Trends from the Dolomites

Can biomass be exploited to create benefits for the local community?

In this TALK, Roberto Bertanzi, Commissioning & Service
Aftersales Senior Technical Advisor, shows an excellent case history where biomass is exploited to produce clean energy for the local community.

The concept has been applied in Dobbiaco, a town in the Dolomites Alps, where a Turboden biomass cogeneration plant produces 1.5 MW electric power for the grid and up to 8 MW thermal power available to the local district heating.

Increasing the use of biomass in the EU can help diversifying Europe''s energy supply, creating growth and jobs, and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

After 15 years of operation within a Feed-in Tariff the Dobbiaco ORC turbogenerator proves the reliability of the technology. The plant is now continuing the production, looking forward to delivering heat and power for many years to come, but incentives are naturally vital for this plants to keep them running also in the future.
