The Perfect Alaskan Adventure

A few more spots we're stoked on this winter...

Nelson, British Columbia

The town of Nelson is a hip, vibrant community on the shores of Kootenay Lake (the bottom right corner of BC). In the last couple of years, the food scene in particular has really blossomed and you can find exemplary pizza and (try Marzano), ramen (Red Light Ramen) and more. Need a spot to grab coffee and breakfast before you head up to the mountain? You'll love Oso Negro's funky vibe.

In the winter, the highlight of the area is definitely Whitewater Ski Resort (just 20 minutes from town), or one of the many many many backcountry lodges or cat skiing/heli skiing operations in the area.

Silverton, Colorado

Oh Silverton. This picturesque little mining town -- population 650 -- in southern Colorado is also home to one of the raddest ski operations around (for the right type of person ????). Silverton Mountain offers guided skiing, heli drops, and zero groomed runs or beginner skiing. There's only one lift, but loads of hike-accessed terrain.

There's also all the shops you'd expect to see in an old mining town, and some great food as well. Avalanche Brewing has great pizza (I always stop here anytime I'm passing through), be sure to swing by Brown Bear Cafe for your caffeine fix, and for a spot to end your night, Handlebars, or Eureka Station.

Whitefish, Montana

A popular jumping off point for Glacier National Park in the summer, Whitefish has plenty to offer in the colder months as well. Whitefish Mountain Resort is just eight miles (or one free bus ride) from town, and at only $83 this lift ticket is a STEAL. The unique weather patterns here lead to an average of over 300 inches of snow, and often incredible inversions like the photo above.

Not a downhill skier? There's plenty of fat-biking, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and more around this corner of Montana.
