How did The Endery start?

Working in Peru, in textiles and slow fashion productions is no easy feat. Along with the passion required for working with artisans, comes a lot of patience and dedication. It takes years to cultivate contacts, earn people''s trust, and also understand the culture surrounding "handmade" as well as knitting at large.

Both of us - Kelly and Ellen - had lived in Peru for years, working on large scale knitwear productions, before our paths crossed. Our common stories really brought us together: we''d both lived outside of our respective countries (US and UK) since we were 21, and were used to navigating some equally tough and life affirming foreign experiences. We also shared a passion for human rights and working with those who are too often marginalized from society.

Being behind the scenes of knitwear manufacturing meant we saw leftover production materials happen in real time. Alarming amounts of high quality materials pile up year after year. It really made us reflect. In this little space, we were uniquely positioned to do something - to make this scenario look really different. And much more circular.

So The Endery was born:
An innovative project tasked with repurposing fashion "waste" into something long-lasting and meaningful. Beautiful and serendipitous.??

The world doesn''t need more brands, but it does need more creatives who aspire to find solutions to waste.

The Endery X The Knit Edit Waste Not cardigan

You spoke and we listened. For months, we''ve received requests for a knitting pattern so you can try your hand at creating an Endery-inspired sweater. It''s finally here and ready to download, available in sizes XS to 4 XL.

The ''waste not'' cardigan is a oversized, long cardigan made from any kind of yarn - aran, chunky, DK options are all included in this multi-colored technique, but the pattern has been created with aim to be flexible to what you have at home! The technique for how to color block and blend these colors is included in the pattern, and this marbling technique is unique to the The Knit Edit and she reveals her secret method inside.

We''re thinking a lot about the people who make our clothes. We consider ourselves lucky to be very close to the beating heart of our productions and we know our knitters very well. We believe that fashion can't consider itself sustainable until the workers throughout its supply chain are taken into consideration. We''ve enjoyed reading this article from Vogue and different founders experiences on moving forwards on sustainability, racism, and mistreatment of workers in fashion supply chains.

Celebrating Designer Lindsay Degen and her work with Converse and inclusive sizing

We are fans of cutting edge, innovative and we are always interested to see large brands working in new ways.

Our pal Lindsay Degen lead a new project with Converse about inclusive sizing and gender-fluid clothing. We love seeing new approaches to sizing - see how she did it here in the video here.

FEMALE FOUNDED FAVORITE - THE FAR WOODS

The Far Woods is Portland-based sisters Nina and Sonya Montenegro. They create educational artwork that seeks to contribute to a great culture shift in which there is a reverence for nature, a rejection of the dominant throw-away mentality, and direct connection to where our food and the things we use come from.

We cannot get enough of their prints, which has been designed from a place of unity, community and inclusivity. Check out their latest fanzine here, called ''Worry Medicine: A companion for troubled times''.

Our sustainable tip this week is to get mending and follow in the footsteps of these amazing artists.

However, after developing the Deadstock Darning Mending Kit and having the limited run quickly sell out, we knew we were onto something. We we blown away by the story about the oldest man in Australia and his knitting habits. 109-year-old Alfie Date is a keen knitter, and has been knitting since 1935 when he started the hobby for his nephew. His most recent project was to knit tiny sweaters for penguins recovering from an oil spill in Australia. These endangered ''tiny'' penguins can damage themselves from poisoning when they clean oil from their feathers. So, Alfie knit them the most adorable tiny sweaters for protection, and earned himself the title ''most senior little penguin jumper knitter'' in the process.

We''re thinking a lot about the power of color in the news this week from Poland. After President Andrzej Duda of Poland was sworn in to office for a second term, the opposition party, wore dresses, shirts, and pants suits in the colors of the rainbow, along with coordinating masks, to show solidarity with Poland's LGBTQ+ community. The impact and meaning behind this image was phenomenal, especially considering how this marginalised community have been vilified and discriminated against. We love how these politicians are using their clothing to protest against acts of hatred and homophobia.

Alpaca Is Back

Alpaca was our original collection and we're excited to be bringing it back! In fact, we''re reviving the first knit we ever created, the Everywhere Scarf. The color-blocked design gave us the chance to get comfortable with being brave with colors and designing with deadstock.

The 2nd Edition of the Everywhere Scarf features a fresh and unruly color palette with the same generous length, ribbed style, and ultra-soft comfort of alpaca wool.

We''re also excited about The Remainder Sweater Vest, using up remainders of yarns and helping you pull together your look effortlessly.

These lovely knits will be shipping out January 12th, just in time to get you through the winter!

The Endery's latest collaboration is a partnership with our dear friend, Lindsay Degen! Much like The Endery, Lindsay's namesake label, DEGEN, focuses on creating products in ways that are ethical and sustainable.

With vibrant designs gracing apparel, homewares and more, Lindsay has channeled her unique style into a powerhouse indie brand. Lindsay has designed a capsule collection with The Endery using 100% deadstock cotton, produced by our artisan workshop, Green Design Link.
