Jane Rockett and Lucy St George met as young mums in the early noughties. Back then, Lucy was working in retail while Jane was in marketing, having studied photography. But what really united them, beyond their young children of course, was a shared love of interiors. Spending the first three years of their friendship rearranging one another's furniture, they eventually came to the realisation that, in a world of beige understatement, their uniting maximalism and onus on quirky fun could be the starting point for a business.

Both had dabbled in buying and selling via eBay and as part of a consortium. It seemed, then, like serendipitous moment to pool their resources. They bought a copy of Building a Website for Dummies, began to collect things they loved to sell, and soon found that what they amassed had outgrown their garages. Today, Rockett St George, their eponymous online store, has six warehouses in Sussex and a concession in Liberty.

We - along with the aesthetic cognoscenti - love their eccentricity, their irreverence and the offbeat details of everything they stock, as well as the glut of inspiration that can be found on their Insta feed. We're far from alone, as attested by their lavishly beautiful and best-selling interiors books, Extraordinary Interiors and its follow-up, Extraordinary Interiors In Colour and their legions of devoted fans. Here they tell us how they've survived in lockdown (a clue: thank you Zoom) and why life without an iPhone is now an unthinkable idea.

Artist, Alison Jackson has carved out a stellar career thanks to her attention-grabbing images which explore celebrity culture. Her clever, witty and sometimes shocking images are precision-aimed to make the viewer do a double-take. It was while a student at the world-famous Royal College of Art that her career kicked off in earnest with a single furore-stirring image: it depicted lookalikes of Diana and Dodi al Fayed with 'their' baby. Since it was 1999, just two years after the couple's fatal car crash in Paris, it was, perhaps, inevitable that a national controversy would ensue. As she said, 'I started making work about Diana as a national icon at the time of her death. Millions mourned her through her image. Most of them did not know her in person; they only 'knew' her through the media stories, images of her and TV. I thought I would make images of her, using a lookalike, to explore our perception of her and our fantasies about her love life.'

Yet far from being chastened by the stir it caused, it spurred her on and she has, ever since, tirelessly created works that delve into the world of celebrity, with the subject usually engaged in the banal, the shocking or the scandalous. The royal family, presidents, Hollywood A-listers, footballers, pop starlets; no one is safe from her probing gaze. Yet, while the camera may be trained upon these extremely familiar faces - and her lookalikes really are uncanny - the real subject is the audience. Why are we so obsessed with celebrity, why do we think we know these people and what makes us wish to?

This era of 'fake news' is a particular gift to Jackson. She is, after all, a master and trailblazer of the manipulated image, in her case created to ask questions about the way we consume information and, indeed, other people's lives. Since media manipulation has now gone mainstream, the raw materials for her exploration are endless; she is, as she tells us, currently working on an augmented reality project.

Here, Jackson, who won a BAFTA for her BBC 2 series Doubletake, talks about what she gets up to online.

Guy Oliver is the owner and Managing Director of leading international design company Oliver Laws, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. The firm is known for the restoration and redecoration of the state rooms at 10 Downing Street as well as the refurbishment of London's Connaught Hotel and Claridge's.

Having first been a Royal Naval Officer, Guy cut his design teeth at Colefax and Fowler before taking over Oliver Laws - then known as David Laws - in 2002. Since then, he has worked alongside Andre Balazs, created Michelin starred restaurants, private homes, aircraft and yachts as well as designing exhibitions at the Louvre, The Chateau de Versailles and Clarence House. He has recently completed the redesign and refurbishment of Ireland's most iconic hotel, The Shelbourne.

A true modern day multi-hyphenate, Exeter-based blogger-turned-author, Sarah Turner - or the 'Unmumsy Mum' as she is known to her 408k-strong Instagram followers - has created a digital career, first through her blog and later via social media. And yet, refreshingly, she has done so without ever adopting the filter that glosses over the reality of living through a house renovation with three young boys in tow. What is 'a chap'? More to the point, what is The Chap? Debonair man-about-town Gustav Temple suggests that the first designation is somewhat in the eye of the beholder, but that it might combine close attention to sartorial detail, a witty and slightly offbeat attitude towards life and erudition worn lightly. All of these can be found in his jauntily irreverent magazine, which he founded in 1999 and continues to edit and publish today. It celebrated its hundredth issue last year (naturally featuring Chap hero Terry-Thomas as its cover star) and continues to attract a fervent group of international fans - including none other than Alec Baldwin. Temple was both flattered and faintly perplexed to be contacted by Baldwin's PA while the great man was filming in Belfast. It transpired that he had read about a tailor in the previous issue and wished to pay him a visit.

When he's not assisting Hollywood royalty with their enquiries, Temple divides his time between London and East Sussex, where he lives with his children. Something of a one-man band when it comes to his title, with hix high-profile regular contributors who include Mr B the Gentleman Rhymer and wine expert Olly Smith, he has managed to make himself the centre of a coterie of like-minded eccentrics whose wit and wisdom is only matched by the very sharpest of suits.

While Gustav, in Chap guise, is to be found on all the usual forms of social media, and his online emporium is one of the internet's most diverting places to browse, he has a healthily sceptical attitude towards what he sees as the flim-flammery of the web. He tells us about why he's not a fan of ebooks, his love of Ubers and the best digital advice he's ever received.

Claire Thomson is almost always found in an apron. Between her capacity as a chef, cookery writer and mother of three daughters, and with her deep and abiding love of food thrown into the mix, there rarely seems much reason to take it off. Food and travel are, as she puts it, what 'make her world go around.'

Born and raised in Zimbabwe, then London and Shropshire, she's travelled extensively and cooked all over the globe. That harnessing of ideas - usually vegetable based - has since transpired to similarly excite others too. As such, she has garnered a legion of followers through her cookery column in The Telegraph and via her ever popular Instagram account @5oclockapron, which though always great, came dazzlingly into its own during lockdown.

Claire also has five beautiful cookery books under her perma-tied apron strings. Her latest is Home Cookery Year, the biggest and most gorgeous yet. As she observes, 'The title is an especially prescient one, given that it's 2020 and we've all spent so much of this year cooking from home. I finished the edit on this book just as the UK went into total lockdown back in March, thinking to myself, well this might last a couple of weeks, a month perhaps. Quite apart from hoping this becomes a cookbook of our time, Home Cookery Year sets a benchmark for how I cook, week in, week out: a bit like a chef, a bit like a food writer and a bit like a working parent juggling all the usual.'

If you fancy a taster of Home Cookery Year, Claire shares her mouth-watering recipe for Green Apple, Thai Basil & Smoked Tofu with Shallots & Bird's Eye Chilli. But first, she tells us how clay modelling via Instagram and her trusty KitchenAid got her and the family through the first lockdown proper and why, thanks to the wonders of IGTV, the family hamster, Captain, is now star in his own right.

Australian-born Donna Ida is, quite simply, the 'Queen of Jeans'. Having moved to London in 1999 to follow a career in marketing, she spotted a gap in the market after she realised that her search for a great pair of jeans had been endless and, ultimately, fruitless. When a friend suggested that she launch her own denim-based fashion label, she took up the challenge with alacrity, pouring everything of herself straight into it.

And so it was that her eponymous brand was born in 2006 when she opened her first store in Chelsea. In those nascent days, it drew then, as now, on her family and friends - chief amongst them her grandmother, who was well known for her style in rural Australia and whose legacy inspired the very first collection.

Today, she continues to design with an eclectic group of friends in mind, thus catering to and flattering all body shapes. In her team are Ivy ('the leggy one'), Rizzo ('girl about town') and Jeanie ('the conservative one'), and her 'girl squad', as she terms it, expands with every new collection. The idea, at its core, is to help every woman, regardless of shape or age, to find that elusive thing: the perfect pair of jeans.

Stocking one of the best denims edits anywhere - brands like Current/ Elliot sit alongside Ida, her own label - Donna Ida proves the versatility of denim again and again; simply, it is worn by anyone and everyone, from the rural hardworking labourers who wore it first, right through to world leaders today. It can stand for rebellion (as it once did when it was worn by the likes of James Dean and Marlon Brando) or be the pressed, neat uniform of off-duty royalty.

Here, Donna opens up her digital black book, sharing us how she's survived the last few months of lockdown (a clue: the Matches app and Netflix featured heavily) and the momentous moment she sent her first-ever email.

Holly Tucker is best known as the brilliant co-founder of and brains behind notonthehighstreet.com, a revolutionary idea that took root around her kitchen table and went on to give a platform to thousands of small creative business. Indeed, her game-changing and democratic approach was so inspiring that it even gained her recognition in The Queen's Birthday Honours when, in 2013, she was awarded an MBE.

Championing the interests of small creative businesses and enabling them to thrive remains at the heart of everything Holly does. To that end, she was appointed UK Ambassador to Creative Small Businesses in 2015 by the Prime Minister, in which capacity she represents the needs of independents to government, her steadfast aim always to give the small guys a chance against the big guys. But not content with that, in the same year she also launched Instadvice, a business advice blog offering, as its name suggests, instant advice.

Organic development is a recurring theme in Holly's life, and it was the success of this endeavour that eventually led her to set up Holly & Co, a home for artisans to connect and share, as well as offering a first aid salon of sorts for business. Cheerleading for the small business community, her website and Instagram account exist to tirelessly support others to make a living and a life doing what they love best (and if you want to mine her knowledge further, we urge you to listen to her podcast, Conversations of Inspiration, in which she chats through the highs and lows with a stellar roster of fellow entrepreneurs). A fast-thinking innovator, she believes in creativity within the entrepreneurial world. It comes as little surprise, then, that she has scooped a myriad of awards, from EY Entrepreneur of the Year to The Google Award for Women in Digital. A seasoned keynote speaker, a bestselling author (check out Shape Up Your Business and Build A Business From Your Kitchen Table), and founder of The Happy Bricks Foundation for disadvantaged children, she also happens to be a truly lovely person who is never afraid to use her own story to help others.

Here she tells us how social media has enabled her to build a whole community, and why businesses must, at all costs, avoid the temptation to bombard their customers.

Coco Conran's name is steeped in design history. Her late grandfather, Sir Terence, was the visionary designer who, through founding Habitat and The Design Museum, popularised modern European style in Britain. Her mother is the brilliant aesthete behind the eponymous homeware brand, Sophie Conran; her uncle, Jasper, is a legendary fashion designer; and her brother Felix and father Alex Wilcock are co-founders of the irresistibly gorgeous Maker & Son. It is hardly surprising then, that when it comes to a talent for creating simple designs beautifully made, the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

At just twenty, Coco is already exceptionally industrious. Having trained in pattern cutting at The London College of Fashion, these days she divides her time between working for her mother and running her own fashion label: Coco Conran. Her ethos is startlingly simple, as are the beautiful clothes she makes, all by hand. As she explains, 'My interest is traditional and technical: I focus on the form, fit and functionality when making each garment. I use complex pattern techniques to tailor well cut, stylish clothes that are immaculately detailed, unapologetically simple and comfortable to wear. My clothes are made-to-order and made to last. I am passionate about sustainable fashion, using natural fabrics to create uniquely elegant, timeless pieces that will last you a lifetime.'

Here, she tells us about her latest eBay obsession, why Instagram makes her feel right at home - and how she's on a constant binge-watch of her grandfather's favourite show: Poirot.

Tom Kerridge is the chef-patron behind the stove at the legendary Hand and Flowers gastro pub in Marlow. Having sharpened his culinary skills, first at Calcot Manor and later under chef Philip Britten at the Capital Hotel in Knightsbridge, Tom then became sous chef to Gary Rhodes, before landing his first head chef role at the renowned Bellamy's. Then, in 2005, he went it alone, opening the doors to his now-celebrated gastro pub in the pretty Thames-side town of Marlow, where he cooks up extraordinarily delicious food in a winningly informal setting; fifteen years and two Michelin stars later, the rest, as they say, is history.

Since those heady days, Tom - with his wife Beth Cullen-Kerridge - has opened a second pub, The Coach, also in Marlow, as well as The Butcher's Tap. He's a regular on our TV screens, appearing in everything gastro-minded, from Great British Menu to Saturday Kitchen, as well as presenting various BBC series, from How To Lose Weight For Good and Bake Off: Cr?me de la Cr?me to the still-running Food and Drink.

He is, for a Michelin-starred chef, decidedly simple in his tastes, deliberately eschewing many of the fripperies associated with fine dining. His best-known dish is a pig roast, with the belly cooked in a bain-marie and served with pig's trotter. This is, then, unpretentious and hearty fare, for which he is beloved: he has been named chef of the year at the AA Hospitality Awards, as well as by GQ.

Here, he tells us how one Instagram post sparked a national debate during lockdown and why he's never, ever disconnected.

At just 31, Adam Handling is the owner of the Adam Handling Restaurant Group, which includes Frog by Adam Handling, Eve Bar and Adam Handling Chelsea. But the journey to culinary stardom in the capital began many miles away amid the rural grandeur of Gleneagles in Scotland, where he was the first-ever trainee chef, before going on to become Fairmont's youngest-ever head chef, scooping Scottish Chef of the Year at just 23.

This marked the beginning of a trajectory that has been studded with such accolades. Also under Adam's star-studded belt are a slew of awards that would make a veteran twice his age proud: Scottish Chef of the Year 2015, Newcomer Restaurant of the Year in the Food and Travel Reader Awards 2015 and the British Culinary Federation's Chef of the Year 2014.

On a high following after such ecstatic recognition, he upped sticks and moved to London to go it alone with his first restaurant. A runaway success, it won him Best Restaurant of the Year in the 2017 Food & Travel Reader Awards, three AA rosettes and a Michelin Bib Gourmand - garlands that only spurred him on to go bigger and better. A year later, Adam opened another, larger restaurant on Hoxton Square: The Frog Hoxton. In, by now, signature Handling style, it immediately won him similar acclaim in the form of a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

But Adam Handling is not a man to sit still for longer than it takes to wolf down a plate of Mother (his celeriac, truffle and apple signature dish). Despite that his Hoxton establishment is also home to an events space and sustainable caf? Bean and Wheat, he found that he had some extra time on his hands. And what better way to fill it than by opening a flagship restaurant - immediately hailed as one of the finest in London - in Covent Garden? Frog by Adam Handling is, like the man himself, covered in awards.

Add to this dizzying mix the fact that he's also proprietor of a bar - Eve - as well as an outpost of his restaurant out west: Adam Handling Chelsea at the uber luxurious newly renovated Belmond Cadogan Hotel, where you can also tuck into one of the finest and most nostalgic afternoon teas under his auspices, and you have the measure of surely the busiest and most ambitious (not to mention prodigiously talented) restaurateur in the city.

But, as he tells us, this gastronomic empire all starts with good, simple and seasonal ingredients. Here he shares where he heads to online for seasonal info, which chef is saying what all the others are thinking - and why he never, ever switches off.
