Well suddenly Autumn has arrived! One minute we were basking in Summer sunshine and the next we are turning on the heating and digging out the jumpers and wellies. Some of us enjoy the change in seasons though and take pleasure in Autumn walks, shuffling through fallen leaves, bonfires, collecting conkers and seasonal fun. October sees the launch of our new short film, This is Essex, in which the good people of our county step forward to showcase the real Essex and take on (and dispel) some of the Essex stereotypes. In the film, comedian Ellie Taylor takes a wry look at the Essex accent from the much-loved TOWIE nightclub, Sugar Hut and eighth generation Mersea oysterman, Tom Haward (pictured) proves going 'out out' doesn't always mean getting out the false eyelashes and fake tan! Female rally champion, Nabila Tejpar shows us all that, surprise surprise, the county is not full of 'boy racers' after all.
The film also stars Essex treasures like Michelin starred chefs, the Galvin Brothers, Super Scientist Dr Miles Adcock, Paralympian Anne Wafula-Strike, Coggeshall Vintner, Jane Mohan, Harwich Town Crier, James Cole, Colchester pantomime dame, Antony Stuart-Hicks, Hedingham Castle owner, Demetra Lindsay and metal detectorist, Adrian Gayler.

Mayflower Trail opens in Harwich... To commemorate four-hundred years since the famous ship''s sailing, the Mayflower Trail has opened in Harwich, exploring the town''s links to the ship which transported early settlers to America in the 1600s. The 1km-long visitor trail takes in eight interpretation boards around Historic Harwich, telling the fascinating story of Harwich''s connections to the founding of modern America.
16th September 2020 marked four-hundred years since the pilgrims set sail for the New World, stepping onto the Mayflower ship at Plymouth for their voyage across the Atlantic, many of them never to return to English soil. Several crew members were from Harwich including Captain Christopher Jones, whose house still stands in Kings Head Street, Harwich, today.

Essex Wildlife Trust is taking part in a nationwide appeal to kickstart nature's recovery across 30% of land and sea by 2030.
A staggering 26% of mammals in the UK are in danger of extinction with hedgehogs, red squirrels, bats, turtle doves, cuckoo, water voles and basking sharks all being in danger.
The lack of wild places has had a disastrous effect on nature over many years so the Wildlife Trusts nationwide recently called on Government to introduce a new landscape designation for England called 'Wildbelt.'
Recovery projects will put land aside solely for nature as well as repair and link-up existing wild areas to enable wildlife to move around. Wildlife corridors will be created as well as the natural regeneration of woodland, restoration of wetlands, and rewilding. The aim is to bring nature into everywhere, including the places where people live.
