The Ocean Art 2020 Underwater Photography Competition is NOW Accepting Entries! 

The Underwater Photography Guide is proud to announce that we are accepting entries for the 9th Annual Ocean Art Underwater Photo Competition!

Ocean Art is one of the most prestigious underwater photo competitions in the world. A long list of prizes valued at over $40,000 also makes it one of the best endowed, attracting amateur to pro photographers across the globe. Twelve categories ensure all photo disciplines and cameras compete fairly, while the 50+ winning images create a portfolio of the best underwater photos of the year. Winning images are shared by media outlets around the world!

Photos must be submitted before the deadline of 23:59PM PST on November 30, 2020.

Mirrorless camera technology advanced at lightspeed in 2018 and many new mirrorless camera systems are as good or better than DSLR''s. Therefore, we have merged our mirrorless categories into the "open" categories. We are excited to announce the continuation of our very successful Blackwater and Underwater Conservation categories. We can''t wait to see what our amazing community of underwater photographers produces!

The Ocean Art Safe Under the Sea Winners Are Announced! 

The prestigious Ocean Art Underwater Photo Competition, organized by the Underwater Photography Guide, has announced the winners of a special Ocean Art "Safe Under the Sea" underwater photography contest. Despite the adversity we all face today, the "Safe Under the Sea" contest has been a way to bring people from around the world together to dust off old hard drives, share the beauty of our oceans, and help aid the WHO and CDC in their fight to improve the health of the planet and its people. These photos showcase some incredible perspectives in a time when perspective is key. Although it was a smaller, mid-year competition, the selection of winning photographs has been no less powerful. The full Ocean Art 2020 competition, a separate competition from ''Safe Under the Sea'', will be announced shortly, in September, 2020 so stay tuned!

Stories Behind the Shot

These stories put you in the shoes of the photographers by taking you through their experiences, camera set ups, settings, locations, and more...

The "Safe Under the Sea" Best of Show winning image conveys a special message of hope for the future of our planet's unique biodiversity. The photo, "Releasing Hope", captured by accomplished photographer Edwar Herreno, shows marine biologist, Eduardo Espinosa, releasing a tagged hammerhead pup in order to study a unique shark nursery. It is efforts like this that will allow underwater photographers to continue to produce amazing images for years to come.  Other extraordinary winning images include raw, dramatic underwater moments with magnificent creatures, rare marine life behavior, stunning portraits of miniature worlds, curious pinnipeds, eerie shipwrecks, strange critters, and many photos that showcase the prevailing beauty of our underwater world. The judges evaluated thousands of entries from 79 countries before selecting the final set of images as Ocean Art ''Safe Under the Sea'' winners.
