Ever wondered what an online mission week would look like? Wonderfully, the CUs in Scotland decided to find out.

Eager and excited for new opportunities to reach their friends with the gospel, at the end of May they joined together to run a week of online outreach events around the theme of Hope.

While meeting through a computer screen isn’t quite the same, as the CUs have boldly carried on in evangelism, we've noticed a few curious advantages to online mission.

What does everyday life look like for a CU now?

As they've continued meeting, the CUs have been encouraged to see God’s ongoing faithfulness to them. Many are finding creative ways to share the gospel with their friends virtually.

We're so grateful that CU events weeks were able to take place before social distancing was enforced. Many came into new life during these weeks, while others drew closer and closer to Christ. But what was their wider impact on the student world?

Adapting to new circumstances

'In line with others in the charity sector and with the need to take measures to adapt to these new circumstances, UCCF is granting all field staff and many office staff an eight-week period of furlough leave (on full pay), during April and May. 

In this quieter, two-month period, student-led virtual CUs will continue and they will have access to resources that staff worked hard to make available...'

Attend Word Alive online this week!

Although Word Alive had to be cancelled, you can re-live some of the best parts of previous events this week (6-9 April). A range of talks, seminars and after hours sessions are available each day on the YouTube channel.

We have made the decision to take our annual training conference for CU leaders online. It promises to be a fantastic event with speakers including Becky Pippert, John Piper, Don Carson and Ruth Naomi Floyd.

We must acknowledge these deficiencies and seek to do more to achieve a diversity that is in step with God’s vision for His gathered people.’?

Student ministry during the Covid-19 pandemic

As universities across the country close, UCCF faces new challenges and opportunities. Our Director Richard tells us more about what this means for CU mission in his recent letter:

'Dearest Friends,

I am sure all of us wonder when this strange situation will end. At a time when our instinct is to draw together, we must remain physically distanced. It is disorienting for all.

But we draw enormous comfort from the living reality that we worship a sovereign Lord who rules the affairs of men and women...'

 

In this new season, a group of UCCF staff and Relay Workers are joining together to write guided Bible devotions for students. UCCF's Head of Creative Evangelism, Pete Dray, who spearheaded this effort, says:

'In the present circumstances, students are facing a number of challenges. Some of them are common to us all, others – like uncertainty about exams and graduation – are specific to them. We want to ensure they are able to navigate these pressures by the light of God’s Word.'

These have already been an encouragement for so many - a Bible college in Romania even asked whether it's possible to translate the studies for students there!
