The EVOM3 delivers improved workflow efficiency, more stable and repeatable measurements versus traditional Trans Epithelial Electrical Resistance (TEER) meters. Providing users with vital feedback during experiment measurements, the EVOM3's large screen offers a range of informational views. The new graphical displays for trend analysis and measurement values helps scientists deliver simple, step-wise methodology during experimental measurements. The touch screen interface provides users an intuitive, easy-to-use menu for configuration.
Eliminating the need to log data by hand, the EVOM3 writes the resistance or voltage information to a USB drive in CSV format for easy transfer to spreadsheets and data analysis programs. When used with the foot switch it enables hands-free recording of measurements.

The significance of transepithelial/endothelial electrical resistance (TEER) measurement in lung in vitro models

Epithelial and endothelial cells are known for their barrier function like selective permeability. Lung tissue is comprised of epithelial cellular layers, residing adjacent to endothelial layers and allows exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between lung and blood. Currently, the biomedical research community's major focus area is to understand the details of the infection caused by this novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) or by similar viruses. This new virus can disrupt the lung's normal cleaning ability to get rid of foreign particles in the lung, and the selective permeability or barrier function of the lung may become severely impaired. The adverse physiological effect may be sustained once the inflammatory cascade is initiated.

Researchers in collaboration with clinicians are trying to develop vaccines and drugs to prevent or treat the 2019-nCoV infection. Mammalian cell culture models are useful for basic understanding of the effect of viral infection on epithelial cells of the lung and endothelial cells of adjacent blood vessels or capillaries. Measurement of TEER can be useful in testing cytotoxicity of drugs and vaccines in lung epithelial tissues, endothelial tissues and epithelial-endothelial dual cell layer models. Testing the effectiveness of a therapeutic drug or agent in a cell culture model can also provide some meaningful information.

Precision Microinjector 
with internal pressure source 

Designed to simplify intracellular injection, the  MICRO-ePUMP uses carefully regulated internal pressure source for your microinjection needs. (There is no need for an external air supply.) Injected volumes range from picoliters to nanoliters. The touchscreen with simplified user interface and one button controller makes it easy for users to change parameters according to the microinjection application. Pressure injection is an especially useful alternative to electroionophoresis, since it does not mandate the use of charged ions. The MICRO-ePUMP allows you to store up to three programs containing different parameters in the device memory for easy recall.

WPI's MICRO-ePORET Pinpoint Cell Penetrator technology is embedded inside the MICRO-ePUMP to deliver an extremely localized voltage signal to a targeted injection site, which facilitates penetration and injection with minimal trauma, increasing the survival rate. Nitric oxide (NO) is an essential signaling molecule and is known to play a significant role in a multitude of physiological systems including the central nervous system (CNS), the cardiovascular system, the gastrointestinal tract, the immune system, and the renal system. However, being highly reactive, detection and quantification of NO is very difficult. It requires a sensor that is sensitive, selective to NO, and easy to calibrate.

Collect periodic samples and behavioral data simultaneously

The CardioPhysT ECG is a bioamplifier that is designed to amplify the sum of electrical potentials from cardiac muscle, and other extracellular signals. The signal produced from cardiac recordings tracks the depolarization and repolarization of the cardiomyocytes as they contract in succession to pump blood through the heart. The amplifier is powered by two 9V batteries to minimize electrical noise, which could interfere with or mask the voltage signal from the heart.

Measurement of TEER can be useful in testing cytotoxicity of drugs and vaccines in lung epithelial tissues, endothelial tissues and epithelial-endothelial dual cell layer models. Testing the effectiveness of a therapeutic drug or agent in a cell culture model can also provide some meaningful information. The EVOM2T provides quick and easy evaluation of cellular confluence (for example, monolayer health).

EZ Anesthesia is the system of choice for anesthetizing small animals, and it comes with a variety of choices. The safety of laboratory personnel is of primary importance. So, WPI''s anesthesia system offers a choice of three breathing devices, all with a patented valve that mitigates the gas flow to the snugly-fitted nosecone. A highly sensitive valve regulated by the animal's breathing works with the nosecone to ensure non-rebreathing efficiency and allows safe anesthesia for up to 12 hours.
