in the fridge unless you like taking up space with empty bottles. Buy Now

1. Prosecco Bubbles from Sorella Bronca, the Bronca sisters, in northern Italy. Estate Grown and of a higher quality not usually found under $20
2. White wine from the precious Luigi Baudana estate. Dragon White refers to the next generation of the Vajra family. Giuseppe, Francesca, and Isodoro are the apples in their Mother''s eye! A refreshing, yet interesting blend of Chardonnay, Sauvigonon Blanc, and the rarely seen Nascetta grape indigenous to this area.
3. A crackling savoury Sangiovese from the Chianti Region at the historic estate of Bindi i Sergardi. A red wine with depth that never went near an oak barrel. It is quintessential Tuscany in a bottle from a winery run by...Mothers!
