The Airport District makes its Boardrooms available for locally based non-profit use by reservation.

Over 50 organizations hold 400+ meetings in the District's Boardrooms each year.

TENANT WINTER OPERATIONS MEETING

Snow removal operations on Runway 11-29.

Come learn what, when and how the Truckee Tahoe Airport District Operations and Maintenance Department prepares, plans and prioritizes snow removal operations.

This meeting is intended for local aviators and airport tenants, but is open to anyone interested in winter operations at the Truckee Tahoe Airport. The meeting is also an opportunity for tenants to discuss their operational needs and how best to communicate with Airport staff.

HANGAR PRO TIPS

KTRK O&M staff wishes to remind hangar tenants of a few winter survival tips:

- Always keep a snow shovel or even a snow blower in your hangar. Airport maintenance vehicles can clear within a foot or two of the hangar door. The remaining berm up against the door is the tenant's responsibility.

- Never lower the door on top of built up snow!

- Shovel or blow excess snow out in front of your hangar away from you aircraft's wheel tracks but not in front of neighboring hangars.

- Watch out for falling roof debris from overhead icicles and snow.

- Contact O&M staff if you have any operational difficulties with the hangar door.

- Do not leave space heaters running in an unoccupied hangar.

NEW HANGAR 1 OFFICE BUILDING

Located just to the west of Hangar 1

Sierra Aero and Mountain Lion Aviation have moved into the airport's new Hangar 1 office building!  The building will also house a new flight training room. The current office space in the 60's era hangar building will be removed to make room for more indoor aircraft maintenance. Once the space is open, Sierra Aero owners Jeff and Jessica Fay expect to be able to house up to six single engine aircraft indoors!

NEW FLIGHT TRAINING SIMULATOR

Precision Flight Controls GTX AATD

The Truckee Tahoe Airport District has purchased a state-of the-art Advanced Aviation Training Device for pilots and student pilots.  The flight simulator is designed and built by Precision Flight Controls and features Garmin’s G1000 NXi avionics suite; a technology staple used in modern aircraft today.

Due to the capability and cost of the simulator, its use will be limited to pilots and student pilots who have been checked out by trained TTAD staff and/or trained CFIs, and have provided their pilot/student pilot credentials along with a signed user agreement with TTAD. 

The flight simulator will be located in the new Hangar 1 flight training room. Delivery of the new simulator is expected in late February 2020.

Ramp speed limit at KTRK is 15 mph

A few general safety reminders for pilots, hangar tenants and airport users...

The maximum speed limit on the airfield is 15 mph.  Please remember that vehicle drivers should yield to all aircraft.

Hangar tenants in rows Alpha thru Hotel are asked to use Gate 5 by the Fire Station and blast fence, not Gate 7 by the terminal building and playground. When going through the gate, make sure the gate closes behind you, and do not allow tailgaters.

Aircraft taxiing near the terminal building should use Taxilane Quebec. Do not taxi directly in front of the terminal building where there is high pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

The Ops & Maintenance crew is reminding hangar tenants that the airport's dumpsters are for aviation related use only.  Household garbage or construction debris should not be placed in airport dumpsters.

APRIL ACAT MEETING CANCELLED

KTRK Airfield Community Info Map

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the April 7, 2020 Airport Community Advisory Team (ACAT) meeting has been cancelled.

Airport staff will keep the public updated as to the next scheduled ACAT meeting. 

The six-member panel is Airport Board appointed for three year terms.  ACAT typically meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 0900 in the main terminal board room.

TTAD WELCOMES KEELY HOYT

The Truckee Tahoe Airport is welcoming Keely Hoyt to the airport staff.  Keely will be filling in for Jill McClendon while she is out on maternity leave. Jill and husband Rob had a baby girl.

Under the guidance of Hardy Bullock, Director of Aviation and Community Services, Keely will be overseeing the Airport District''s hangar rental and hangar wait-list programs during Jill''s absence.

Keely is a true-blue Truckee local, born and raised. She has been involved in aviation since her early teenage years.  Keely is working on her Private Pilot license and has worked with Sierra Aero and a flight school in Santa Monica. FLIGHT TRAINING SIMULATOR DELIVERY DELAYED

The Truckee Tahoe Airport District has purchased a state-of the-art Advanced Aviation Training Device for pilots and student pilots.  The flight simulator delivery has been delayed due to the current California "shelter in place" mandate.  We will update the public has soon as the simulator has arrived and staff has completed training.

TRUCKEE TAHOE WORKFORCE HOUSING JPA

Affordable local workforce housing a JPA goal

We are pleased to announce that the Truckee Tahoe Workforce Housing Agency (TTWHA), a Joint Powers Authority, was officially organized and formed on March 18, 2020.

Current membership includes the Tahoe Forest Hospital District, Truckee Donner Public Utility District, the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District and the Truckee Tahoe Airport District. 

Access to workforce housing has been identified as an important regional need for employee recruitment and retention.

KTRK TOWER STAFFING UPDATES

KTRK Tower

Karin Hardiman, the current KTRK tower Air Traffic Manager (ATM), has announced her retirement in May. Karin was instrumental in opening the KTRK tower in June 2017.  She helped build the District''s tower program to provide for increased air safety and to help reduce noise and annoyance.  We wish Karin all the best in her next life chapter.  She will be missed!

Controller Larry Finney will step into Karin''s roll as the new tower ATM. Larry has been with the KTRK MidWest ATC crew for the past two years.

The Airport District would also like to welcome new MidWest Air Traffic Controller John Hurst.  John is a 30-year FAA employee who worked the last 15 years with Norcal TRACON.  He is excited about his new position at KTRK, and, as an avid runner, hiker and yoga guy, John is looking forward to taking full advantage of the Tahoe lifestyle.

AIRSHOW 2020 UPDATE

Vintage WWII Aircraft

The Truckee Airshow & Family Festival is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2020. We understand this annual event is very important to many people within our community and the region that the Airport serves. Due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic, the Truckee Tahoe Airport District and its Airshow partners will consider health and safety guidelines, as well as County and State mandates, in its decision to advance this event.

The Airshow may be rescheduled or cancelled based on decisions that support the well-being of our community and those who participate in this great event. We are coordinating decisions with the Town of Truckee, Placer and Nevada Counties, as well as local and regional health officials. TRUCKEE AIRPORT RD SIDEWALK PROJECT

Sidewalk project on Truckee Airport Rd.

The Airport District is completing ~350 lineal feet of the southernmost portion of sidewalk on Truckee Airport Rd., connecting it to the intersection with CalTrans'' Highway 267.

The general contractor on the $165,000 project is Sierra Nevada Corporation. The project will be completed by the end of September.

HANGAR MOMENTARY SAFETY SWITCHES A SUCCESS

TTAD thanks hangar tenants for their participation. Since the installation of the hangar door momentary safety switches, we have had ZERO INCIDENTS.  In fact, when hangar doors have malfunctioned, from either component fatigue or operator error, the hangar door has been stopped before developing into a damaging and/or dangerous condition.  Maintenance personnel were able to fix the situation more efficiently and without being put in an unsafe position.

NEW ROOF FOR HANGAR 1

Hangar 1 gets new roof.

The Airport District''s 1965-era Hangar 1 building is getting a new roof.  The original roof had reached the end of its useful life.  Alpine Roofing is the general contractor on the ~$225,000 standing seam metal roof replacement project. The project will be completed by mid-September.

Sierra Aero''s aircraft maintenance operations have been temporarily relocated to hangar November 1.  Mountain Lion Aviation and Sierra Aero''s office operations remain in the hangar 1 satellite office building.

RUNWAY 11-29 CLOSURES

Runway 29 blast-pad reconstruction

Runway 29 blast-pad reconstruction:
Runway 11-29 CLOSED Wednesday-Friday, 5/27 thru 5/29 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. local.
Project Cost: $152,100. (FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and Truckee Tahoe Airport funds will be used to complete this project.)
Project Contractor: Meyers Earthwork, Inc.
Project Description: Reconstruction of the Runway 29 blast-pad. A runway blast-pad is a surface near the end of the runway provided to reduce the erosive effect of jet blast and prop wash on the surrounding surfaces. The area is typically covered by chevron markings.
Project Impacted Areas: Runway 11-29 will be closed during active construction. Runway 02-20 will remain open.

The flight simulator is located in the new Hangar 1 flight training room and will be available for public use by reservation starting  June 1, 2020.  Email flightschool@mountainlion.aero for reservations.

Hangar tenants in Alpha thru Hotel rows are asked to use Gate 5 by the Fire Station and blast fence. After going through the gate, make sure the gate closes behind you and do not allow tailgaters.

Aircraft taxiing near the terminal building should use Taxilane Quebec. Do not taxi directly in front of the terminal building where there is high pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

The Ops & Maintenance crew is reminding hangar tenants that the airport''s dumpsters are for aviation related use only.  Household garbage or construction debris are not be placed in airport dumpsters.

Project Start Date: Monday, May 4, 2020
Project Cost: $365,625. (FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and Truckee Tahoe Airport funds will be used to complete this project.)
Project General Contractor: Meyers Earthwork, Inc.
Project Estimated Completion Date: Friday, June 26, 2020 (8 week construction schedule)
Project Description: The project entails building an aircraft wash rack area with a runoff collection system. The wash rack will be located on the southeast side of the 100LL Self Serve fuel island.
Project Impacted Areas:  South east corner of the self-serve fuel island. Construction vehicles are operating around the airfield fire gate south of the fuel island and on Chandelle Way.

TENANT RENT DEFERRAL REQUEST

If you are a tenant, (Aviation, Commercial or Non-Profit) of the Truckee Tahoe Airport District and you, or your business has been financially impacted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, you may use the form linked below to request a rent deferral.

This form must be submitted by April 30, 2020 for rents owing between March 1, 2020 and April 1, 2020, or within 7 days of the date rent is due for rents owing after April 1, 2020.
