Today we''re asking for your support in helping to keep your favorite independent music venues from permanently closing. The good news? It only takes a minute of your time (and no money).
All you need to do is click the link below and fill out the form urging your local representative to support the Save Our Stages and Restart Acts, which could provide much-needed relief to venues like ours and the many people out there who work in the live-music industry. For more information, please see the statement below from NYIVA (New York Independent Venue Association).
We thank you for your support and we look forward to the day we are able to host live events again in our beloved space!

From NYIVA:
We are asking for our congresspeople and our community to support two bills that could save our industry: Save Our Stages Act and Restart Act, two bills that have been introduced and can ensure the survival of independent venues across the nation.
Over 150 Independent venues in New York City have come together to form the New York Independent Venue Association in affiliation with the newly formed National Independent Venue Association. On August 4th, we will be calling for a day of action to seek support for our current very pressing issues.
Music venues were the first to close and we will be the last to re-open. Most venues are at risk of going out of business if nothing is done.
On average, a venue will need $300,000 to sustain itself if they are to remain closed until 2021. ( $60 million for the industry in aggregate)
On average, a NY venue already has $150,000 their landlord could claim in arrears and more than 80% of venues have no definitive arrangement with their landlords.
Live streaming has yet to become a viable source of revenue. The average NY venue's monthly profit from F&B, live streams, and merchandise comes out to $375 (after labor and cost of goods).
We are disastrously close to losing NY's cultural lifeblood. Nationally, over 1.5 million live music lovers have written letters to their elected officials via SaveOurStages.com, but it's not enough. Our voices are powerful and we must ensure our elected officials realize that no action will result in the forfeiture of NY's cultural identity.
ABOUT NIVA: Formed at the onset of the COVID-19 shutdown, the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA), now represents more than 2,000 members in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. These independent venues and promoters were the first to close and will be the last to fully reopen. NIVA's mission is to preserve and nurture the ecosystem of independent live music venues, promoters and festivals throughout the United States.

Looking Forward on Our 7th Anniversary...
SubCulture''s stage: Grand Opening, September 16, 2013
Dear SubCulture Friends,
It''s hard to believe, but today marks the 7th anniversary of SubCulture''s official grand opening. Obviously, this is a bittersweet occasion for us. On one hand, we can''t celebrate it in the way that we normally would - all of us together in the venue toasting one another, sharing the moment with our loyal patrons and supporters as some of our favorite musicians take to the stage for an unforgettable performance. On the other hand, we''re still here. And right now, that feels like a victory in itself.
But SubCulture''s survival, without the ability to open up to the public, is a daily concern for us. Part of the reason that we''re still here is due to the generous donations of our supporters (particularly in the early days of the pandemic). Because of your generosity, we''ve been able to not only stay afloat, but also move forward in these ways:
We have continued to pay benefits for staff members.
We have invested in our infrastructure to reopen under strict safety guidelines.
We have begun filming a new Jason Robert Brown performance to be released shortly (you''re going to love it!).
We have continued to connect with our community and made a commitment to social justice issues, including the Black Lives Matter protests.
We have also participated with NIVA/NYIVA and Save our Stages to get Congress to pass emergency funding to help the entire live performance industry. That funding is desperately needed, but until it passes (IF it does), the continued support of our patrons can help us keep the lights on. Our hope is to make it through to the other side of this so that we can re-open our doors to the public and do what we do best. THAT''S the celebration we''re looking forward to - the one that we can share with all of you, in our beloved space.
Thank you for your continued support,
Marc and the SubCulture Team

"Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced." - James Baldwin
From our March 12, 2018 concert, the extraordinary NaTASHA YVETTE WILLIAMS sings "Hope," accompanied by Jason Robert Brown.
We stand in solidarity with the Black community and stand up against inequality, injustice and systemic racism. We acknowledge the work we have to do in our own organization, the privileges we hold, and will continue to be a part of the solution within our industry and the broader community.
Today SubCulture and the Jason Robert Brown Residency donated to the following organizations:
The Anti-Racism Project The NAACP Color of Change
Black Lives Matter today and every day.
