Hi Folks,

We have not forgotten you. We are currently reviewing a "CERT Basic Training" hybrid class being offered by Utah University of Health and sanctioned by FEMA.

It is the SAME CERT Basic Training class we do here in Yuma with the exception of the HYBRID part. The hybrid part of the class is online study of the CERT Basic Training manual. This will include

approx. 12 hours of online classes and testing.

Then there is 16 hours of in-person "hands on" training. As part of this 16 hours is a "hands on" drill to enhance your newly learned skills.

As I stated, this hybrid approach is approved by FEMA, so we are in the process of evaluating how we could do it here in Yuma.

Hi Folks,

Nothing new on the class date. Still waiting for "virus" stabilization. However, the Basic CERT training material is meant to be of use to you, your family, friends and neighbors, in the time of an extreme emergency.

Now that the wildfire season is upon us, I have a question for you to ponder.

After seeing all of the resources assigned to a large wildfire, did you ever wonder how you could keep track of all of the equipment and personnel?

The Incident Command System is used from the local fire and emergency services up to and including all of the major emergency operations nationwide.

There are many independent study classes offered (FREE) by FEMA. These classes will give you insight and additional knowledge in how to handle different emergency situations.

I may have mentioned, if you choose to become a TEAM member, some of these classes are required, i.e. IS-100, IS-200, IS-700 and IS-800. And right off the top of my head, another good one is the "Active Shooter" class.

If you are interested, just follow the instructions on the web site noted below. One of the requirements is, you'll need a FEMA ID number.

A new month and still in a "holding Pattern". Just wanted you to know we haven't forgotten you.

A little update;

Prior to the "Stay at Home" order, CERT member delivered PPE to Emergency Responder departments.

Also, next deliveries were for clinics and hospital.

While in the "Stay At Home" mode, we monitored calls from three different state departments. This was done while the Emergency Manager was meeting almost daily with city, county, state and tribal officials.

We will keep you apprised of future developments.

Hi Folks,

First of all, I hope you are staying safe and getting ready for the Holidays.

All of the instructors for this class have finished the same online class you will be taking.

We will be scheduling a ZOOM conference call (I guess that's what it's called) the second week of Jan.

At that time we will lay out the program.

The suggested time frame for the program is covering one of eight units per week. We will have the instructor assigned that unit be available if you have questions going through the unit.

We expect to start you on the program Jan. 18th, 2021 and finish on or about Mar. 12th.

At that time we can coordinate with you a time for the practical hands on classes. The hands on portion is approx. 16 hours.

The course will require you to have internet access for the online classes. We may be able to assist anyone that may need assistance with the internet.

So, I would really appreciate a commitment by the first week of January. That gives us time to arrange the facilities, props, etc.

We are still planning for a January Class Kick Off. As in a disaster, we must adapt, adopt and engage.

We are planning a ZOOM meeting with all of you that commit to the training. (This will be ALL of our first time online course setting.)
