 GBI is excited to announce that Green Globes for Existing Buildings 2019 BETA is being piloted! Green Globes for Existing Buildings 2019 reflects a decade of lessons learned assessing buildings in operation for performance excellence as well as market developments, including content as applicable from GBI's published? ANSI/GBI 01-2019: Green Globes Assessment Protocol for Commercial Buildings. Green Globes EB 2019 addresses ultimate performance goals for all types of existing buildings and includes new and/or expanded sections on Energy and Water Performance, Resilience, Health and Wellness, Filtration and Ventilation, Cycle Renovations, Environmental Purchasing, Recycling & Waste, a new Site assessment area, and many other updates making it one of the most advanced assessments in the market.
Discounts are available for certain building types.

Join the EB2019 Consensus Body
Simultaneous to the Green Globes EB 2019 pilot, GBI is seating a consensus body to review future public input on the revised rating system to eventually issue it as a "pre-draft" and then "draft" Standard following GBI's ANSI-approved consensus procedures.

FIVE IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT GREEN GLOBES
|
|
If you are unfamiliar with GBI''s Green Globes building certification system or are talking to a client who has not completed a Green Globes project yet, here are the top five ways Green Globes sets itself apart from other certification programs.
- No prerequisites - Green Globes criteria is weighted based on environmental impact, thus, prerequisites are not necessary for certification. Prerequisites can exclude projects from green building assessments. Green Globes encourages participation for all project types and rewards projects for substantial sustainability features.
- Collaborative - A dedicated GBI Project Manager is assigned to each Green Globes assessment. Your GBI Project Manager will guide you through the assessment process, facilitate communication with your assessor, issue reports, and answer any questions you may have. Your third-party Green Globes assessor is available to answer any questions and provide recommendations. The collaborative Green Globes process ensures you are always supported through certification.
- Non-applicable provisions - Green Globes rewards projects for sustainability initiatives that are applicable and feasible, rather than penalizing for criteria that do not apply. The Non-applicable provision reduces the total number of applicable points, which increases the point weight of criteria that are relevant to the project. The non-applicable feature allows all types of projects to participate in Green Globes certification.
- Transparent assessment process - The scoring feature on the Green Globes online questionnaire updates as you progress through the assessment. A Green Globes for New Construction Design Review Report includes a projected Green Globes score and rating, identifies outstanding items and includes recommendations for improvement. You'll never feel in the dark about where your project stands*.
- Scientific, transparent, & consensus driven program - The Green Globes for New Construction program was built by experts and with public input through an American National Standard Institute (ANSI) audited consensus process. Continuous maintenance to the standard allows updates to be made as necessary in a timely manner.
*All GBI membership levels include access to a sample questionnaire which can be completed and used for bidding on projects.

Spanning 13 four-story buildings, Loreto & Palacio offer Las Vegas residents 739 contemporary apartment units and lush community amenities. GBI member GRN Vision oversaw the project and helped the management company apply the State of Nevada's tax abatement incentives for using Green Globes certification. Because the tax abatement percentage increases in correlation with the number of Globes received, the Three Green Globes this project earned resulted in a $10,000 per year savings for the next five years.

Over the past decade, student enrollment at University of North Carolina (UNC) Charlotte jumped by 10,000 students. Last year, the campus added a new 148,000-square-foot University Recreation Center to meet student needs for physical activity, play and stress relief. This project also helped the university meet the sustainability goals they set out to achieve.
