UCA Comments on Future Pandemic Preparedness White Paper:
On June 26, the Urgent Care Association submitted a
letter in response to a white paper issued by Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-TN). The
white paper includes recommendations on preparing for the next pandemic. In its letter, UCA pointed out that urgent care centers have been grossly overlooked in the COVID-19 federal response and health care provider relief efforts and recommended that urgent care centers be included in ongoing and future testing strategies, as well as future vaccination strategies. UCA also called for changes to EMTALA to allow for more efficient triage of non-emergency cases during pandemic-related hospital surge; continuation of telehealth flexibilities beyond the public health emergency; and removal of commercial payer barriers to delivery of vaccines in the urgent care center setting.
