Dear Oliver,

Mustard seeds aren't much to look at. But miraculously, these tiny, fragile seeds can grow into huge plants!

And that's exactly what we want to see happen with our urban church-planting ministry. It is so exciting when we get the privilege to identify, equip and release urban leaders to plant churches.

In the last two years, we have trained over 53 church plant teams to go and evangelize, make disciples and establish a new community of the Kingdom in broken, disenfranchised communities.

Our vision is to plant 300 new, healthy urban churches by 2021. Each one will be a mustard seed - starting small, but with the potential to grow and bear abundant fruit for God's Kingdom!

Trauma Healing

Trauma is everywhere-left untreated it affects our relationships very negatively. Cycles of trauma are very real in urban communities, and many congregations are held back by their inability to move past the pain they have experienced throughout their lives.

World Impact staff have spent decades living in urban communities and working alongside leaders who need resources that will bring about healing within themselves and church members.

To help us nurture both urban leaders and their congregations towards stronger mental health, we need your gift today.

Dear Oliver,

As I've thought and prayed about how World Impact should function in the middle of a pandemic, three words came to me. The first one is faith. 2nd Timothy 1:7 states "For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control." These are the three traits that we should always display to be effective, but especially now. Regardless of what our circumstances are, the Holy Spirit is alive inside of us giving us the ability to demonstrate these virtues.

The second one is care. Historically, Christians have responded to plagues and the like by not panicking. We could learn a lot from the actions of the ancient Church. While the world around them was freaking out focusing on self-preservation (like present day hoarding toilet paper) Christians were known to go in the opposite direction. Despite what was going on, they cared for those around them. The result was the ancient Church ended up experiencing a tremendous growth spurt among survivors.

The third word is caution. Concerning World Impact hosted events, we are being vigilant in paying attention to what the local public health officials are saying and following those guidelines. We have also restricted all ministry related travel to only the most necessary of circumstances through April 30, 2020.

As this crisis unfolds, I'm single-minded that we will live out being a Christian mission organization. Our Kingdom work will not stop! We will take advantage of this crisis moment to come out stronger than ever. We've developed a task force to develop a plan on how to operate our five programs digitally. When this pandemic is over, we'll have both in-person programming and a much stronger digital presence.

Thank you for your continued giving. I know that it is not easy to do so in the middle of uneasy economic times; and I know many of you have personal connections with staff and we value that relationship. Thank you for praying for them, I know they are praying for you. Further, we've committed to praying every Wednesday for 20 minutes concerning issues related to the coronavirus starting March 25th at Noon EST. I invite you to join us from wherever you're at.

Urban Church Relief Grant

Dear Oliver,

Have you been personally affected by the pandemic? The repercussions of COVID-19 have thousands of churches wondering whether they will survive.

World Impact serves churches in impoverished neighborhoods which are more harshly affected by the emergency. Typically, they are led by bi-vocational pastors with less than 50 congregants and a budget of under $50,000.

Yet as Christians, we always have hope. Regardless of what our circumstances are, the Holy Spirit is alive and well giving us the ability to demonstrate these virtues.

During this season we've discovered two things concerning our pastoral partners. They desire to become more technically savvy and need direct aid to deal with the unexpected consequences of the crisis. World Impact is all about empowering urban leaders, so we've responded by creating a COVID-19 fund.

This fund will provide a one-year Zoom video meetings subscription along with Zoom training and coaching, and direct aid in the amount of $2,500 per church. Our initial goal is to raise $250,000 to help 100 urban churches/church plants that have participated in our church-based seminary and urban church planting programs.

Join us in our response. During the month of April, we raised $70,000 and helped 22 churches. Our goal is to raise $250,000 to help 100 urban churches/church plants that have participated in our church-based seminary and urban church planting programs by May 31st.

Many urban pastors went from meeting with their congregations to scrambling for technology when they had to close the building doors during the pandemic. Thankfully, the Church is more than a building and our urban church pastors continue to prove that!
