It is an understatement to say the season 2020 is not starting very well with many pilots grounded around the world. Almost all of us need to stay home, this is our best way to support people that can do something, from people working in essential supply chain to the medical staff. From all our pilot community we want to tell them a big: Thank you!

Time can be long when we are locked down so we want to introduce today a 2 minutes read and a bit of practical work on new features you can look at safely from your home. Enjoy and stay safe!

Customise your favourite sites (even from GPS coordinates)

We have improved the location settings on the Site Forecast mode. On the location name, you have now access to “configure location”.
This feature allows you:

to select your favourite locations,
reorganise them,
change their name,
delete them.

We have also created a novel way of creating a missing location, using its coordinates (eg: 49.5,16.0).

That can be really useful for hang glider, paraglider and model pilots: If you want to share a specific location forecast, you can do it, simply, by sending the webpage address. The coordinates are included in the webpage address! So, if the receiver is also logged-in, he will get direct access to the site you are checking!

We stand with the briefing masters:
Prepare your briefing and go off-line!

It is now possible to stop the forecast data to automatically reload. That can be specifically handy if you had prepared your briefing and go to a “No internet zone”. You can have all your tabs prepared; they will stay as they are. Go on your user profil page and, at the bottom, untick "Auto Reload".

News on Forecast Maps and Sat/Radar pages

We always want to help you analyse your flights and be able to find back the weather conditions for a debrief. So, you have now access to the mini archives (we store full 2 days of forecasts), when logged-in, directly on the Forecast Maps and Sat/Radar pages.

If you are using TopMeteo on your computer, you are now able to use the arrows of your keyboard to navigate on the Forecast Maps and Sat/Radar pages:

The up and down arrows allow to go from one product to the next one.
The left and right arrows allow to see the previous and next hour respectively.

To further enhance your experience, select the products you are using most as favourites so you will set up a real personal navigation fitting your needs. They will be pooled together, on top of your product list. If you don’t remember how to do that, follow this link.

Partnership with AOPAs

We are proud to announce we have a new partnership with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) in Europe. This association defends the interests of pilots and aircraft owners and promotes flight safety. We all know that a good briefing on weather conditions is essential (and mandatory) before take-off to avoid bad surprise in flight. In this context, we first worked with AOPA Netherland to make sure that all pilots are more informed about our services and can have access to our weather forecast and briefing solutions.

Since that cooperation, other national AOPA organisations approached us and we are happy to announce that all AOPA-members in Europe are now enjoying a free trial (due to Corona lockdown, the period will be extended after the flight operations will resume) and a discount is offered for this year. We invite you to visit your national AOPA website to have more information about this special deal and the work of these pilot association.

We know this season has not started well but the stay at home restrictions are slowly released and soon we will all be able o fly again. Are you ready?

New forecast regions

We are working all the time on our model, increasing the resolution of it where it is necessary. During this process we also re-evaluate the forecast regions, and we have decided to slightly change some of them. The regions covering Germany and the Alps has been re-designed to fit the flights made by our pilots and extend the overlap. The France regions also changed a bit to include Britania in a new "Nord-Ouest" region. In addition, we have created a new region "Finland".
