Many European regions and countries have worked intensively developing their cluster policies. With the growing support from cluster strategies and policies many European clusters have flourished and developed to advanced levels. Today, strong European clusters are frontrunners on innovation, globalization, sustainability, upskilling, upscaling and business support. The TCI Policy Workshop digs deeper to understand how policy frameworks have helped with this development and how to strengthen cluster policies looking ahead.

The TCI Policy Workshop will have a co-creating format filled with interesting presentations, open discussions on policy models including regional contributions like the Basque cluster trajectory. The ambition with the workshop is to summarize core learnings to a tool on cluster policy development to share with our global TCI community.

At the TCI Policy Workshop you can

+ New workshop TCI Cluster Evaluation Working Group, EoI open

On 27-28 April 2020 the TCI Cluster Evaluation Working Group will meet in Milan, IT, hosted by the Lombardy Region. The workshop will focus on discussing how to help focus investment for best return and ensure dynamism in a regional cluster portfolio and will delve into the topic of evidencing the wider impact of clusters. Express your interest to participate until March 6, and we will keep you posted on the 2-day workshop development.

MOC-TCI Asia Chapter Conference 2020

July 6-7, 14.00h UB (check your local time here)

Hosted by the National University of Mongolia, the members from the two networks, MOC and TCI Asia will gather in this virtual conference to explore how the new normal is shaping and exchange experiences on how Asian clusters and innovation ecosystems are fast adapting to it.

On the first day, July 6, the members of the MOC Asia Network will share the conceptual frameworks of clustering and the new normal throughout Asia, including among others country cases from Mongolia and Taiwan, and tackling the new challenges around online teaching.

The second day, July 7, at the TCI Asia webinar, we will showcase how global clusters are working in practice in times of coronavirus and adapting to the new normal, with a focus on rethinking the existing cluster development models and global trends. We will showcase global cases and stories from Asian members, of how clusters and economic development organisations are making a difference in the path to economic recovery.

New e-book ready to download: "Towards a Greener New Normal - How Clusters are Dealing with Circular Transition in Times of COVID-19".

Written by Kaspar Nielsen, Head of Development, Cluster Excellence Denmark and Merete Daniel Nielsen, Director, Cluster Excellence Denmark & President, TCI Network with valuable inputs from Dr. Oliver Zieglerand, Senior Project Manager, European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis (ESCA).
The publication is developed in collaboration between Cluster Excellence Denmark, TCI Network, Enterprise Europe Network as part of Circular PP Project. It includes results from a survey sent out to TCI members in September 2020.

Across the world, cluster organisations have - despite the hardship of the current crisis - taken a leading role as front- runners in the green transition.

Based on new intelligence and inspiring cases from clusters around the world, this e-book outlines how cluster organisations are accelerating the green transition in times of COVID-19 by supporting circular activities and services targeted companies and eco-systems in new ways.

This publication takes a deep dive showing how clusters are moving fast to push and lead for circular transition. 600+ Latin American cluster professionals from 21 countries joined the CLAC 2020, the 12^th TCI Latin American Conference and evidenced how cluster strategies are becoming engines for reactivation in Latin America. +?Results of the Global Survey on ?sector-specific impact of COVID-19

In April we invited all TCI members managing a cluster organisation/business network to participate in this Global Survey, a joint undertaking by TCI Network and VDI/VDE Innovation. We thank each of the 67 clusters representing 6,500 businesses who contributed to the survey. The results helped us to shift the debate within the global cluster community about the relevant role of professional cluster management in successfully support the industry to ramp up at the end of the lockdown and on the way to re-start our economies. Evidencing the Wider Impact of Clusters
How to capture the system level impacts of clusters in regions?
How to show the value of clusters beyond economic competitiveness?



This is an open invitation to participate and contribute to the TCI Cluster Evaluation Working Group online workshop, April 27, 15.00-17.00 CEST (check your local time here).

A group of TCI members gathers regularly at the TCI Cluster Evaluation Working Group to discuss about the challenges of cluster evaluation, seeking to develop overall frameworks and share different techniques to show the value of collaboration and return of investment. The learnings from the group help TCI members to design and run their own monitoring and evaluation, and to evidence the impact of clusters inside and outside their cluster ecosystem.

The focus of the next virtual workshop will be "Evidencing the Wider Impact of Clusters", exploring how policy makers and practitioners are capturing the system level impacts in regions, and showing the value of clusters beyond economic competitiveness. Clusters are increasingly being asked to contribute not only to the economic performance of their sector and region, but also to play a role in transforming their territories across many aspects beyond purely financial measures, including shared value approaches, contributing to SDGs, playing a role in Smart Specialisation Strategies or other National Performance Frameworks.

During the workshop, presenters from Catalonia (Spain), Sweden and Lombardy (Italy) will share their experience, describing how they are approaching this challenge. And also participants in the workshop will have the opportunity to share experiences and develop knowledge.

We are very proud of what we have achieved in this year.

We brought the best of the TCI Network in different virtual formats to support people and organisations working in clusters and innovation ecosystems, to drive effective support and to integrate it into economic recovery efforts in very challenging times.

2.800 economic development practitioners from 61 countries participating in our 17 online events and 6.000 followers in social media, could get informed and inspired through timely expert analysis, group reflection and living cluster cases.

A big thanks to the 400+ TCI members, who stayed connected and always ready to share, interact and learn with others. Together we will keep on moving the cluster agenda forward and we hope that it won't be long before we have the opportunity to meet again in person.?
