Bonberi Green Smoothie

Makes 32 ounces / serves 2-4

-1 cup of chopped very ripe bananas frozen

-1 firmly packed cup of chopped kale or baby kale

-1 firmly packed cup of baby spinach

-2 cups of coconut water

-1 fuji apple, cored, not peeled

-2 large stalks celery

-1 cup of chopped frozen mango

-1 handful or 1/4 cup of fresh mint leaves

As Mother''s Day quickly approaches it certainly brings up mixed feelings as many of us aren''t able to spend the day with our own moms or those loving women in our lives who fill that special role. we haven''t done a good enough job. we are ready to make a change. we vow to do better than we did yesterday and will continue on that path. we will take action to stand in solidarity with the protestors and organizations that promote racial equality and combat police brutality. biases run deep and we need to unlearn the racism that has caused so much hurt. here are the immediate actions we will take, ones that we are committed to building upon in the weeks, months and years to come:

• support: we will amplify the voices of black owned beauty and wellness businesses on our own platforms and represent these businesses on our shelves.

• listen: once we are able to re-hire our diverse staff, we will engage in new ways to have open forums and discussions to prevent any type of discrimination or racism in the workplace.

Over the last several weeks, we listened to the dialogue. We worked behind the scenes to develop solutions to uplift the Black community within the nail space so we can play an active part in making it inclusive and safe for all. We understand that actions are more important than words, so we want to say less and do more.

We took a more in-depth look at tenoverten and recognized we can do more. Our brand lacked representation of the diverse nail community. We realized that we weren''t doing enough to uplift Black and POC voices. We acknowledges that we weren''t investing in upcoming nail techs and supporters of our brand.

We''re going to take this opportunity to help the community by providing tools and resources that will help others find success in an industry we love so much. We will move forward with a plan that addresses the deep-rooted problems that affected tenoverten and many others.

OUR LONG TERM COMMITMENT

• Affiliate Program: We will launch an affiliate program that directly invests money into content creators'' pockets and provides members with tools that enable them to be successful. We commit to including Black/POC content creators and Black/POC nail techs in this program before opening up to the public. Keep an eye out for more info over the next few days on our IG feed.?

• Content and Diversity: Represent the diverse nail community within our content - representation matters. You can expect to see this rolling out immediately and for it to last. Work with Black talent, including models, nail techs, photographers, and more. Share equity of our social channels in a weekly spotlight series dedicated to uplift Black voices on a wide variety of subjects, including what''s happening in the nail community.??

• Behind The Scenes: We will implement stops and checks such as - is our corporate team, social media feeds, etc diverse? Continue to partner with our HR advisor on our policy reform as we open our salons slowly, ensuring everything is done right. Hold ourselves and our customers accountable for their actions through a zero-tolerance anti-racist and anti-discrimination policy.

• What You Can Expect From Us Now: Step one of our commitment focuses on uplifting content creators and nail techs by dedicating our time, money, and platform to their talent. Please let us know (by responding to this email) if you have any favorite Black creator social accounts, Black nail techs, and Black-owned brands that you want us to feature.

This is a difficult letter to write - one that we''ve written and re-written many times over the course of the past few weeks.

We come forward after many days of silence with full humility and transparency, ready to hold ourselves accountable for changing the toxic policies we upheld. We are committed to doing the work and acknowledge the opportunity for change and transformation.

We will never fully understand the experience of a Black woman, let alone of a Black woman working in the service industry oftentimes catering to privileged white women. Too often we catered to customers and their needs when in reality we got it all wrong and should have been more focused on protecting our employees first. Our inaction hurt many people over the years and we are here to make a change. From this point on, we will equip ourselves with the resources to emerge from this with new policies in place to set our employees up for success and to ensure they are truly heard going forward.

We are forging ahead with a focus on a culture of accountability. We'll be holding our employees, our customers, and ourselves accountable for the interactions that happen in our salons. Below is an outline of our preliminary steps that we will be expanding on in the coming weeks:

. We have brought on a Human Resource consultant to implement policy reform and a true Equal Opportunity Workplace culture. The HR consultant will be an ally to our employees by serving as a completely safe and unbiased resource.

. We will institute a social contract for all customers explaining what is expected of them during their time in our salons.

. As we are able to re-hire a team of employees, we will have an employee handbook and contract that outlines explicit anti-racism and anti-discrimination guidelines supported by ongoing, frequent training for all employees. We will participate in all training courses beside our team.

This plan is the first stage of creating an inclusive working environment once we are able to hopefully re-open some of our salons post pandemic. This is a work in progress and we don't have all the answers, but we are committed to the work and hope you will support us on the journey. Our mission has always been focused on being non-toxic and providing better-for-you nail services, but we've got to do better than that. Below is a new mission statement for tenoverten that has re-inspired us. We hope it resonates with all of you:

We recognize that being an ethical and environmentally-conscious company includes racial justice, and we will work to reflect these ideals in our practices in the workplace.
